Insurance
IWC has liability insurance with Nationale-Nederlanden Schadeverzekering Mij NV. The policy insures IWC as such, members of the Board and employees or voluntary helpers (when
applicable) against claims due to damage caused by persons or to material effects, where
IWC, in one way or another, carries responsibility for causing the damage. IWC has a normal
insurance against legal liability. However, we are not insured for any damage where IWC, its
Board, employees, or voluntary helpers are not liable (for example where an IWC member
through her own carelessness loses something) and members should make sure that they
themselves are properly insured.
Editorial Notes
The Editor reserves the right to cut or edit material sent for publication and cannot guarantee
inclusion in the magazine. Articles published in the Monthly News do not necessarily represent the views of the IWC.
IWC ‘no-show’ policy
If an IWC member signs up for an event (lunch, excursion, activity, etc.) but does not attend
on the given day, or cancels after the stipulated deadline, she will still be billed unless someone can be found to take her place .
Guest Policy
Guests are welcome to attend monthly meetings, and by special arrangement, to participate
in some activities and excursions. A guest fee applies. Reservations prior to the monthly
meetings should be sent to the secretary, [email protected].
Twice a year members can introduce a prospective new member at the monthly meetings
without payment of the guest fee; these guests must fulfill the criteria for joining the club.
Some meetings are reserved for members only.

President’s Letter
June 2016
Dear Ladies,
The new Club Year will start in September with all
kind of activities. In the last couple of years the
Annual General Assembly (AGA), has been held at
the September Monthly Meeting followed up by the Open Club
Day. In reviewing the constitution Art. 9.3 states: “The Annual
General Assembly will be held between four and eight weeks after
the beginning of the new club year” (1 September) therefore the
Board decided the AGA will be held at the October Monthly
Meeting.
But first to the month of June. The theme of the Monthly Meeting is
an Ode to Dutch Fashions presented by the curator of the fashion
and costume department of the Gemeente Museum, Mrs Madelief
Hohé. We look forward to a fascinating lecture about Dutch fashion through the ages.
Lu See Lee and Hetty Diederiks have organized an excursion to
the Hofwijck Museum combined with a tour through old Voorburg
on Wednesday, 15 June. This special tour will be guided by art
historian Jane Choy who actually lives in Voorburg. All newcomers
are invited to this activity.
Thanks to the initiative of our Honorary President, Henriette van
Aartsen an excursion is planned to Midden Delfland, a beautiful
rural area close to The Hague which is participating in the
International project Cittaslow (see page 7).
We have also received a wonderful invitation for IWC members to
visit the Embassy of Georgia on Thursday, 15 September, so put it
in your diary already.
Many thanks to Marlena Reibaldi and Anna Nicolaides for their
hard work on creating the IWC's new website which will go live in
June.
I would like to wish all our IWC members a very good summer
holiday and look forward seeing you all back in good health in
September.
Barbara

Newcomers’ Activity
Wednesday, 15 June
10.00 – 13.00
Excursion to the Hofwijck museum
& a tour in old Voorburg
Near to The Hague is one of the oldest towns of The Netherlands,
Voorburg. People have lived here for over 5000 years. Under the
Romans it was known as Forum Hadriani. This excursion will be
guided by Jane Choy who is a long-time resident of the Old Center
and docent at Hofwijck. She will guide us through this museum and
its wonderful garden. Hofwijck was the country home of Constantijn
and Christian Huygens, two of the most important personalities of
the Dutch Golden Age.
After a coffee break at her lovely historical house, we will walk
through the streets of the charming Old Center. During the tour she
will tell a little bit of the history, including some of the famous
people who lived here such as Spinoza and Princess Marianna,
who had a dark secretive side. Naturally some shopping and restaurant tips will be given as well!
Meeting place: 9.45 at Hofwijck Museum, the programme will
start at 10.00 sharp
Cost: €15 (€17.50 for non-members).
Entrance to museum (€6 - free with museum card)
An optional lunch will be arranged in the old center.
Dear ladies, please leave the high heels at home!

Excursion to Midden-Delfland
Thanks to an initiative by our honorary president Henriette van
Aartsen, there will be an excursion in September to visit MiddenDelfland. Midden-Delfland is a beautiful rural area close to The
Hague which is participating in the international project called
‘Cittaslow’. This is a project that aims to improve the quality of life in
towns by slowing down its overall pace, reducing traffic and focussing on how open spaces are used.
The municipality of Midden-Delfland is the “capital” of Cittaslow
Nederland. Midden-Delfland consists of the towns, Den Hoorn,
Maasland, Schipluiden and the hamlets ‘t Woud and De Zweth.
Our honorary president will accompany us on this excursion which
promises to be extremely interesting. The Board will keep you up to
date and more details will follow in the September Monthly News.
For registration to this excursion please contact

A BIG THANK YOU
As the club year closes, I would like to thank the Board and the
ladies with other functions very much doing their job for us.
International cuisine, Luncheon Group, always to have new ideas,
interesting programmes for the meetings, excursions, Country
mornings.
To keep the club going, that must be a great art because of all
these activities we meet many people from different countries and
become interested in other cultures, food and thinking.
Lastly, I thank the friends of IWC, Mrs Hanneke van Eekelen, Mrs
Saramanta Voorhoeve and the late Mrs Henriette de Lange.
Without them, the IWC would never have existed in The Hague.
Thank you so much!

KOFFIE STAAT KLAAR
Coffee mornings, afternoon teas and “happy hours” are informal
gatherings and a great way for members to meet each other in a
homely atmosphere. Your Area Contact Person (ACP) finds a
hostess or you can offer to be one. It is best if: the get-together is
kept simple; you RSVP to the hostess and cancel with her if you
can't attend after all; you wear your name badge; everyone
converses in English so no one feels left out. Everyone is welcome
at every area activity, regardless of which area you live in. Try
visiting a new area and make some new friends. If you would like
to volunteer to host a coffee, contact your ACP as listed in the
green Membership Directory.
