Originating in the western Mediterranean,
artichokes are from the same family as wild
thistles. The name Camus de Bretagne first
appeared around the year 1810 and today it is
France’s best-known artichoke.

The flagship of Brittany’s vegetable production region, the growing of artichokes is
steeped in tradition. Harvesting, which takes place in the mornings, is completely manual
and delivery to humidity-controlled cold stores takes place the same day.

Castel:
a dark ash-green colour with a round, firmly closed head. It has
broad, short leaves and is harvested between May and mid-November..
this variety is a derivative of the Camus de Bretagne and has been marketed since
1994. It is much appreciated for its large, very fleshly heart. Bright green in colour, it
evolves slowly after harvest and therefore stores well. This variety is harvested
between May and November.

Storage : keep cool and away from light
On-shelf presentation : this is a vegetable sensitive to dry conditions. To maintain
freshness, avoid thermal shocks and spray with water or cover with a damp cloth at the
end of the day.
