Polish Cars
Just a few thousand vehicles
had been registered in
Poland in 1914.
In 1918, soon after World
War I ended, Poland finally
regained its independence
after decades of occupation.
The dream of making Polish
automobiles became a
reality in 1927, when a small
series CWS of 25 T1s
was produced.
NEXT
CWS and As 1928
A few other models appeared soon.
CWS MODEL T8
CWS automobiles, the original Polish
automobiles made in numbers, were no
longer being made after 1931.
NEXT
POLSKI FIAT 508 - 1932
Since 1932 co-operation with
Fiat started.
The basic model manufactured
in Poland was Fiat 508 Balilla, a
reliable and economical family
car.
This quite cheap car „brought
the wheels" to many of the
people, who could only dream
about having of an automobile
before.
Polski Fiat production was
finished by the World War II
(1939).
NEXT
WARSZAWA M20 - 1951
By 1951 the FSO car factory was built and the first Pobieda
(Russian construction), renamed Warszawa (Polish for
Warsaw) was produced.
At first the M20 was being constructed of parts sourced from
the Soviet Union, but by 1956 it was completely of Polish
content.
NEXT
SYRENA - 1958
In 1953 FSO designed a new, inexpensive and suitable
for the general public automobile, a sort of people's
car. Many components from the Warszawa were used
to minimize costs.
In 1958 the first true production Syrena, the 101, began
rolling off the assembly line
NEXT
FIAT 125p - 1967
In 1965 a deal with FIAT was signed which
gave FSO a license to not only to produce the
Fiat 125 but also to use its components for
developing new versions of it or in the
construction of other automobiles. The first
Polski (Polish) Fiat 125p, as it was known,
rolled off the assembly line in 1967 (the
same year that Italian 125 production
ceased).
NEXT
FIAT 126p - 1972
Polski Fiat 126p (literally in
English: Polish Fiat 126p)
was produced in Poland
between 1973 and 2000
In Poland it is called
Maluch, which literally
means 'a little kid' or
'something small'.
Despite it was a very small
city car, for many years the
Fiat 126 was the most popular
car bought in Poland because
of its friendly price.
NEXT
POLONEZ - 1978
Around the late seventies FSO,
with some assistance of
specialists from FIAT, began
working on their next model.
The Polonez, a more modern
automobile , based on many
components from the Fiat 125p,
entered production in 1978 and
its latest incarnation is still
rolling off the assembly line
today.

Prototypes
Polish designers tried hard to create new Polish models of
cars. Some prototypes were constructed. Unfortunately,
they have never been produced.
These are some of them. Aren’t they beautiful?

1934 and 1939.

Sokół 600 RT tourist

associated with the Polish

Polish Army.

PM 3636-1
- „Beautiful Helen” 1936
The design was ready in 1936 and the following year the first two
prototypes were built. One of them (Pm36-1) had aerodynamic fairing
designed by aerospace scientists from the Warsaw University of
Technology, the other had a standard look. The idea was to test both
engines in parallel to compare top speed, acceleration, coal and water
consumption etc. The Pm36-1 won a gold medal at the International
Exposition of Art and Technology in Paris- 1937

Other private factories came into being soon.

bicycles called „Lucznik”. Up to 5000 bicycles monthly
were produced while the other private factories
