A Message From Leadership
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the 28th Annual Golf & Taste
Celebration! Donors and friends like you
are critical to the level of excellence that
Ridgeview Medical Center provides. Over
the years, Ridgeview Foundation has raised
more than $5.7 million to help provide
outstanding health care right here in our
region—thank you for all that you do to
help make that possible.
Event proceeds this year will help Ridgeview
Doug Stasek and Robert Stevens
Medical Center fund new initiatives and
expand and improve facilities to maintain Ridgeview’s legacy of outstanding
patient care. The Innovation for Generations campaign will help renovate
Ridgeview’s nearly 50-year-old medical/surgical wing and help aid in
the expansion of critical services at Ridgeview Medical Center. With the
changing face of health care and the many unknowns Ridgeview will face
in the coming years, Innovation for Generations is the greatest opportunity
to adapt at minimal expense. Thanks to the generous financial support of
our donors, we have the resources in place to provide a variety of essential
services to the patients we serve.
Thank you for joining our Golf & Taste Celebration and supporting the
Innovation for Generations campaign. Sincere thanks to all of our incredible
sponsors and volunteers.
Thank you for your continued support of Ridgeview!

Innovation for Generations Campaign
Ridgeview Foundation has embarked on a fundraising campaign that will
help Ridgeview Medical Center fund new initiatives and expand and improve
facilities to maintain Ridgeview’s legacy of outstanding patient care.
The Innovation for Generations campaign will help renovate Ridgeview’s
nearly 50-year-old medical/surgical wing and help aid in the expansion of
critical services at Ridgeview Medical Center.
From “kids to cancer” and from the “very oldest to the very youngest,” the
1963 wing is one of the most important and utilized spaces in the facility.
New patient rooms will be designed to serve as “universal rooms”—allowing
tremendous flexibility for the hospital as they will have similar layouts and
equipment, yet offer unique features to meet individual patient needs. The
expansion of Ridgeview services is part of an ongoing effort by Ridgeview
leadership to ensure that the medical center is meeting the ever-changing
needs of the patients in our region.
This much-needed renovation will include:
• State-of-the-art technologies, including a new patient-nurse
communication system.
• Decentralized nursing stations to maximize nurse proximity and
interaction with patients and families.
• Universal rooms for patients young and old.
• Renovated private patient rooms designed with a warm, healing
environment and décor, yet equipped with the latest technology to
provide advanced therapies and information.
• Office and work space available for nurses, doctors and staff.
• Gathering space for families.
• Support, education and counseling spaces.
The expansion of critical Ridgeview services will include:
• Complete redesign of Infusion Therapy suites to provide privacy and
comfort for patients and their families.
• Geriatric Mental Health Unit—a new inpatient program dedicated
to helping older adults address issues such as depression, confusion,
delirium and anxiety.

Ridgeview Foundation Giving Clubs
The Founder's Society
Ridgeview Foundation established The Founder’s
Society in 2002 to recognize Ridgeview Medical
Center’s most generous donors. Founder’s
Society members make individual commitments
of $10,000 or greater, which can be paid at
one time or through a payment program over
a period of years. There are more than 300
Founder’s Society members who cumulatively
have gifted or committed over $22 million and
Founder's Society Co-Chairs
have $3 million in outstanding pledges. These
Randy Schneewind and Tim Foster
funds have helped to build a new Emergency Department, three new operating
rooms, the Ridgeview Community Auditorium, and the Cardiac/Intensive Care
Unit. More recently, Founder’s Society funds were used to fund the Heart Center,
the Center for Women & Children including the Neonatal Care Unit, the Marie
Steiner Kelting Hospice Home, the da Vinci® Surgical System, Pediatric Integrative
Medicine–Ridgeview Specialty Clinic, and 2nd floor renovation.
Please consider making a difference in the health and well-being of our community
and be included with these compassionate donors by joining The Founder’s
Society during the Founder’s Challenge during the evening program.
Founder’s Society members have the following benefits:
• Listing of your name on The Founder’s Society donor recognition wall in the
lobby of Ridgeview Medical Center
• A uniquely designed personal gift commemorating your membership
• Personal invitations to the annual dinner and other special events
• “Insider’s updates” from the president and CEO of Ridgeview Medical Center

Legacy Society
If you’ve ever wanted to express your appreciation for Ridgeview Medical Center,
a gift made in your estate plan could be the perfect option for you. This type of
charitable gift arrangement allows you to make a gift now or after your lifetime
while enjoying financial benefits for yourself and your loved ones. To recognize
and thank the donors who have made these types of gift commitments, Ridgeview
Foundation created the Legacy Society. Enrollment in the Legacy Society is simply
a matter of advising Ridgeview Foundation of the creation of a legacy gift, such as
a bequest in a will or living trust, a charitable gift annuity, a charitable remainder
trust, or designations as beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy.
Business Partners
Throughout the year, Ridgeview Foundation conducts three high-profile events:
the Golf & Taste Celebration, Ridgeview Under the Harvest Moon and Achieving
a Healthy Balance. These events are attended by community leaders, business
leaders, area professionals, residents of our region and civic organization members.
Our Business Partners program exists to help businesses connect and collaborate
with us in a way that’s valuable to them and to Ridgeview. We understand that
becoming a corporate partner is easier if it fits into your marketing and promotion
strategy. We know business leaders want to give back to the community in which
their employees live and work. We also know that giving back should fit into your
budget. We created our Business Partners program to do just that and can tailor
it to fit your needs.
Ridgeview Friends & Family
Ridgeview Friends & Family is the largest giving club of Ridgeview Foundation,
recognizing community members and employees who support Ridgeview
Foundation with an annual gift of $100 or more, or by participating in the
Employee Giving Club. Hundreds of generous individuals choose to support
Ridgeview Medical Center’s mission to provide the highest level of health care
to its patients and families by funding Ridgeview’s annual fund. The annual fund
is the steady source of support for the most pressing needs of the hospital.
This group of committed and passionate individuals shares a common thread in
supporting Ridgeview through dedicated philanthropy.

Montrose couple appreciates the special attention
received at Ridgeview’s Birthing Center and NCU
First-time father Peter Ditsch of Montrose couldn’t
wait to see his twin sons side by side for the first
time. With his wife, Chonda, recovering from
an emergency C-section in Ridgeview’s Birthing
Center, Peter divided his time between her room
and Ridgeview’s Neonatal Care Unit (NCU), where
Braden and Blake shared a room.
Peter and Chonda Ditsch, holding
identical twins Blake and Braden,
at eight weeks.
Born at 34 weeks and weighing 4 pounds, 10 ounces
and 4 pounds, 6 ounces, respectively, Braden and
Blake were doing well but, due to jaundice, were
placed under bilirubin lights in the NCU and had IVs
to receive nutrition until they could feed on their own.
“While the boys had been together for seven-and-a-half months, immediately
following birth they had to be separate, with each twin in his own bed,” explained
Peter. “We were really excited to be able to compare our identical twins side by side
and have a ‘twins picture’ to share.”
Peter made his request to two nurses and when he returned for the twins’ next
feeding, he found their isolettes pushed together, Braden’s and Blake’s IVs and
monitoring cords carefully rearranged so the boys could be placed next to each
other just long enough to get a picture for Mom. And, when the boys were done
with their feeding and again sleeping, Peter had the photo printed and shared it
with Chonda, who kept it with her when she was recovering and not up to visiting
the NCU. It’s a photo that now adorns their family room and reminds them of the
special attention their whole family received at Ridgeview.
“We appreciated the nurses in the NCU very much,” said Chonda. “They were
surrogate moms while we weren’t there and trained us to be great parents when
we were there.”
And, with support and encouragement from everyone involved in Chonda’s and
the babies’ care, “When it was time to take the babies home, we were confident
that we could do this on our own,” Chonda said.

'Ridgeview paramedics and first responders
saved my life!'
Dwayne Ganzel survived five cardiac arrests.
The morning of Dec. 9, 2011, began like most other weekdays at Dwayne Ganzel’s home
in Delano, until he began feeling dizzy and complaining of aching arms. His condition
quickly escalated to extreme pain radiating from his elbow through his chest and his
wife called 9-1-1.
Fortunately for Ganzel, Delano firefighters and Ridgeview paramedics had arrived at his
home when he went into cardiac arrest ... the first time.
Ganzel’s heart was restarted by paramedics and firefighters using a defibrillator and
chest compressions before he was transferred to the ambulance.
In the 30-minute ambulance ride to Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, the
50-year-old Ganzel went into cardiac arrest a second time just one mile out of Delano.
And, he went into cardiac arrest a third, fourth and fifth time before reaching the
hospital. For the duration of the ride, paramedics were in constant communication with
the emergency physicians who were anticipating Ganzel’s arrival. Advanced diagnostic
tools on board provided physicians with the information they needed to determine a
course of care well before Ganzel arrived.

At a Glance:
Shortly after he arrived at the hospital, Ganzel underwent a procedure to have two stents
inserted to open up an artery that was 100 percent blocked. He recovered in the hospital
for eight days, with only two being in intensive care. “Even though I had a dramatic entry,
stents are pretty standard, so my recovery was much easier than someone who may
have had open heart surgery,” explained Ganzel.
Upon his return home, Ganzel participated in cardiac rehab at Ridgeview Medical Center
to regain heart function on a gradual, monitored basis, and to learn more about caring
for his heart. He said the sessions helped him regain confidence that he could be active
without worrying about having another heart attack.
“I had the ultimate warning and came out virtually unscathed,” he said, and credits
those who arrived at his home after the 9-1-1 call. “The surgeons told me that ‘your first
responders saved your life, literally.’”
