Introduction:
Who says cooking has to be difficult? This fun and easy recipe will have you and your family
eating like kings in about an hour. King Ranch Chicken is a popular Tex-Mex casserole. Its
name comes from King Ranch, one of the largest ranches in the world, though it is unclear if the
recipe actually originated from the ranch. It's a cheesy, sometimes spicy, delicious southern
delight that you and your family are sure to love!
Ingredients
To make King Ranch Chicken, you will need to buy the right ingredients. The ingredients are:
• 1 bag of Tyson Grilled & Ready Fully Cooked Frozen Oven Roasted Diced Chicken
breast, found in the grocery store freezer section.
• 1 can of ROTEL original Diced tomatoes and green chilies
• 1 bag of corn tortilla chips, any brand will do.
• 1 can of Campbell's cream of mushroom soup
• 1 block (10 oz.) of Cracker Barrel extra sharp cheddar cheese.
• You'll need a bowl and spoon for mixing ingredients...
• ...a small knife for cutting the cheese...
• ...a 9X13 inch casserole dish...
• ...and a working oven.
PreCooking Preparations:
Intro:
Before you begin cooking, there are a few things you must do. First, pre-heat the oven to 350
degrees Fahrenheit (176 degrees C).
Soup/ROTEL Mixture:
To make the ROTEL mixture, which will add some spice to your meal, you will need to combine
the entire can of ROTEL tomatoes and the entire can of Campbell's cream of mushroom soup
into the bowl. Use the spoon to mix the ingredients. Once mixed, set the mixture aside.
Cheese preparation:
To prepare the cheese, you must slice the block into smaller chunks. Using a small knife, cut
the entire block of cheddar cheese into thin strips, approximately 1/4 to 1/8 inches thick. Once
the entire block is sliced, set the cheese slices aside.

Week 8: Activity 1- Project 4 Auditory Instruction
Cooking Directions:
Intro: Now that everything is prepared, we're ready to make our dish! First, make sure that the
oven is done preheating to 350 degrees.
Step 1: 1st Layer of Chips:
For the first step, place a layer of chips at the bottom of the casserole dish.
Step 2: 1st Layer of Cheese
Next, layer 1/3 of the sliced cheese strips across the chips. We want to save the majority of the
cheese for the top layer!
Step 3: Chicken
For the next layer, empty the contents of the Tysons frozen chicken breasts bag on top of the
cheese and chips. Spread the chicken out evenly in the casserole dish.
Step 4: Cream Mixture
Next, pour the entire cream of mushroom/ROTEL tomatoes mixture on top of the chicken. Use
the spoon to spread the mixture out evenly across the chicken in the casserole dish.
Step 5: 2nd Layer of Chips
Next, layer more chips on top of the chicken and soup/tomato mixture.
Step 6: 2nd Layer of Cheese
Finally, layer the remainder of the cheese strips across the top of your chips.
Step 7: Cooking
Now, place the dish into the pre-heated oven for 30-40 minutes. You'll know the dish is cooked
by looking at the melted cheese though the bottom of the casserole dish.
Step 8: Enjoy!
The last step is to serve and enjoy! You've created an easy, inexpensive, and satisfying meal
that can feed your whole family!

Making Kickin’ King Ranch Chicken
Topic
This lesson will teach novices with little to no knowledge of cooking how to make
King Ranch Chicken, a simple meal with a lot of flavor that can feed an entire
family.
Theory
To teach this topic, the lesson will follow the constructivist learning theory. Since
good cooking is a matter of personal tastes, the students will gain the most
knowledge from practicing the recipe, tasting it, and then making modifications as
needed. The students will also discuss their results and modifications with each
other, reflecting on their experiences and sharing their observations. Doing this
will help build a shared understanding of the processes involved in making this
dish, as well as help them better understand the concepts.
Problem
In this country, it’s become far too easy to grab a burger at a drive-through or
order pizza. Cooking a quality meal is becoming a lost art. Many college
students go through their entire college career eating ramen noodles and peanut
butter and jelly sandwiches. These people are lacking the basic knowledge
needed to make quality food, which includes knowing some simple recipes and
the steps involved to make them.
Audience
The audience is people who have no skill cooking meals in the oven, people that
are intimidated by large recipes, or people that are looking for a meal that can
feed larger groups.
Purpose
This instruction is intended to teach learners a simple dish that can feed a group
of people or be used to feed the learner for several meals. After cooking the
dish, the learner will reflect on his/her experiences. The lessons used during this
instruction will teach the learner some basic concepts of cooking that the learner
can apply to future meals.
Format
The learner will learn how to create the dish by following the steps as they are
heard on the recipe PDF file. The recipe PDF file will have several clickable
audio links corresponding to different steps in the recipe. The student will be
able to click on the next icon when ready or repeat the previous track if
necessary. The student will listen to the recipe PDF file via cell phone, tablet, or
laptop.
