Fish Creek is a getaway to remember.
Only in Fish Creek can you explore the inspiring coastline of
Lake Michigan, its unique blend of striking scenic beauty, its
endless outdoor recreational opportunities and its celebrated
heritage — and make it all your own.
The rugged beauty of northern Wisconsin and the fascinating
natural wonderment of the entire Door County peninsula
give visitors an exciting and inspiring array of outdoor
adventures. Magnificent fields, rock lined shores and serene
forests always provide a beautiful backdrop for vacation,
relaxation and fun.
Throughout the village of Fish Creek, you’ll get a unique look
into Door County’s rich history and an exciting opportunity
to experience a settlers’ community that has thrived with
heritage and a touch of today’s modern-day lifestyle.
The Door County region offers an abundance of clear-water
sporting entertainment with fishing and sailing that beckons
sporting enthusiasts from all over the country. In the village,
Fish Creek offers the unique shops, historical sites, museums
and some of the best eateries in Door County.
So, come to Fish Creek to explore the peninsula. Hike the
forest. Walk the village. Taste the county’s fruitful bounty or
just take in the majestic Lake Michigan. Whatever you choose,
the sense of beauty and historic serenity you discover will stay
with you forever.
But, just a word of warning: if you visit for a weekend, you’ll be
back for a lifetime.

History
Early Fish Creek settlers recognized the varied opportunities the Door
peninsula offered and took advantage of the prime water access and
inland bounty of trees. One of the earliest settlers to the area, Asa
Thorp, built a simple log cabin on Green Bay’s shoreline, purchased
land, established a lumbering business, constructed a pier on the
waterfront & built the second summer tourist hotel in Wisconsin. By the
turn of the 20th century, visitors from Chicago, St. Louis & Milwaukee
“discovered” the virtues of Door County. Dr. Hermann Welcker’s resort,
organized in the tradition of the European spa, offered a regimen of
food, rest & healthy meals. Within a few years the resort’s guests were
building homes on Cottage Row. Fish Creek was established in 1857.
For information on self-guided and guided walking tours on the history
of Fish Creek, visit the Noble House Museum in the southeast corner of
the main intersection in downtown Fish Creek. 920-868-2091.

Art Experiences
Whether you’re looking for age old antiquities or you’re searching
for something to remember forever, Fish Creek has the galleries
and artisan communities for you to experience.
With premier art galleries, the areas oldest professional resident
theatre, and an auditorium that embraces the performing arts,
Fish Creek shares its artistic pride with hands-on art experiences
and theaters that make every visit unique.
Home to Peninsula State Park
Any visit to Fish Creek isn’t without an intrinsic connection to
nature. One of the simple joys of life in Door County is returning
to what our settlers had found so beautiful and inspiring along
the shores of Lake Michigan.
With its unspoiled and authentic character, you’ll rejuvenate your
spirit with just one visit to the forest of Peninsula State Park. With
miles of Green Bay shoreline, plentiful campgrounds, scenic bike
paths and a nature center that offers an education in natural
history, you’re invited to discover the natural gems of Peninsula
State Park.
The Evenings
There’s something magical about an evening in Fish Creek. In the
spring, the fresh air and flowers are a sensory experience not to be
missed. In the summer, take in the sounds of the evening concerts
or enjoy a crackling fire while camping.
As dusk falls on Fish Creek, you can experience it all. Extend the
long summer days after sunset and well into the autumn evenings
in the village of Fish Creek, where the shops stay open later than
other towns on the peninsula. Relax and get a cup of tea, or perk up
with a steaming cup of coffee, find a bite to eat or just make a new
memory after the sun has set across the lake.
Whatever your style, be it a candlelight dinner at a cozy bed &
breakfast or an indulgent night in downtown Fish Creek, you’ll find
something to fits your mood and your budget.

Beaches & Parks
Mother Nature was generous to Fish Creek,
providing the village & surrounding countryside with
breathtaking scenery. Town fathers with their eyes on
the future have preserved the soaring bluffs & rocky
shores, inviting beaches, quaint harbors & tucked-away
pockets for parks. Sports enthusiasts need only wander
up the road to Peninsula Sate Park where opportunities
for adventure abound.
Peninsula State Park
The gateway to this 3.776-acre park is in downtown Fish Creek.
The park is noted for the 150-foot rocky bluffs that drop off into
the shores of Green Bay. Peninsula State Park is the most popular
camping destination in Wisconsin & boasts 468 campsites. Visitors
can picnic, hike, bike, boat, fish, golf, swim, cross country ski, sled,
snowshoe & snowmobile. Camping, nature programs & sightseeing
available year-round.
Clark Park – 1.16 acre park adjacent to the Fish Creek dock. Public
restrooms are available at the dockhouse & across the street from the park in
the Gibraltar Town Hall. The grassy square has benches in the sun & shade for
visitors to relax & watch the boats in the harbor. Fishing is allowed at the Fish
Creek Municipal Dock. (see map #72)
Fish Creek Park – 27-acre park with walking trails through woods and
along the creek that gave Fish Creek it's name. Relax in the gazebo and watch the
world go by. Access on Hwy. 42 across from Peninsula State Park entrance.

is an adventurous find as you must travel by boat to the 2834-acre Chambers
