We appreciate all of the support that has been given to our YMCA since it first began in 1996. As the YMCA looks forward to 2014, we have had many blessings over the past year. We were fortunate to have received the Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits for the third year in a row. This has allowed us to make improvements to the facility including new lighting inside and out, new flooring throughout the facility, new HVAC units, new pool dehumidification, new security system, complete locker room renovation, inside of facility painted, new multi-purpose rooms, parking lot asphalt overlay, all new equipment upstairs totaling $300,000 being installed in December, new gymnastics equipment, InBody Machine, chemtrol unit for aquatics area, a new 24 passenger bus, and other items still to come! The money received for the NAP is designated for specific items and general operating expenses are not included in this. The Y has also seen a large increase in the number of people requesting scholarship assistance for their membership and/or programs. The Strong Kids, Strong Families Campaign allows the Y to turn no one away due to inability to pay full price for programs and/or memberships. Some pay less than others but everyone pays something. Be assured that the scholarship applications are carefully reviewed in strict confidence and with great thoroughness before assistance is awarded. If you know someone who would benefit from the Y and needs our scholarship assistance, please let them know of this opportunity. If you would like to make a taxdeductible donation to the Strong Kids, Strong Families Campaign, please feel free to contact me. Our goal for 2013 is $70,000. In 2014, the Y will be offering new programs including an After School Program for K-4th grade in collaboration with Marshall Public Schools. This will begin in the fall of 2014 and held at Marshall Public Schools. We are excited about the opportunity to serve more of our children in Saline County. Look for the Need Survey to be distributed in February, and you will be able to enroll your child beginning in April. The Board of Directors, staff, and I would again like to thank our loyal Y members, donors, and others in the community for their support over the past years. We look forward to continuing and furthering our service to our community over the upcoming years!
