A NOTE ABOUT DYNAMOS
We note that a lot of people give dynamos bad press: the red light on the dash is always coming on, the charging
relay seems to be malfunctioning etc., etc. Actually, we quite like dynamos. They're fundamentally simple and
understandable, even for the non-expert, and can give years of trouble-free motoring, provided the following is grasped:
1.) After 30+ years they all need overhauling - and a quick check through is not enough.
2.) Most people that overhaul them just do the minimum, which inevitably leads to red light problems again very soon.
3.) To do a decent overhaul, the field windings have got to be re-covered with new textile tape, then lacquered.
(Try to avoid fixing broken tape windings with temporary solutions - we've seen chewing-gum used, we've even
had a Bosch agent in London stick bits of cardboard behind one of the windings to "stop" the shorting-out problem)
4.) Most rotors (armatures) can be tested and brought up to a good standard by smoothing off the surface of the
commutator, so no need for the single most expensive item to be renewed. Bearings and brushes are cheap.
5.) The hole on the front fixing bracket always becomes oval over time. This can be drilled out to an oversize and a
metal bush then pressed in to reinstate the old bolt hole. A machine shop should be able to carry out this work for you.
6.) Always replace (or at least have tested) the charging relay when rebuilding the dynamo: these things work in unison.

REAR AXLE PARTS - EXPLANATION
Two types of axle were fitted on PVs och Duetts:

ENV, and Spicer.
ENV axles are recognisable by the fact that the differential carrier is detachable forwards from the axle casing :
also, viewed from behind the car one can see that there is no bolted-on inspection cover (as there is on the
Spicer axle). From an historical perspective it can be said that the ENV axle is older in its construction, though
both ENV and Spicer axles were fitted side by side over a long period of time up to about 1961. After that date
ENV axles were only fitted on some Amazons (up to approx. 1965).
Pinion oil seals & Repair sleeves:
The oil seals at the front of the pinion shafts on ENV and Spicer axles are different. On the ENV it has part
number 88391, which has a sealing surface made of leather: on the Spicer axle it was originally called 80507,
which was also of leather, but which was later replaced by 942905, which has a more modern sealing surface
of rubber. (942905 has more recently been replaced at Volvo by part number 9143317, which is essentially the
same seal but which has a sealing surface made of a synthetic rubber material called viton which above all can
withstand higher operating temperatures than 942905.) We have all types in stock, incl. ENV genuine & repro.
Occasionally that part of the surface of the pinion that has been in contact with the oil seal can become worn.
Where this has happened we recommend fitting a repair sleeve (made of very thin stainless steel) over the
pinion shaft: see the next page for prices. A detachable section for fitting of the sleeve is included.
Wheel bearings and drive shaft oil seals:
Below we have listed the various combinations of drive shaft, pinion oil seals, drive shaft oil seals, wheel
bearings and brake drum nuts used on PVs and Duetts. As an example look at the PV 444 1957 with ENV axle:
the drive shaft is called 88706, pinion oil seal is 88391, drive shaft oil seal is 114046, wheel bearing 19577
and brake drum nut is called 153031. On the next page are prices for the various parts still stocked, as well
as some complete wheel bearing kits.

HOW TO ORDER - MOST IMPORTANT!
Dear Customer
Using correct part numbers when ordering
As you can see from the catalogue now on your screen or in your hand, we at CVI
have gone to a lot of trouble to produce a catalogue which will enable you to identify
the parts you want as easily as possible.
However, when you come to place an order (which we prefer to be made via our online Order Form) we cannot stress enough how important it is that you give us the
correct part number for the item you want.
As you may have noticed, we sometimes offer you a choice between a genuine part
and a reproduced item (or pattern part as they are sometimes referred to). The
way we distinguish between these is to put an R or an (R) at the end of the part
number, or even a dash and then a 1. Thus, a diaphragm for a Zenith-Stromberg
carburettor has the part number 237385 for the genuine article, but part number
237385-R for the repro item. Note the difference in price on these: 237385 costs
SEK 55, whilst 237385-R costs a mere SEK 15.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you give us the correct number for the item
you want! We cannot return items where you have given us the incorrect number.
Minimum order value
Please note that we have a minimum order value of SEK 1600 (excluding VAT & freight).
It has become necessary for us to introduce this rule in order to allow for as efficient
handling of incoming orders as possible - there is a lot of ancillary paperwork that
is connected with each order. Of course, if you come and buy from us over the counter
there is no minimum limit imposed.
