Inspired by Nature, the Hospital 9 de Julho in San Paulo Brazil, is a concept
we were called to develop for Amil, Brazil's largest managed care organization.
Our idea is to bring more organic environment and natural sensations to
some of Amil's hospitals as it is known that good design and atmosphere
contributes directly to patients feelings and helps their recovery.
The Hospital 9 de Julho (H9J) is also a particular study case to bring more
warmth to its specific context, as it is located in a typical quarter of San
Paulo were architecture is wildly considered "concrete jungle", as locals
calls it.
We choose to create one entrance inspired by the Flora and a second
one dedicated to the Fauna of San Paulo's most famous park "Ibirapuera".
Presenting the free animals, particularly the winged, that grow and live in
the park as well as the old famous trees with their twisted roots. All design
intentions are present in the project as elements sculpted with double
curvature Inox steel tubes, glass panels enclosed with natural colored light
concrete panels.
We have created an external facade covering the building and adapting it
to highest standards of LEED certification as a green building.
This study case stands a principle for retrofit as well as for new buildings
we will develop for Amil hospitals.
