Dr. Sean McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Dr. Christian Troy (Julian McMahon)–
two plastic surgeons, close friends and business partners who own
McNamara/Troy, an overwhelmingly successful plastic surgery practice–
attempt to bring inner peace and visceral contentment to their patients
through external cosmetic procedures. Although their patients aspire
to cover up their pain, it is the surgeons who wear the true masks of
anguish and unhappiness, of sadness and disillusionment. For over two
decades, they have shared a love for the same woman, Julia McNamara
(Joely Richardson), and while she married Sean, Julia has loved both
men. At mid-life, Sean and Christian question the prosperity that has
brought them so much – and offered so little.
nip/tuck’s fifth season continues where season four left
off: following the divorce from Julia, Sean sold his half
of McNamara/Troy and departed Miami for Los Angeles.
Christian, who ended his engagement to Michelle (Sanaa
Lathan), soon followed — thus relocating McNamara/Troy
to the West Coast. Dr. Liz Cruz (Roma Maffia) also joins
the new McNamara/Troy for a fresh start as she recovers
physically and emotionally from past loves. Julia, now living
in New York with daughter Annie (Kelsey Lynn Batelann)
and baby Conor, visits Sean and Christian in Los Angeles,
bringing a new, female love with her. Matt (John Hensley)
and Kimber (Kelly Carlson), who wed last season, now have
a baby daughter, Jenna. They, too, descend upon Los Angeles,
shrouded in the anguish of addiction. The new season of
nip/tuck will explore Sean and Christian’s
struggles for success in a city where they
are professionally unknown — and its
residents yearn for fame.
OCT 30
Season five of nip/tuck stars six series regulars: Dylan Walsh,
Julian McMahon, Joely Richardson, John Hensley, Roma Maffia
and Kelly Carlson. The season will feature many guest stars
including Oliver Platt, Lauren Hutton, Bradley Cooper, Paula
Marshall, Portia de Rossi, Jennifer Coolidge, Craig Bierko,
Daphne Zuniga, Tia Carrere and John Schneider. Rosie O’Donnell
will also guest star, reprising her season four role as lottery
winner “Dawn Budge.” Additionally, Leslie Grossman reprises
her season one role as former patient “Bliss Berger.”
nip/tuck was the #1 scripted drama series on basic cable among
Adults 18-49 in 2004, 2005 and 2006. First-run episodes of
season four averaged 3.9 million total viewers and 2.8 million
Adults 18-49. In a weekly four-telecast cume, it averaged 7.6
million total viewers and 5.4 million Adults 18-49.
nip/tuck won the 2005 Golden Globe® Award for Best Drama
Series and was nominated for the same award in 2004. The
series has received three back-to-back Emmy® Award nominations
for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup and won the award in
2004. Joely Richardson received back-to-back Golden Globe®
nominations for Best Actress in a Drama Series in 2004 and
2005. Julian McMahon received a Golden Globe® nomination
for Best Actor in a Drama Series in 2005.
nip/tuck was created and is executive produced by Ryan
Murphy, who continues to write and direct several episodes.
Michael M. Robin is executive producer. It is produced by
The Shephard/Robin Company in association with Warner
Bros. Television Productions Inc. The series is filmed in
Hollywood, California.

JOHN
LANDGRAF
John Landgraf was named President and General Manager
of FX Networks in May 2005, overseeing all programming
and business operations for FX and FOX Movie Channel.
Landgraf first joined FX as President of Entertainment in
January 2004.
Under Landgraf’s direction, FX’s viewership
has reached all-time highs. The network
currently ranks #5 in basic cable in delivery
of its target audience of Adults 18-49. In
January 2007, FX averaged more primetime
18-34 and 18-49 viewers than in any other
month in its 13 year history. The channel
has positioned itself to continue that growth
throughout the rest of 2007 and beyond
with the strategy propelled by new and
returning original series as well as a stronger
lineup of acquired movies.
Landgraf has made significant creative
contributions to the network’s existing
original series, including the Emmy®
and Golden Globe® Award winning
series The Shield and nip/tuck. He joined
the network at a critical time, just after
it placed an order for Rescue Me, starring
Denis Leary. He took the lead network
role in the creative supervision of that
series, sparking additional work on the
pilot, and he worked closely with Leary
and Peter Tolan on the development of the
series. The show launched seven months
after Landgraf’s arrival and became FX’s
third hit drama series.
FX premiered two drama series in
early 2007: Dirt, starring Courteney Cox,
premiered in January, while The Riches
starring Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver
48
¬
n i p/ t u c k
premiered March. In September, FX
premiered the third season of It’s Always
Sunny in Philadelphia; and in the fall the
network will premiere the third season
of its reality program 30 Days.
FX’s newest original series, Damages,
starring Emmy Award winning actress
Glenn Close, premiered July 24th. The
character-driven legal thriller, which
provides a view into the true nature of
power and success, follows the turbulent
lives of Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) the
nation’s most revered and reviled highstakes litigator and her bright, ambitious,
young protégé Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne)
as they become embroiled in a class action
lawsuit targeting the allegedly corrupt
Arthur Frobisher (Ted Danson), one
of the country’s wealthiest CEOs. The
series was created by Todd A. Kessler,
Glenn Kessler and Daniel Zelman, and
is produced by Sony Pictures Television
and FX Productions. Allen Coulter
(Hollywoodland) directed the pilot.
Landgraf initiated FX’s most ambitious
slate of primetime original programming
ever. He expanded the network’s original
fare across all genres by launching new
comedy and unscripted series. He was
responsible for the development of such
critically acclaimed programs as the
Steven Bochco-Chris Gerolmo Iraq War drama
Over There; the limited drama series Thief; the
single-camera comedy It’s Always Sunny in
Philadelphia; and two unscripted series: 30 Days
from Morgan Spurlock and Black. White. from
R.J. Cutler and Ice Cube.
Landgraf has been very successful in
persuading high-profile actors to work on
FX series, including Emmy and Golden Globe
Award winner Glenn Close, who took on her
first-ever series regular role for the fourth
season of The Shield; and Emmy and Golden
Globe Award winner Danny DeVito, who
returned to regular series television after
more than 20 years to co-star in the second
season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
and reprises his role as “Frank Reynolds”
in the series’ third season.
Other examples include Emmy Award winner
Andre Braugher’s starring role on Thief; and
Emmy Award winner Forest Whitaker’s costarring turn in the fifth season of The Shield.
In addition to his work on the network’s
original programming, Landgraf has been
at the forefront of groundbreaking ideas
in marketing, developing original content
to run across multiple platforms. Landgraf
approached Sony Pictures Television about
co-producing a first-of-its-kind original program
for FX’s hit series Rescue Me to promote the
series’ third season. The result was Rescue
Me 2.5, a standalone 15-minute short, which
was the first original short made available
for concurrent distribution across multiple
platforms including broadband through AOL;
cable and satellite through free video-ondemand; cellular; and outdoor electronic
billboard in New York’s Time Square.
Prior to joining FX, Landgraf was President
of Jersey Television, a company he co-founded
in 1999 along with former Jersey Films
partners Danny DeVito, Michael Shamberg
and Stacey Sher. Jersey Television developed
more than 50 primetime cable and network
television drama and comedy projects,
including the critically acclaimed series
Karen Sisco and Reno 911!.
From 1994-99, Landgraf was Vice President
of Primetime Series at NBC. A key figure in
new primetime series development, Landgraf
developed The West Wing, Profiler and Suddenly
Susan. He maintained oversight on ER, Friends,
Profiler and JAG, serving as a current executive
on those shows as well as Suddenly Susan.
