Cari Passeggeri,
benvenuti a bordo.
Sono millenni che la Storia celebra la Grande Bellezza di
Roma, ma ora è anche un film a raccontarla di nuovo, vincendo l’Oscar come miglior film straniero. Per questo abbiamo voluto dedicare al film di Sorrentino, ma soprattutto
alla nostra Capitale, la copertina del Magazine, con un’immagine emblematica del protagonista, Toni Servillo. Roma
è un’infinita storia d’amore e la primavera che avanza è la
stagione migliore per venire a conoscere i tesori di questa
straordinaria, unica, irripetibile città. Come accade in un’altra grande capitale, Mosca, un altro splendido museo a cielo aperto, come spieghiamo nell’articolo dedicato a questa
città che torna ad essere collegata direttamente da Roma
con due voli settimanali della nostra compagnia low cost
blu-express, che diventeranno tre dal 23 aprile al 14 maggio
e per tutta l’estate.
Ma ci occupiamo anche del caldo che già riscalda Cuba,
parlando soprattutto della magica Trinidad, autentico tesoro coloniale. E poi l’Albania, così vicina a noi, sull’altra riva
dell’Adriatico, un mondo che cerca di correre, migliorare,
inseguire l’Europa. Comunicazioni sempre più facili, anche
grazie ai voli della blu-express, aiutano integrazione e sviluppo, oltre a rendere più semplice l’accesso a luoghi di vacanza
sul mare che hanno raggiunto standard di ospitalità ottimali.

al violoncello di Luca Pincini e al pianoforte di Gilda Buttà,

Dear Passengers,
welcome aboard.
It has been thousands of years that history celebrates the Great
Beauty of Rome, but now also a movie to tell about it, winning
the Oscar for best foreign film. For this we have decided to
dedicate the cover of our magazine to the Sorrentino's film,
but especially to our capital, with an emblematic image of
the protagonist, Toni Servillo. Rome is an endless love story
and spring being closer is the best season to come to see the
treasures of this extraordinary, unique and unrepeatable city.
As with the other large capital, Moscow, another beautiful
open air museum, as we explain in the article dedicated to this
city, a city that goes back to being connected with two weekly
direct flights from Rome with our low cost blu-express, which
will become three from the 23rd of April to the 14th of May and
during the whole of summer.
But we also look at the heat that is already warming Cuba,
speaking especially of the magical Trinidad, authentic colonial
treasure.
Then Albania, so close to us, on the other side of the Adriatic, a world that tries to run, improve, chase Europe. Communications easier than ever, also with thanks to the flights

Mosca è una città dove
l'arte si respira in strada,
passeggiando, lungo
un ponte, nella piazza
di un quartiere, dietro
un palazzo, in una stazione
della metropolitana
C
i si può ancora sorprendere in una società ormai
piegata al dispotismo del web 2.0 dove tutto è in
mostra e tutto si può trovare? Un "sì" divertito è
la risposta che non ti aspetteresti mai dalla capitale del razionalismo costruttivista. Togliamo per un attimo, solo per
un attimo, San Basilio, il Cremlino, la Piazza Rossa, Gorky
Park, le tante bellezze pluriblasonate della città, cosa rimane? Moltissimo, basta sapere dove cercare, perché Mosca è
una città dove l'arte si respira in strada, passeggiando, lungo
un ponte, nella piazza di un quartiere, dietro un palazzo,
in una stazione della metropolitana. E visto che da qualche parte bisogna pur iniziare, perché non da qui e con un
pezzo di Italia? Alla stazione Rimskaja si trova un gruppo
scultoreo con fontana realizzato dagli architetti Imbrighi
e Quattrocchi e dallo scultore Berlin. L'opera, completata

da medaglioni con riproduzioni delle bellezze di Roma,
raffigura Romolo e Remo. Dall'Italia alla Francia: l'uscita
della stazione Kievskaja è la copia esatta di quella parigina
di Père Lachaise. Ancora fontane. Presso la stazione Novokuznetskaja c'è la fontana-scultura di Adamo ed Eva,
opera di Marina e Maria Levinskaja, madre e figlia, mentre
padre e figlio, Aleksandr e Filipp Rukavišnikov, sono gli autori della "Fontana delle Arti" non lontano dalla Galleria
Tret’jakovskaja.
Dall'altra parte del fiume, proseguendo lungo la prospettiva
Kutuzovskij, in Ukrainsky boulevard, si trovano i gruppi
delle Allegorie, mentre la statua di Walt Whitman è collocata davanti alla Facoltà di Lettere dell'Università Statale di
Mosca. Sempre all'Arbat c'è la statua di A. S. Puškin e della
compagna Natalja. L'Arbat varrebbe da solo una visita. È
una strada pedonale lunga circa un chilometro che fa parte
della pianta antica di Mosca – si possono ancora ammirare
le mura originali e una delle porte – e che quindi risale al XV
secolo. Il quartiere che attraversa era considerato dai nobili
russi come la zona residenziale più prestigiosa di Mosca.
Quasi completamente distrutto dal grande incendio durante l'occupazione napoleonica, è stato ricostruito nell'800 e
da qualche decina d'anni si è animato di ristoranti e locali
e abbellito di numerose opere d'arte. Oltre a quelle citate,
fra le altre, c'è la statua di Bulat Okudžava dello scultore Franguljan, quella che è stata dedicata al premio Nobel
per la Letteratura Šolochov di Rukavišnikov, il monumento
all'altro premio Nobel Brodskij sempre di Franguljan e il
gruppo composto da Sherlock Holmes e dal dottor Watson
dello scultore Orlov.

an you still be surprised in a society that is now ruled by the despotism
of web 2.0 where everything is on display, and you can find everything? A
"yes" is the amusing answer that you would not expect from the capital
of constructivist rationalism. May we take away for a second, just for a second, St.
Basil's, the Kremlin, Red Square, Gorky Park, the many colossal beauties of the city,
what is left? A lot is left, you just know where to look, because Moscow is a city
where you can breathe art in the street, strolling along a bridge, in the square of a
neighborhood, behind a building, in a subway station.
And since you’ve got to start somewhere, why not from here and from a piece of
Italy? At the station Rimskaja is a sculpture with a fountain designed by architects
Imbrighi and Quattrocchi and sculptor Berlin. The work, complete with medallions

of Rome, depict Romulus and Remus.
From Italy to France: the outside of the
station Kievskaja is an exact copy of the
Parisian Père Lachaise. More fountains.
At the Novokuznetskaja station there is
the fountain, a sculpture of Adam and
Eve, by Marina and Maria Levinskaja,
mother and daughter, whilst father and
son, Aleksandr e Filipp Rukavišnikov,
are the authors of the "Fountain of
the Arts" not far from the Gallery
Tret'jakovskaja.
Across the river, continuing along the
Kutuzovskij, in Ukrainsky boulevard,
you can see groups of Allegories, while
the statue of Walt Whitman is located
in front of the Moscow State University.
Again at the Arbat there is a statue of A.
S. Puškin and companion Natalja.
The Arbat alone would be worth a visit.
It is a pedestrian street about a kilometer long which is part of the ancient plan
of Moscow and you
can still see the original walls and one of
the door, it dates back
to the fifteenth century. The neighborhood
which it crosses was
considered by Russian nobles as the
most prestigious residential area of Moscow. Almost completely destroyed by the

it was rebuilt in the 800s and for some ten years has been animated by restaurants and bars and embellished with numerous works of art. In addition to those mentioned, there is a

La moda di appendere un lucchetto su un lampione o
una balaustra e di gettare nel fiume la chiave è diventata ormai una pratica diffusissima. Basta un ponte, un
fiume e una coppia di innamorati che vogliono scambiarsi una promessa di amore eterno. Spesso tuttavia
a resistere nel tempo rimangono solo i lucchetti che si
trasformano in grandi grattacapi per tutte le amministrazioni comunali alle prese con grandi masse di ferraglia che deturpano il paesaggio e che pregiudicano
la stabilità delle strutture su cui gravano. A Mosca
hanno trovato una soluzione ingegnosa e molto creativa. Si sono detti: perché non trasformarli in opere
d'arte? Detto fatto. Sul ponte pedonale Lužkov che
attraversa il canale Vodootvodnyj sono cresciuti degli
alberi metallici le cui chiome sono interamente costituite da fronde di lucchetti di tutte le fogge. L'effetto
è davvero sorprendente soprattutto quando i raggi
del tramonto strappano bagliori metallici che fanno a
gara con le mille pagliuzze dorate dell'acqua.
THE LOVERS' BRIDGE
The fashion of hanging a padlock on a lamppost or a
railing and throw the key into the river has become a
widespread practice. All is needed is a bridge, a river
and a pair of lovers who want to exchange their promise of eternal love. However, often all that remains with
time are only the locks that turn into big problems for
all municipal governments struggling with large masses of junk that disfigure the landscape and affect the
stability of the structures on which they weigh down.
In Moscow they found an ingenious and very creative
solution. They though: why not turn them into works of
art? Said and done. On the pedestrian bridge called
Lužkov which crosses the canal Vodootvodnyj strange
trees have grown, whose metal leafed branches are
entirely formed by clusters of padlocks of all shapes.
The effect it makes is really amazing especially when
the rays of sunset shed a metallic glow that competes
with the thousands of golden flecks of water.

Paolo Sorrentino (Napoli, 1970) è un
regista e sceneggiatore. Nel 2001 realizza
il suo primo lungometraggio, L’uomo in
più, con Toni Servillo e Andrea Renzi. Il suo
secondo film Le conseguenze dell’amore,
è l’unico film italiano in concorso
al Festival di Cannes.
Seguono, L’amico di famiglia (2006), Il
Divo (2008), This must be the place (2011).

uando sono arrivato a Roma,
a 26 anni, sono precipitato abbastanza presto, quasi senza
rendermene conto, nel
vertice della mondanità. Ma io non volevo
essere semplicemente un mondano, volevo
diventare il re dei mondai; io non volevo
solo partecipare alle feste, volevo avere il
potere di farle fallire».
Questo è Jep Gambardella (Tony Servillo), giornalista, disincantato e dolente, romano non d’origine, ma romano
nell’anima e voce narrante de La grande
bellezza. Una magistrale interpretazione quella di Tony Servillo, insieme alla
regia di Paolo Sorrentino raggiunge il
sogno più ambito, l’Oscar. Una coppia
vincente, Sorrentino Servillo, già tante
volte insieme su film di indimenticabile perfezione estetica: L’uomo in più, Le
conseguenze dell’amore e Il Divo.

Virgilio che ci accompagna nei gironi
di una Roma bellissima ma infernale.
«Il grande tourbillon carnevalesco che si
agita nelle notti di Jep – racconta il regista Paolo Sorrentino – si placa quando al termine della notte arriva l’alba a
Roma, e con essa il silenzio, solo allora il
nostro protagonista subodora il sublime e
allora tutto ricomincia con rinnovato vigore». A Los Angeles arriva una Roma
esagerata, rumorosa, accogliente. Una
città che apre le porte a tutti: politici
e attori, alti prelati e nobili decaduti e
ancora tanti criminali. Un crogiolo di
personaggi – più che persone –, tutti
disposti a vendere l’anima e tuffarsi nel
vortice della vacuità più sfrenata. La
traduzione in parole viene proprio dallo stesso Servillo: «Si avverte la potenza
affascinante ed inquietante delle rovine e
del passato, di un’intera civiltà raccontata
sul precipizio di un burrone; Roma è descritta spesso con tinte surreali, più barocca del barocco stesso che esprime, un luogo
bellissimo, di una bellezza che ferisce e può
uccidere».

Guardare La grande bellezza significa anche fare un grande tour
cinematografico nei luoghi più belli di Roma. All'inizio della pellicola la macchina da presa di Sorrentino si sofferma sul cannone
del Gianicolo e subito dopo appare la fontana dell'Acqua Paola,
sulla sommità del colle dove, in auna giornata di sole, un gruppo
di donne canta sulla balaustra della fontana.
La bellissima casa di Jep Gambardella si affaccia sul Colosseo, più
volte ripreso nel film assieme ai Fori Imperiali e al Circo Massimo.
Quando Jep cammina con Orietta, interpretata da Isabella Ferrari, sono a Piazza Navona. Lei risiede in una stupenda casa con vista nella celebre Piazza. «Cosa fai nella vita?» chiede Jep a Orietta. E lei: «Sono ricca».
La sequenza più fiabesca è girata sull'Aventino. Jep e Ramona
(Sabrina Ferilli) guardano dal famoso buco della serratura del
cancello del Priorato dei Cavalieri di Malta da dove è possibile
vedere un'insolita prospettiva della cupola di San Pietro.
La performance artistica a cui Jep assiste con visibile cinismo è
ambientata al Parco degli Acquedotti che fa parte del Parco regionale dell'Appia Antica.
Alle Terme di Caracalla sono girate le sequenze più surreali del
film: Jep incontra un amico prestigiatore che sta provando a far
sparire una giraffa enorme. Infine, la Fontana di Trevi, che non poteva mancare in un film che ha molti riferimenti visivi con il cinema
di Federico Fellini.

Watching The Great Beauty also means taking a great film tour of
the most beautiful places in Rome. At the beginning of the film
Sorrentino's camera lingers on the cannon at the Gianicolo and
immediately after we see the Acqua Paola fountain, on the top
of the hill where, on a sunny day, a group of women sing on the
railings of the fountain.
Jep Gambardella’s beautiful house overlooks the Colosseum,
seen several times in the film along with the Forum and the Circus
Maximus.
When Jep walks with Orietta – played by Isabella Ferrari – they
are at Piazza Navona. She resides in a beautiful home overlooking
the famous Piazza. «What do you do?» Asks Jep to Orietta. She
answers: «I'm rich».
The most fairy like sequence is set on the Aventine. Jep and Ramona (Sabrina Ferilli) look through the famous keyhole of the
gate of the Priory of the Knights of Malta from where you can see
an unusual perspective of the dome of St. Peter.
The artistic performance in which Jep assists with visible cynicism
is set in the Aqueduct Park which is part of the Regional Park of
the Appia Antica.
The most surreal sequences of the film are taken at the Baths of
Caracalla: Jep meets a magician friend who is trying to get rid of a
huge giraffe. Finally, the Trevi Fountain, which could not miss in a
film that has many visual references to the films of Federico Fellini.

art without barriers and limits. I mean from the great historical
repertoires, to the language of music today. To feed our profession and our passion is always the curiosity and the desire
to compete and go for it every day, and why not, to discuss
among ourselves.
What hopes do you have for the future of music?
Gilda and Luca: One bigger than any other: for however
much it can change, may it always be experienced by people
as real emotion and progress of human thought.
What does 4 Italian Oscars represent for you?
Luca Pincini: First of all, the disc is a tribute to these great
composers, but it is also a link between the recording studio
and the concert hall. When Gilda and I record a soundtrack,

dei giorni nostri. Ciò che alimenta la nostra professione e la nostra passione è sempre la curiosità e la
voglia di confrontarsi e mettersi in gioco quotidianamente, e perché no, anche discutere fra di noi .
Che speranze avete per il futuro della Musica?
Gilda e Luca: Una sopra ad ogni altra: per quanto
potrà cambiare veste e fruizione, che sia sempre vissuta dai popoli, come vera emozione e progresso del

Q
uanti colori esistono? Questa è una di quelle domande a cui è impossibile dare una risposta. I colori che la natura ci regala sono davvero tantissimi
se solo ci si sofferma a pensare alle numerose sfumature
cromatiche che caratterizzano ogni singolo oggetto che ci
circonda. E tra le tante tonalità ne esiste una che più di
altre ha segnato in modo significativo la storia della moda
e dell’arredo chic. Si tratta del blu navy, o blu marino, una
delle gradazioni più scure del blu, tanto da avvicinarsi molto
al nero.
E se il blu è da sempre simbolo di calma e di pace, il colore
che fa dimenticare tutti i problemi – tanto che gli antichi
Egizi se ne servivano per allontanare il male –, il blu navy è
emblema di eleganza e di stile. Questa tonalità è diventata
nel tempo sinonimo di tendenza e glamour.
Il nome di questa particolare e ricercata gradazione di blu
deriva dalle divise della Royal Navy, la Marina Militare
Britannica risalente al XVI secolo che contribuì in modo
decisivo allo sviluppo dell’Impero della Gran Bretagna tra
1600 e il 1800. Alla divisa indossata dalla Royal Navy, infatti, venne in breve tempo associato prestigio ed eleganza: grazie alla capacità di controllo dei mari e delle rotte di
commercio che la Marina dimostrò di avere fin dagli esordi,
non ci volle molto a fare del blu delle loro divise un colore
di tendenza.
Il blu navy che contraddistingueva il prestigio militare acquisì pertanto un valore unico, legato al potere e alla supremazia. L’alta moda iniziò a tingersi di quella sfumatura
unica e ricercata. Nei primi decenni del ventesimo secolo
molti vestiti maschili, dalle uniformi agli abiti da sera, che
nei secoli precedenti erano stati neri, furono esclusivamente del famoso “bleu marin”.
La prima volta in cui questa nuova gradazione venne identificata con il termine blue navy fu però nel 1840, quando il
fascino sofisticato della tonalità di blu iniziò ad essere apprezzata non solo nella moda ma anche nell’arredamento.
Da quel momento furono in tanti a sceglierlo: il blu navy diventava ufficialmente un must, il colore che più di altri era
capace di arredare con compostezza, grazia e discrezione.
Mobili, vetrine, cassettiere dipinte di blu marino acquistavano quell’estetica invecchiata che richiamava la bellezza
senza tempo delle onde del mare e della spiaggia.
Se nell’immaginario collettivo il blu è sinonimo di tranquillità e spensieratezza, il blu navy è senza dubbio il simbolo
dell’arredo chic, che tinge gli abiti e le case del blu più profondo.

ow many colors are there? This is one of those
questions that are impossible to answer. Colors
given to us by nature are many if we stop to
think about all shades that characterise every object
around us. Among the numerous shades there is one,
which more than the others, has shaped significantly the
history of fashion and interior design trends. This is navy
blue or navy, one of the darker shades of blue, so dark
to be very close to black.
So, if blue is a symbol of calm and peace, the color that
helps you forget all problems – so much so that the
ancient Egyptians used it to ward off evil – navy blue is
a symbol of elegance and style. This shade over time has become a
synonym of trend and glamour.
The name of this special and sophisticated shade of blue derives
from the uniforms of the Royal Navy, the British Navy dating back to
the sixteenth century that contributed decisively to the development
of the Great British Empire between 1600 and 1800. In fact, in a short
time and space the uniform worn by the Royal Navy became associated with prestige and elegance; thanks to the ability to control seas
and trade routes that the Navy proved to have since the beginning,
it did not take much to make the blue of their uniform a trend color.
The navy blue that represented the military prestige acquired as such
a unique value associated with power and supremacy. The top fashions began to be tinged with this unique and sought after hue. In the
first decades of the twentieth century many of men's clothing, from
uniforms to evening gowns, which in previous centuries had been
black, were now exclusively in the famous "navy blue."
However, the first time that this new colour had been identified with
the term navy blue was in 1840, when the sophisticated appeal of this
shade of blue began to be appreciated not only in fashion but also
in the interior design world. Since then it was chosen by many: navy
blue officially became a must, the color which was able to furnish with
poise, grace and discretion more than any other. Furniture, cabinets,
chests of drawers painted navy gained an aesthetic look that recalled
the timeless beauty of the sea waves and the beach.
If in connotations blue is synonymous with tranquility and happiness,
then navy blue is undoubtedly the symbol of chic furniture, which
colours clothes and houses of the deepest blue.

lago ormai turco: l'aquila a due teste in
campo giallo di Bisanzio è infatti quasi
la stessa di quella che oggi campeggia
sul drappo rosso d'Albania. Un legame così profondamente sentito quello
con la romanità che la bandiera bizantina, insieme a quella greca, è ancora
ostentata con orgoglio dalle chiese
ortodosse della Ionia. Roma come filo
conduttore, dunque, e difatti chi avesse la curiosità di risalire viale Aventino
in direzione del Circo Massimo si imbatterà in una grande statua equestre
di bronzo che, manco a dirlo, domina
una piazza chiamata Albania. Lassù, in
cima a un poderoso cavallo da guerra,
sta Giorgio Castriota detto Scanderberg. Magari ai più questo nome non
dice nulla ma fino a non molto tempo
fa se un bambino turco faceva i capricci lo spauracchio da evocare non era il
lupo cattivo o l'uomo nero ma Isk-Beg
cioè proprio lui, Giorgio Castriota,
Iskender Beg in lingua ottomana.
Un legame che può fare di una semplice visita turistica un vero e proprio
viaggio di scoperta. A cominciare dalle
bellezze naturali. L'Albania ospita ben
15 Parchi Nazionali, fra cui il bellissimo Parco di Theth popolato da orsi,

La città di pietra dice che è l'unica città
dove se ti affacci alla finestra puoi appoggiare il cappello sulla punta di un
minareto. A Tirana e nei bazar tradizionali di Kruja si possono acquistare
una grande varietà di prodotti artigianali e poi come dimenticare il mare?

si cullano quattro isolette raggiungibili
anche a nuoto oppure Dhermi, nello
splendido tratto di costa tra il Passo di
Llogaraja e Saranda.

uno strano destino quello che
ha legato per centinaia d'anni
due territori così vicini come
l'Italia e l'Albania. Vicini, anzi vicinissimi, ma spesso incredibilmente lontani, così lontani che spesso il sospetto
ha prevalso sulla ragione trasformando quello stretto braccio di mare in
un orizzonte da scrutare con angoscia.
Eppure è difficile trovare due paesi
con tanto in comune. La bandiera albanese, tanto per fare un esempio, è
la copia esatta del vessillo che fino alla

chiare sul ruolo reciproco
che Italia e Albania possono ricoprire in un'Europa finalmente votata alla crescita e allo
sviluppo. Il premier ha già incontrato il governatore della Puglia
Nichi Vendola, a testimonianza dello stretto rapporto che lega
due territori così vicini, ma il tour andrà per diversi mesi e interesserà anche il Nord della Penisola. L'obiettivo è quello di convincere piccole, medie e grandi aziende italiane a lavorare con
l'Albania e a investire sulle sue risorse. «L'Albania è un paese
ricco, giovane e bello, con petrolio, minerali e tanta acqua. La
nostra agricoltura è poco sviluppata, ma con enormi ricchezze
da sfruttare. È infine un paese di sole, con una costa meravigliosa ma ancora poco sviluppata». Dalle sue parole si percepisce
l'orgoglio di appartenere a un paese ricco di materie prime e
beni naturali ma privo delle tecnologie e del management per
sfruttarle al meglio, come dimostra ad esempio l'interesse per il
progetto Alterenergy sulle energie rinnovabili, settore nel quale la Puglia è all'avanguardia. «Quello che abbiamo da offrire
– continua Rama con grande entusiasmo – è la vicinanza geografica dei nostri due paesi e costi di lavoro davvero molto bassi per
le vostre imprese». Un connubio che può davvero rivelarsi sullo
scenario internazionale una prossima grande novità.

the mutual role that Italy and Albania can hold in Europe, which
is finally devoted to growth and development. The prime minister has already met with the governor of Puglia, Nichii Vendola, evidence of the close relationship between the two lands
so near, but the tour will go on for several months and will also
affect the North of the Peninsula. The goal is to convince small,
medium and large Italian companies to work with Albania and
invest in its resources. «Albania is a rich, young and beautiful
country, with oil, minerals and plenty of water. Our agriculture
is underdeveloped, but with enormous potential to be used. Finally, it is a country of sunshine, with a wonderful coast but yet
underdeveloped». From his words, we perceive the pride of belonging to a country rich in raw materials and natural resources
but devoid of technology and management to use at best, as
shown by, for example, the interest in the project Alterenergy
on renewable energy, a sector in which Puglia is at the forefront.
«What we have to offer – Rama continues with great enthusiasm – is the geographical proximity of our two countries and low
work costs for our business». An alliance that could reveal itself
as the next big thing on the international market scene.

t is a strange fate that has tied, for hundreds of years,
two territories so close together as Italy and Albania.
Close, actually very close, but also incredibly far. So
far from each other, that often suspicion has prevailed
over reason, transforming that narrow stretch of sea
in an anxious looking horizon. Yet, it is difficult to find
two countries with so much in common. The Albanian
flag, just to make one example, is an exact copy of the
banner that up to half of the 400’s represented the last
Piazza Scanderbeg, Tirana
bastion of the Roman Empire in a lake
which is now Turkish: a two-headed
eagle on a yellow Byzantine field is in fact
almost the same as the one which now
stands on the red flag of Albania. It is
a bond so deeply felt with the Romans
that the Byzantine flag, along with the
Greek one, is still proudly flaunted by
the Orthodox churches of Ionia. Rome is
the main theme then, and in fact those
who have the curiosity to ascend the
Aventine streets in the direction of the
Circus Maximus will encounter a large
equestrian statue made of bronze which,
ironically, dominates a square called
Albania. Up there, on top of the mighty
war horse, is sat Giorgio Castriota also
called Scanderbeg. Maybe the name
does not ring any bells to most but
until not so long ago if a Turkish child
misbehaved the bugaboo to call upon
was not the big bad wolf or the black
man but Isk-Beg, or George Castriota,
Iskender Beg in the Ottoman language.
A bond that can create from a simple
tourist visit a real journey of discovery.
Starting with natural beauty. Albania
is home to over 15 National Parks,
including the beautiful park Theth
populated by bears, wolves, foxes, wild
boars and lynxes, where you can see
the shades of ice blue colours from the
water source Syri i Kalter ne Theth (the
blue eye of Theth ) in Gjirokastra and the
pine park Divjaka with the lagoon area
Karavasta, one of the most important
ecosystems of the region. Of importance
are also the marks left by the passage
of Romans, Venetians and Turks. In
Durres, on top of a hill, lies the beautiful
amphitheater from the second century
whilst the archaeological site of Butrinto
is strong evidence of how this country,
the hinge between the Balkans and the
Mediterranean, was important to the
Romans. Then the beautiful medieval
district of Gjirokastra: Ismail Kardaré who
set his novel The Stone City here, says
it is the only city where looking outside
the window it seems you can leave your
hat on the tip of minaret. In Tirana and in
the traditional bazaars of Kruja you can
buy a wide variety of craft products and
who can forget the sea? Ksamil with its
turquoise waters lulling the four islands
can be reached just by swimming or
Dhërmi, in the beautiful stretch of coast
between Saranda and Llogaraja Pass.

ome una parentesi tra le acque del Mar dei Caraibi. E
raggiungere Cuba, soggiornarci, è di sicuro una parentesi indimenticabile, un viaggio che arricchisce ogni senso. Non una semplice
isola bensì un arcipelago che comprende circa 4000 isole.
E tra isole e splendide città, anche
straordinari gioielli dell’architettura
coloniale. Come Trinidad, una cittadina dove lasciarsi travolgere dalla
macchina del tempo e tornare dolcemente indietro, fino all’inizio del
1500, quando Diego Velazquez de
Cuellarla fondò con il nome di Villa

De la Santísima Trinidad. Oggi è un
tesoro che l’Unesco ha dichiarato Patrimonio dell’Umanità dal 1988.
La maggior parte dei suoi splendidi
edifici, incluso il Museo Histórico
Municipal e il Museo de Arquitectura Trinitaria, si trovano intorno Plaza Mayor, la piazza principale della
città. Ma è soprattutto l’atmosfera
a conquistare chi passeggia per stradine, vicoli e piazze. Un’atmosfera
tipicamente cubana, rilassata, spesso
accompagnata dalla musica locale che
sbuca da una radio o sboccia all’improvviso dalle corde di una chitarra,
che qualcuno impugna all’ombra di
un portone.
Trinidad è una piccola magia. Anche
se il passato ricorda i tempi terribili
della schiavitù. Si possono ancora
vedere le capanne dove vivevano gli
schiavi ed è anche per questo che Trinidad viene chiamata “la città museo
di Cuba”.
Anche Trinidad, come tutta Cuba, è
un luogo magico di musica, ritmo e
canti. È il regno del rhum e di meravigliosi sigari, ma anche il posto ideale
per isolarsi e dedicarsi al mare, che
tanto affascinò il grande scrittore Ernest Hemingway.
Anche lungo questa parte di isola
brillano meravigliose zone di litorale:
appena fuori città c'è la famosa penisola di Ancón con una rinomata e ampia spiaggia di sabbia (Playa Ancón).
E tutto intorno, un paesaggio da cartolina, sospesa tra le montagne e la
costa caraibica, offre un’abbondanza
di attrazioni naturali, prime fra tutte le montagne della vicina Sierra del
Escambray.
La Laguna del tesoro
e i suoi coccodrilli
All’interno del Parco Naturale della Penisola di Zapata si
trova il maggiore allevamento di coccodrilli di Cuba. Si
possono ammirare i loro scheletri e osservare i grandi o
piccoli coccodrilli. Una visita guidata permetterà di conoscere da vicino questa specie, capire quanto sia difficile
cacciarli e quanto sia particolare il loro modo di mangiare.
Qui quasi 10 mila coccodrilli, classificati per aree e dimensioni, attendono i curiosi amanti della natura selvaggia.

L
ike an interlude between the waters of the Caribbean Sea. Getting to Cuba, staying there, is
certainly an unforgettable parenthesis, a journey
to enrich every sense. Not a simple island but an archipelago comprising of 4,000 islands.
Among islands and beautiful cities, there are even
extraordinary jewels of colonial architecture. Like
Trinidad, a town where you can be taken in by a time
machine and gently go back in time, to the beginning
of 1500, when Diego de Velazquez Cuellarla founded
with the name of Villa de la Santisima Trinidad. Today it
is a treasure that UNESCO has declared a World Heritage Site since 1988. Most of its beautiful buildings,
including the Museo Historico Municipal and Museo
de Arquitectura Trinitarian, are located around the
Plaza Mayor, the main square of the city. But, above
all it is the atmosphere to conquer those strolling the

be a sad translation in Italian, but all over the world it
is known by its true name of Club Sandwich. The name originates from the first
place to serve it: the Club House Sandwich in Saratoga Springs, near New York.

only. Adding to the classic sandwich, between two slices of toast, Danny made a
revolutionary act, and added a third slice

traduzione, ma in tutto il mondo è conosciuto
col suo vero nome: Club House Sandwich. Il
nome prende origine dal primo locale che lo propose, il Club
House Sandwich di Saratoga Springs, vicino New York. Era
il lontano 1899 e Danny Mearslo ero chef del Club di gioco
d’azzardo per soli uomini. Al sandwich classico tra due fette
di pane tostato, Danny fece un gesto rivoluzionario e aggiunse una terza fetta di pane ripiena e realizzò il primo Club

È così che nacque il panino multistrato più celebre del pianeta: in un locale fumoso pieno di americani newyorkesi che
giocavano a poker e bevevano alcolici. Gustoso e bellissimo
sandwich che alterna strati croccanti e coloratissimi di pane tostato, bacon, tacchino, pomodoro, insalata verde e maionese.

La preparazione
Rosolare il bacon e le fette sottili di tacchino in padella o
sulla piastra fino a renderli abbrustoliti. Tagliare i pomodori
a fette sottili; lavare le foglie di lattuga e, se necessario, tagliarle della stessa dimensione della fetta di pane. In ultimo
tostare il pane. Quando il pane è caldo e croccante, spalmare la maionese sulla prima fetta e iniziare a comporre i vari
strati: una foglia di lattuga, due fette di tacchino, un paio
di fette di pomodoro, due fette di bacon. Poi si ricomincia:
una fetta di pane tostato e spalmato di maionese, lattuga,
tacchino, pomodoro e bacon. Chiudere il panino con la terza e ultima fetta di pane tostato.
Con un coltello ben affilato tagliare il sandwich trasversalmente in modo da ottenere due sandwich a forma triangolare da servire nello stesso piatto.

Preparation
Brown the bacon and thin turkey slices in
a pan or on a hot grill pan until they are
crispy. Cut the tomatoes into thin slices,
wash the lettuce leaves and if necessary
cut them the same size as the slices of
bread. Finally toast the bread. When the
bread is hot and browned, spread the
mayonnaise on the first slice and begin
to compose the layers: a lettuce leaf,
two slices of turkey , a couple of tomato
slices, two slices of bacon. Then again: a
slice of toasted bread with mayonnaise,
lettuce, turkey, tomato and bacon. Close
the sandwich with the third and final slice
of toast.
With a sharp knife cut the sandwich
crosswise so you get two sandwiches in
a triangular shape to serve in the same
dish .

JULIO LARRAZ on sea, air and other stories
Sono un centinaio le opere del maestro di origine cubana
esposte in un periodo temporale che va dal 1975 agli anni
’90, inclusi anche alcuni inediti realizzati da Larraz appositamente per questa mostra. I temi affrontati nei dipinti sono vari e vanno dall’allegoria del potere all’estetica
femminile, incentrandosi sulle citazioni cinematografiche,
politica dell’umorismo, erotismo inteso come qualcosa di
languido e suadente. Non è un caso che sia proprio Catania, città siciliana che si apre sul Mar Mediterraneo, a
ospitare la personale di Julio Larraz: le opere dell’artista,
infatti, realistiche o oniriche che siano, descrivono il suo
legame con il mare, un bacino aperto che ispira il viaggio,
l’apertura verso l’ignoto, il mistero dell’immenso e dell’inafferrabile, l’immaginazione.

world. The opportunity to admire the portrait in Italy was offered thanks to the temporary closing of the Mauritshuis Museum
– due to major renovation and expansion
of some areas – place from which the

«L'
architettura è un servizio, nel senso più letterale del termine. È un'arte che
produce cose che servono. Ma è anche un'arte socialmente pericolosa, perché
è un'arte imposta. Un brutto libro si può non leggere; una brutta musica si
può non ascoltare; ma il brutto condominio che abbiamo di fronte a casa lo vediamo per
forza. L'architettura impone un'immersione totale nella bruttezza, non dà scelta all'utente.
E questa è una responsabilità grave, anche nei confronti delle generazioni future».
Da Elogio della costruzione, discorso alla presenza di Bill Clinton in occasione della
ricezione del Premio Pritzker.
È dunque la responsabilità un fattore predominante e di forza, per Renzo Piano, e tale caratteristica si percepisce semplicemente osservando gli edifici da lui
progettati.
È un uomo dalle molte qualità, dotato di un indiscusso carisma, contagioso entusiasmo e volontà fattiva – tanto da dichiarare che se riposa troppo gli viene mal di
testa! –, uno che usa “il linguaggio della tecnica” senza mai dimenticare l’aspetto
artigianale del suo lavoro ed è per questo che ama progettare giocando con fogli
di carta oleati, piegandoli, strappandoli, passandoli sul tavolo da lavoro e creando
spesso proprio così alcune delle sue idee migliori.
Il suo lavoro sottende un’ideologia, perché per lui un architetto deve essere al
tempo stesso un umanista, scienziato e soprattutto un costruttore; il suo modo di
indirizzare la creatività verso nobili intenti ne ha fatto un architetto di fama internazionale. Le sue opere sono ispirate proprio alla visione delle periferie come luogo di riqualificazione, recupero e di sperimentazione per sistemi di energia pulita
che possano aiutare l’architettura a ritrovare la dimensione poetica delle origini.
Renzo Piano ha inoltre il culto della bellezza e non ne fa mistero. Per lui �lungi
dall'essere una dimensione romantica, quando è colta nella sua essenza profonda è una delle

poche emozioni che possono competere – lascio da parte l'amore, che è particolare – con
le grandi emozioni che spingono il mondo: la
gloria, il potere, la ricchezza».
Qualcuno caldeggiava la sua nomina,
sebbene sia un personaggio estraneo
alla politica, a Presidente della Repubblica italiana. L’archistar ha elegantemente replicato: «Mi mancano i
rudimenti di cultura istituzionale». Meglio
così, niente distrazioni: sono tante le
opere cui darà vita nei prossimi anni e
di cui il mondo ha ancora bisogno.

Therefore responsibility is a predominant factor and strength, for Renzo Piano, and this
point can be perceived simply by looking at the buildings he has designed.
A man of many talents, with an indisputable charisma, contagious enthusiasm and active approach, enough to declare that if he rests too much he suffers headaches! He
uses "the language of technology" without forgetting the artisan aspect of his work and
this is why he loves designing playing with oiled papers, folding them, ripping them,
passing them on his work table and creating, often this way, some of his best ideas.
His work implies an ideology, because for him an architect is at the same time a humanist, a scientist, and above all a builder. His way of directing creativity towards noble
intentions has made him an internationally renowned architect. His work is inspired
by the vision of suburbs as a place of rehabilitation, recovery and experimentation
towards clean energy systems that can help architecture to find the poetic dimension
of its origins. Renzo Piano also possesses the cult of beauty and makes no mystery.
For him, «far from being a romantic dimension, when cultured
in its deepest essence it is one of the few emotions that can
compete – leaving aside love, which is particular – with the powerful emotions that drive the world: glory, power, wealth». Some
had even supported his nomination, although he is a character
estranged to politics, for President of the Italian Republic. The
star of architects smartly replied: «I don’t have the foundations
of institutional culture». Just as well, no distractions: many will be
the pieces to which he will give life to in the coming years and
that the world needs.

UNA GUIDA RAPIDA PER AIUTARE
IL PASSEGGERO
Per proteggervi contro la nuova minaccia derivante dagli esplosivi liquidi, l’Unione Europea ha adottato nuove regole di sicurezza che limitano le quantità di liquidi che possono essere
introdotti nelle aree sterili. Tali regole si applicano nei confronti
tutti i passeggeri in partenza dagli aeroporti dell’Unione Europea verso qualsiasi destinazione.
Ciò significa che ai controlli di sicurezza, il passeggero e il relativo
bagaglio a mano devono essere controllati per verificare la presenza di liquidi.
Comunque, le nuove regole non limitano la quantità di liquidi che possono essere
acquistati presso gli esercizi commerciali situati oltre il punto di controllo del titolo di viaggio od a bordo di un aeromobile di compagnia appartenente all’Unione
Europea.
Le nuove regole si applicano a partire da lunedì 6 novembre 2006, in tutti gli aeroporti dell’Unione Europea, in Norvegia, Islanda e Svizzera a meno di eventuali
modifiche.
A SHORT GUIDE TO HELP YOU
To protect you against the new threat of liquid explosives, the European Union (EU)
introduced new security rules to limit the amount of liquids that you can take through
security checkpoints. They apply to all passengers departing from EU airports to all
destinations.
This means that, at security checkpoints, you and your hand luggage must be inspected for liquids screening in addition to other prohibited articles. However, the
new rules do not limit the liquids that you can buy at shops located beyond the
checkpoints.
The new rules are in force as to Monday 6th November 2006 at all airports in the EU
and in Norway, Iceland, Switzerland until further notice.

Jet Lag
Il vostro “orologio biologico” può a volte non gradire i cambi di fuso
legati al viaggio aereo: senso di affaticamento, difficoltà a prendere
sonno e riduzione dell’appetito sono tra i sintomi più comuni. Per minimizzare l’impatto di tale fenomeno, si consiglia di dormire bene la
notte prima del volo e di mantenere le proprie “lancette biologiche”
sull’orario di casa se la permanenza nel luogo di destinazione non dovesse superare i due giorni. In caso di una permanenza più prolungata, è
opportuno adeguarsi il prima possibile all’orario locale e attenersi a regole di vita
salutari, tenendo presente che il recupero degli effetti “jet lag” è generalmente
più rapido se si viaggia con direzione ovest e più lento con direzione est.
Sometimes you “biological clock” may not welcome the time changes involved
in air travel and it finds ways of letting you know about this. Some of the most
common symptoms are a sense of weariness, difficulty in falling asleep at night
and appetite loss. To minimize jet lag effects, make sure you get a good night
sleep before leaving and, if you plan to stay abroad less than two days, keep you
biological clock set on your home time (i.e. keep your regular eating and sleeping
habits). In the event of a longer trip, it is advisable to get used to local time as
soon as possible and to conduct a regular and healthy life. Remember that getting over jet lag is generally quicker when travelling westwards than eastwards.

To help you feel better when you fly with us, just follow these
tips and suggestions designed to enhance your well being on
board

Prolonged sitting in a fixed position can make you feel uncomfortable in the plane. Every few hours, stretch your arms and legs
or carry out some easy exercises* suggested below.
Consumate pasti leggeri, mangiate con moderazione e limitare
bevande gassate, tè e caffè.
Eat a light meal and moderate you intake of fizzy drinks, tea and
coffee.
Bevete molta acqua naturale, meglio se in piccole quantità e
spesso.
Drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated.

Start the exercise by sitting in comfortably in your seat in an upright position.

Rest both feet on the floor. Flex both feet with toes pointing
upward, then point your toes downward Perform this exercise
five times.
