Welcome from Bar 5
fter 48 years in the Simmental business it is surely
with regret that we are dispersing the Bar 5 herd that
we own at this time. The Nolan family got involved in
Bar 5 in 1991 so it has been 26 years for us, previous to
that we owned Harkaway where we bought our first Simmentals
in 1979, so that is 38 years ago. My, how time flies when you
are having fun. I think during the time we owned Bar 5 we did
many things with the cattle including showing, many winners
at Agribition, Toronto Royal, Brandon Royal and many other
smaller shows in many parts of Canada. For many years we
took pens of bulls to Denver where we sometimes ended up lst
and 2nd in the Simmental pens and Grand and Reserve overall
breeds. More recently we helped establish a Fullblood Show in
Louisville, Kentucky by taking a large string of cattle there. We
have been very involved in Simmental Affairs where Carla and
Ron both served on the Ontario Simmental board of Directors
and both served as President. Ron also served on the Canadian
Simmental Association, both as a Director and President as
well as the Past President of the Fleckvieh Fullblood Simmental
Federation (FFSF). Presently he serves as a director for the
Friends of the Canadian Simmental Foundation.
So after all these years of involvement in the Industry it is
extremely hard to say goodbye. We have made so many friends
and met so many nice people in the Industry that we hope we
can stay in contact.
We have also had a number of exceptional people who have
helped at Bar 5 and we would like to single out two individuals
O
who have run our operation over the years. Andreas Buschbeck
who still manages us in Markdale and Neil Moffat who looked
after the Brandon operation. ``THANK YOU BOTH`` for such a
good job. Of course there were many others, but we would like
to thank once again our present staff including Joanne, Linda,
Jeff, Matt, and Pinheiro for all the good work you do and have
done.
Our cattle dispersal will include all the cattle that we own, a lot
of semen and most of our embryos. Circle 3 will stay in business
for the next few years to disperse all remaining embryos and
semen.
To all of our friends and buyers who have attended our sales
and functions, please help us make this a fun time and we will
see you Friday night for a good time as well as the Sale. We
hope to see you all here and hope that we will be able to talk a
little about the past and how you might move on in the future.

ctober 1, 2016 will be a historic day in the Simmental
industry as the legendary Bar 5 Stock Farms will
host their complete dispersal sale. The Bar 5 name
is associated with Simmental greatness world wide
and is highly respected for their many accomplishments.
The impact that Bar 5 has had on the Simmental industry is
impressive to say the least and only at a dispersal does one have
the opportunity to acquire the heart of a program such as this.
Bar 5 was established in 1969 where the Manitoba location
hosted some of the most successful and exciting sales the
Simmental breed has ever seen. Many memories were made
through that sale ring as the standing room only crowds and
high energy sales were ones for the record books. When Bar 5
moved locations 2,300 kilometres east to Markdale, ON they
carried the same excitement and prestige as the sales continued
on to be many of the highly anticipated events of the year. As
we prepare for the historic dispersal, we are confident it will
be nothing less than exciting as it is the final chapter in a very
influential program.
The cattle on offer in the dispersal are the cornerstone genetics
that established Bar 5 as one of the very best in the business.
Herd sires such as Hexagon and Bigolo represent the very best
South African genetics and they are 2 of the most complete
sires in existence. Future Direction and Heist were brought
in to compliment the program by adding overall consistency
through strength of a maternal pedigree. The bull calves
on offer will be your last chance to acquire a Bar 5 herd sire
and they are a deep set. When we toured the Bar 5 program
in June, we were impressed with the amount of high calibre
donor females. Our excitement increased after seeing one after
another highly productive female in production. Whether it is
live cattle or frozen genetics that interest you, this will be a once
in a lifetime opportunity.
The history that Bar 5 made over the past 47 years is second to
none and has grown this great breed as a backbone producer.
By being very influential in producing leading genetics world
wide, the Bar 5 name will always be respected and they will be
missed from Simmental breeding sector. We encourage you to
make the trip to beautiful Markdale, ON in October as a first
class group of cattle backed by some of the great people in the
business will offer one of the most famous herds for auction.

Bar 5 Farms is located approximately 2 hours north of Pearson
International Airport. At Pearson International Airport all major
rental car companies are available to rent from. Grey Bruce Airport
Shuttle (www.greybruceairbus.com) is a shuttle service that
operates from the Toronto airport to Markdale and back. Their
schedule can be found on their website to arrange transportation to
Markdale. We will need to
be notified in advance to pick
you up at the depot. From
there you can either arrange
a car pool with others or we
can arrange for you to get to
your hotel.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
“DNA” PARENT VERIFICATION
Animals sell under the standard terms and conditions of the Canadian
Simmental Association.
All Bar 5 cattle are DNA verified to both the Sire and Dam. We believe in
two responsibilities deeply;
1) Genetic Integrity
2) Genetic Improvement.
INSURANCE
Bar 5 Simmental Farms recommends animals bought at the sale are
insured after purchase with your current insurance company.
SIGHT UNSEEN PURCHASE PROGRAM
If you are unable to attend the sale but are interested in an animal, give
any of the team a call and they will personally go over the animals and
your program and recommend the animal that meets your needs.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash, cheque, Visa, MasterCard
or Debit payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit
arrangements have been made previous to the sale. ALL CHEQUES
SHALL BE MADE PAYABLE TO BAR 5 STOCK FARMS. No sale
will be considered valid until and unless payment made out to BAR 5
STOCK FARMS is received and cleared. The right of property shall not
pass until after settlement is made. Bar 5 Stock Farms reserve full power
to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately,
without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with
keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter.

ALL SETTLEMENTS MUST BE MADE WITH THE CLERK`S OF THE SALE BEFORE

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: The proper Registration or Recordation paper,
as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished.
BID: Every animal consigned to the sale will be sold by auction to highest
bidder.
TRANSPORTATION: Bar 5 will arrange for trucking to your farm or a central
point; the following normal charges will apply unless the buyer wishes to
take care of shipping themselves:
Local $100, Ottawa Valley $250, Quebec $250, Maritimes $350,
Manitoba $300, Saskatchewan & Alberta $350, and U.S.A. $350 US
Funds plus Export fees. Your purchase must be removed by October 31.
DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the
parties involved if no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person
from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The Auctioneer`s
decision in such matters will be final. The Auctioneer shall have the
PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as
soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser`s risk for a
reasonable length of time.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements from the auction block will take
precedence over the printed matter in this catalogue. Buyers are
therefore cautioned to pay attention to such announcements.
BREEDERS GUARANTEE
BULLS: Should any bull fourteen (14) months of age or over, fail to
prove a breeder after being used on cows know to be breeders,
the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six (6)
months following date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull
has reached fourteen (14) months of age. The seller will have the
right and privilege of six (6) months to prove the bull a breeder. No
guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will be suitable
for artificial insemination.
FEMALES: Cows represented as being “pregnancy tested, safe in
calf” have been examined and declared by a licensed veterinarian
and will be accompanied by a veterinarian’s certificate to the effect.
They are considered breeders without further guarantee. Cows
with calves at side shall be considered breeders also without
further guarantee; cows and heifers represented as “bred” are not
guaranteed safe in calf but they are open heifers selling as individual
lots are guaranteed to be breeders. No guarantee shall apply to
sucking calves. In the event a female is claimed to be a non-breeder,
after having been bred regularly to a bull known to be a breeder
and after having been treated by a licensed veterinarian, the matter
must be reported in writing to the seller within six (6) months of sale
date. For heifers under twelve (12) months of age and purchased
as a single lots and who fail to conceive to the services of a bull
known to be a breeder, the matter must be reported in writing to the
seller before the heifer reaches eighteen (18) months of age. The
seller shall have six (6) additional months in which to prove any
such female a breeder and may use any registered bull of the breed
available to him. Any female returned will be at the purchaser’s risk.
No guarantee is given that a pregnant female will deliver live calves
nor that she will carry calves full term not that the calf carried will
not be mummified. The seller is not responsible for damage caused
by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not
apparent at sale time.
SETTLEMENT: TRANSPORTATIONS CHARGES ON ANIMALS
RETURNED TO THE SELLER ARE FOR ACCOUNT OF THE
PURCHASER. No incidental expenses such as feed, A.I. signing
fees, interest, veterinary charges, etc., will be charged by either party
when making settlement. If the seller is successful in proving the
animal a breeder, the said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser
at his expense. Should the seller fail to prove the animal a breeder,
then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement, F.O.B.
ranch or location of origin or a refund of the actual purchase price
paid F.O.B. selling point. In no event shall the seller by responsible
for more than the purchase price. Should a dispute arise over
the quality of the replacement animal, the Sales Management will
appoint a mediator.
HEALTH: All animals will have passed the required tests as
determined by Agriculture Canada at sale location. It is the buyer’s
responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any
animal into his province, state or country.
ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect
the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Owners, Sales
Management, nor Staff, assume any responsibility in this matter and
disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or
loss of property.
RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the
sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and
be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in
this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and
obligations of both parties connected thereto are not covered by the
terms and conditions of this sale.
EXCEPTION OF GUARANTEE: In cases where the animal is subjected
to hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the
guarantee shall be null and void.
EPD’S
Some explanation of why after all these years of testing, ultra
sounding and work with EPD’s we left them out of the catalogue.
The summer run of EPD’s were updated with Genomics and for
animals with a long history are still applicable, for newer imported
animals they did not represent adequately these animals. The new
“BOLT” system being implemented will allow for continuous updates
of EPD’s and thus information gathered a couple months before
the sale will not represent the up to date information, which will be
available on the CSA website.
