The procedure for creating a strategy Local Action Group North Jutland Start up – municipality cooperation • Department of food and business • Local politicians • Employees in administrations in the 5 municipalities Local Action Group North Jutland Creating local interest • • • • • • Advertisement in local newspapers Personal contacts Spreading the word Experience with similar funds for the agriculture section EU funding in earlier years (Leader plus) A tradition in our communities to work within these volunteer projects and groups Local Action Group North Jutland Local engagement • A local meeting with municipality employees • An option to discuss which kind of projects we thought possible to fulfil in our area • Cooperation to get the people we wanted elected into the board representing our municipality Local Action Group North Jutland Who to elect • • • • • Criteria we found important in selecting our participants in the board Local fishermen to be represented Tourism Inland waters Equal number of citizens from each of the five municipalities Local Action Group North Jutland The board • • • • 15 citizens – one is the president 5 local politicians – one representing each municipality 1 politician representing the Region of northern Denmark A total of 21 members of the board of FiskeriLAG Nord Local Action Group North Jutland Local Action Group North Jutland The board • • • • Held meetings to discuss the strategy Discussed issues and themes to have most weight in our work Groups that presented their ideas for each other The base for which we wanted to describe our strategy Local Action Group North Jutland We ended up with four focus areas - Fishing culture / fishing as a business - Tourism - Nature - Citizens Local Action Group North Jutland Next step in creating the strategy • In yet a session of group work, we found words to describe, more concrete in which ways we want or wish to support projects in order to initiate developing projects covering each of the four issues • Important to think through which projects you expect from your local community Local Action Group North Jutland Bringing your thoughts home • • • • We hired a consultant to proceed with meetings in each of the 5 municipalities All input were set up in issues by the consultant Discussed again in a board meeting Afterwards approved our strategy Local Action Group North Jutland Getting the strategy approved • • • • The strategy has been approved in all 5 local municipalities Approved by regional officials Approved by department of food and business Now we were ready to hire on a consultant to assist in developing and describing various projects Local Action Group North Jutland Concrete examples for fishing culture / fishing as a business • • • Efforts to make the fishing industry more attractive also for young people Developing new fishing forms and activities at harbors and coasts Exposing the fishing culture and heritage Local Action Group North Jutland Concrete examples for tourism • • • • • • Developing fish related tourism in coastal areas Exposing cultural heritage developing authentic experiences Activities stretching the tourist season Reestablishing fish landing places on the coast Exposing old boatbuilding traditions Local Action Group North Jutland Concrete examples for Nature • • • • Redevelop old trails to access nature Establish activities in the nature Activities with protection of nature and cultural heritage Promote active use of nature Local Action Group North Jutland Concrete examples of population • Activities that attracts establishing of public office • New efforts to support social, cultural and educational development • Supporting networking on shore for fishers family members Local Action Group North Jutland Examples of project applications and work supported by the LAG Local Action Group North Jutland •Total budget per year = 270.000 Euro In 2008: •18 applications •10 supported Local Action Group North Jutland PROJECT: Renovation of the old Fishing houses in the small fishing village Klitmøller. It is the place where locale people meet, store fishing gear etc. It is also a famous tourist spot. LAG support: 25.000 Euro Local Action Group North Jutland Total budget: 43.000 Euro Local Action Group North Jutland Local Action Group North Jutland PROJECT: Renovation of the old inshore Fishing boat ”Marie”. Located in the fishing village of Løkken. There are very few Inshore fishing boats left in Denmark. A piece of culture and a famous tourist spot. Local Action Group North Jutland LAG support: 28.000 Euro Total budget: 47.000 Euro PROJECT: A local fisherman wants to establise a plant for storing fish and shellfish, so they can be graded the same size and stored until the price is optimal. Local Action Group North Jutland LAG support: 35.000 Euro Total budget: 115.000 Euro PROJECT: Strandby marina wants to strengthen the maritime leisure-time offers to the youth. The purpose is to recrute young people to the maritime sector. They want to co-operate with local schools and education centers. LAG support. 49.000 Euro Total Budget: 122.000 Euro Local Action Group North Jutland PROJECT: Information equipment at the beaches that informs the guests about the local nature, culture, coast villages, fishing etc. The equipment will be touch screens and information boards. LAG support: 40.000 Euro Total budget: 150.000 Euro Local Action Group North Jutland The small habour Amtoft wants to establise a new jetty and deepen the habour so lager woodships can enter the habour. It will bring more activity at the harbour and strengthen the local tourist industri. Projekt budget: 83.000 Euro Local Action Group North Jutland Applied the LAG: 40.000 Euro The one man owned company ”North Sea Fishing” which in the summer time sails with anglers, wants to enlage the season to an all year round business.The autorities require, that the fishing boat meets certain conditions. Projekt budget: 59.000 Euro Applied the 23.000 Euro Local Action GroupLAG: North Jutland The company Skagen Food wants to make at network with four local shrimp-fishingboats and start selling gourmet shrimps to exclusive food stores. The company already have succes with selling fish to the consumers by the internet. Projekt budget: 57.000 Euro Local Action Groupthe North Jutland Applied LAG: 23.000 Euro The small habour Thissinghuse wants to improve the local habour with at jetty, handicap facilities, electricity, light and water. The purpose is to improve the tourist industri. Projekt budget: 115.000 Euro Applied the LAG: 58.000 Euro Local Action Group North Jutland A group of people from Lønstrup wants to finish the renovation of the the lifeboat station. The roof needs to be replaced. The lifeboat station has a longe story and means a lot to the local people and the culture. Today the lifeboat station is a local museum and a tourist spot. Projekt budget: 41.000 Euro Applied the LAG: 20.000 Euro Local Action Group North Jutland A local entrepreneur want to establish a fish shop and sea food restaurant as well as a production line under the same roof.
