4 More than 40,000 booklovers attended the Brooklyn Book Festival last year, drawn to a diverse lineup of panelists
including journalist, novelist, essayist, editor, educator and Brooklyn native Pete Hamill, center; as well as
Bronwen Hruska, publisher of Solo Press, right.
T
he word is in! Brooklyn transforms into ‘Booklyn,’ New York’s largest book festival—
and America’s third largest—with a full week of literary events beginning Monday,
September 16th, and culminating on Sunday, September 22nd, with more than 250
authors making appearances.
From debut novelists to award-winning icons, from history to mystery, from picture books to
poetry, this year’s festival has something for booklovers of all genres.
Literary heavyweights include Jonathan Ames, Nicholson Baker, Edwidge
Danticat, Pete Hamill, Jamaica Kincaid, Sam Lipsyte, James McBride, Claire
Messud, Colum McCann, Sharon Olds, George Packer, Karen Russell,
Sapphire, Art Spiegelman, Meg Wolitzer and Tom Wolfe.
Lois Lowry, beloved children’s book author, will be honored with this year’s
Best of Brooklyn (BoBi) literary award at Sunday’s festival. Before penning
countless classics like “The Giver” and “Number the Stars,” Lowry spent many
years in Brooklyn.
