America’s Premier BIG CAT REFUGE GROUP TOURS Local School Group Visiting the ‘Big Cats’ Visit the refuge and see the animals in person! Your class or group would LOVE a guided tour of Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge! Our tours are great for field trips, scout groups, family reunions, birthday parties, civic groups…or any combination of group event! Plan a morning at TCWR to watch our tigers, lions, leopards, cougars, bobcats, black bears, and grizzly bear run, play, eat, and nap in their large, naturalistic habitats! You’ll learn about the history of the Refuge, facts about our animals and their individual stories, and how we strive to realize our mission of providing lifelong, compassionate care for all of our rescued animals! Contact [email protected] for more information about our many education opportunities. Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge 239 Turpentine Creek Lane Eureka Springs, AR. 72632 479-253-5992 office 479-253-5841 refuge www.turpentinecreek.org Public Education & Outreach Education is one of the most important things we do at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge! By educating the general public, school children and our visitors, we hope to spread awareness about the exotic pet trade and the struggles these animals face in the wild. OUTREACH PROGRAMS AT THE REFUGE Keeper Talk Featuring BamBam the Grizzly Bear We welcome the general public to TCWR every day of the year – except for Christmas – at 9 a.m. to learn about our animal ambassadors! The Refuge features a self-guided area, as well as guided tours starting at 10 a.m. every day. Our Education Stations contain items that explain our mission, including a variety of ‘touch and feel’ and visual displays, chewed up tiger toys, and individual stories and facts pertaining to our animals. TCWR biologists, zoologists and interns also conduct Keeper Talks on weekends and holidays, offering 20-minute, in-depth reviews of specific topics at the Refuge. And our volunteer docents are always available to help with any questions you might have while visiting! Classroom Learning Booth Learning Our Classroom Learning option is a great, offsite way for your students to learn fun facts about the various animal species that call our Refuge “home”. We’ll offer insight to your class about the issues these animals face in captivity and in the wild, as well as educate them on how our TCWR staff and interns care for over 120 animals on a daily basis! Do you want to add a fun and uniquely educational twist to your next conference, fair, festival or concert? Consider TCWR’s Booth Learning option! We’ll intrigue your visitors and spread awareness of our mission using photos, educational material, and props – including real shed fur and whiskers, chewed toys, and plaster paw prints! During Classroom Learning, we use photos, videos, and props – including real fur, whiskers, chewed toys and plaster paw prints – as educational aids. We can also specialize each program specifically for your size of classroom and/or age group! Adult Learning Learning isn’t just for kids though; adults can get in on the action, too! TCWR provides our Adult Learning option to many local organizations such as rotary clubs, as well as national venues such as the world-renowned Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, and the historic Walmart Museum! The history of TCWR and our awe-inspiring “big cat” stories are sure to please any group, so we would be happy to speak at your next meeting or social event! Because of our public outreach programs, TCWR has appeared – and continues to appear regularly – on a variety of local TV stations; KPOM (NBC 14) and KNWA (TV 5) in Fort Smith, AR; KHBS/KHOG (40/29 TV) and KNWA (Fox 24 News) in Fayetteville, AR; KOLR 10 and KY3 in Springfield, MO; and KSN-TV 16 and KODE 12-TV in Joplin, MO just to name a few. TCWR also gained exposure on Discovery Channel’s “Wild Animal Repo,” as TV crews documented and aired a dangerous but well-planned rescue operation in Texas! In addition to the Discovery Channel, we have appeared on and/or provided video segments to Good Morning Arkansas and Daybreak in Arkansas, Animal Planet, Real TV, ESPN, and the Conan O’Brien show in New York City! The Refuge and our animal ambassadors have also been photographed by Canon sponsored photographer, George Lepp, and National Geographic’s Daniel Cox on a number of projects!
