Millions of Americans use dating sites, social networking sites, and chat rooms to meet people. But, scammers also use these sites to meet potential victims. They create fake profiles to build online relationships, build trust with targeted victims and eventually convince people to send Ascend Unveils Expedited Payment money, which quickly disappears along with the scam artist. We're pleased to announce a new feature within E-PAY called expedited payment. An expedited payment is a next day payment. You pay a small fee to have your electronic or check payment sent more quickly than the typical three to five business days, respectively. If an expedited payment is scheduled before the cutoff time of 6:45 p.m. CST, we will be able to deliver the payment to your payee the following business day. To use the expedited payment option, you must be logged in through the full Web site at ascendfcu.org (it’s not available through the app or mobile account access). You must also click on the “E-PAY” link at the top of the page instead of using the payment widget that looks like a check. Click on “Options” under the “Payee Name,” which opens a new menu under the payee name. As you will see in the screenshot, expedited payment is listed as one of the options available on the left side of the screen. Select the payment type – there is a $10 convenience fee for expedited electronic payments and $25 convenience fee for overnight check payments. After entering the payment amount, click on the “Make payment” button to schedule the payment. How to Recognize a Scam Artist What You Can Do About It The relationship may not be what you think if you encounter these tactics: • You’re asked to leave the dating or social networking site immediately and use personal email or instant messaging (IM) • Someone you’ve only just met claims love in a heartbeat • The new acquaintance claims to be from the U.S. but is traveling or working overseas • That individual plans to visit but is prevented by a traumatic event or a business deal gone sour Don’t wire money to cover: • travel • medical emergencies • hotel bills • hospital bills for a child or other relative • visas or other official documents • or losses from a temporary financial setback Scammers also like to say they’re out of the country for business or military service. Don’t send money to tide someone over after a mugging or robbery, and don’t do anyone a favor by making an online purchase or forwarding a package to another country. One request leads to another, and delays and disappointments will follow. In the end, the money will be gone along with the person you thought you knew. It's that simple. Try it today! Following a U.S. Tax Court ruling, the IRS now says a taxpayer is limited to one rollover per 12-month period regardless of the number of IRAs he or she has. An unlimited number of transfers can still be performed. Members should consult with a competent tax advisor if they will be rolling over an IRA distribution this year. Last spring, Ascend had a contest to reimburse the total amount of one lucky member’s bills up to $2,000 that were set up and paid electronically with E-PAY in June. With one bill, David was that lucky member. “My first thought when I got the call was, ‘Man! Why didn’t I move everything to Ascend?’” he said. David and his wife had been considering moving more of their financial business to Ascend earlier in the year, and they had just begun the transition. “It was a much welcomed and appreciated surprise,” he said about having an E-PAY bill reimbursed. “Just in case this contest rolls around again, I have completed our E-PAY transi- tion. Everything is now drafted via E-PAY with a big smile.” David said he and his wife pay all of their recurring expenses through E-PAY. “The convenience is undeniable,” he said. “I truly appreciate the ease of use; having the ability to receive bills; set up auto drafts and reminders; and having the payment history readily available.” He said the learning curve with E-PAY has been minimal. “Navigating E-PAY was really easy,” David said. “Setting up various payees and scheduling payments was a breeze as the system lists most of the utilities, credit cards and other financial institutions. All we needed were the account numbers for our various payees.” David said he recommends EPAY to anyone who wants to conveniently and securely pay bills online. “I would encourage anyone contemplating E-PAY to at least give it a try,” he said. “I think they will find E-PAY very user friendly, and the convenience, of course, speaks for itself. “And don’t forget about the mobile app. E-PAY is just as easy and convenient on my mobile as it is on my tablet.” S E G WAY Simplify Your Life with Direct Deposit Everyday, you’re pulled in many different directions – work, family, friends, and more. Ascend Prepares for New Murfreesboro-Clark Boulevard Financial Center This section of Possibilities keeps you informed about Select Employee Group (SEG) programs, promotions and events. Welcome New SEGs Couple payroll deduction with direct deposit, and you can do things like make saving automatic, or even get a discount on your Ascend auto loan. In other words, direct deposit can help you make Ascend your primary (or only) financial institution, and that helps you get a larger member return if one is offered at the end of the year. > With the exception of safe deposit boxes, the temporary location will offer members access to the same services they currently have at Clark Boulevard, including night deposit, an ATM, a drive-up, tellers, Member Service Representatives, etc. All safe deposit boxes will be moved during the weekend of Jan. 17 into the operations building behind our financial center at 750 S. Church St. > The hours for the financial center and drive-up will remain the same at the temporary location as they currently are at Clark Boulevard. > The Ascend Retirement and Investment Services representative will temporarily relocate to the operations building at 750 S. Church St. Construction on the new financial center is expected to begin this month and take approximately eight months. possibilities ascendfcu.org [email protected] Corporate Headquarters P.O.
