wife Jeevie play the role of a couple trying
to buy a tuk-tuk for their daughter’s
wedding. The scene was shot in an old
building in Verulam.
The Deputy Mayor said that he would
consider acting again. “It was a very new
experience and I learnt a lot about film
production”. He said he would have loved
to play the original role he was cast for,
but, “there’s always another chance”.
The Durban city centre, Prince Edward
Street, La Mercy Beach, Peach CottageUmhlanga, Blue Lagoon and Dakota
informal settlement in Isipingo were some
of the locations used for the shoot.
But the production will do a lot more
for Durban than highlight it’s attractions
to filmgoers.
It’s already had a measurable effect on
local job creation.
Videovision’s Nilesh Singh said: “Film
productions require a host of personnel
across industries, including drivers,
security personnel, caterers, carpenters,
electricians, make-up artists, various
artisans and more.
“A vibrant film industry has a positive
effect on employment as it leads to
opportunities in a vast range of industries.
“Using Durban as a shooting location
for Mr Bones 2 has had a positive impact
on the economic development of the
region due to job creation and a significant
cash spend in excess of R12 million, with
an economic multiplier effect of more than
R60 million.
It is great for the city and will give our
economy a huge boost,” said Singh.
Durban-born actor Keith Gengadoo
who has been living in Gauteng for the past
nine years said working on Mr Bones 2 was
a dream come true. “It took me more than
20 years to get where I am, including an
honours degree in film making. I am
humbled to be part of the cast.”
He said he loved Durban and still
regarded himself as a Durbanite. “I was
forced to leave nine years ago for better
career opportunities in Johannesburg.
Durban is one of the most beautiful places
in the world.
I will probably come back home if the
opportunities allow it.
Durban has contributed to a lot of who
I am today.” Gengadoo said Durban had
everything it took to be a world-class
filming venue. “I hope international and
local film makers get a grasp of this.
Durban keeps you relaxed, which is
important for your best performance
delivery.
I guess it’s the feeling of the sea nearby
that creates the magic.”
He said Mr Bones 2 was different from
any other movie he had worked on in that
it reflected the South African way of life,
but with an international look and feel to
the production elements.
Mr Bones 2 is due for release in late
November.
