2015 Annual Dinner and Auction
2015 Annual Dinner and Auction
Good Times, Great Donors!
A good time was had by all at the
2015 Annual Dinner and Auction.
Not only did the event attract
over 150 people, we raised over
$28,000 - a record amount!
WCC
We tried something new in 2015
and moved our Annual Dinner to
the Morris Lawrence Auditorium
Atrium at Washtenaw Community
College, which provided not only
the large, airy atrium that
overlooked a scenic pond and
park area but the evening’s food
menu. While not much more was
required in terms of ambiance,
yellow mums on each table and
strategically placed works of art
helped brighten the room in
keeping with the evening’s Great
Works of Art theme.
upon. It also had many old
favorites, including golf packages,
tours,
classes,
and
gift
certificates.
Live Auction
An assortment of new and
interesting items auctioned off by
exuberant auctioneer Kenny
Lindsay helped make Friends In
Deed’s new live auction a big
success. Out of the eight items
auctioned by Kenny, the two
most popular were a tour of
Metro Airport’s control tower and
radar room and a chef-catered
meal for four served at the
winning bidder’s home.
Fund the Mission
Kenny’s vivaciousness helped amp the
size and number of donations pledged
during Fund the Mission, an opportunity
given at the end of the live auction for
participants to pledge money to help
low-income people with their utility bills
during the summer months.
While the goal for Fund the Mission was
$5,000, Kenny fired up the bidding to
$8,000! Amazing!
Silent Auction
The art theme continued into the
Silent Auction, which had plenty
of paintings, photographs, quilts,
and art classes available to bid

Grace Wu and Bill Holmes celebrate
her winning the Metro Airport tour.
Much was new at the 2015 Annual Dinner, including a new location and a live auction.
Honored
We honored several of our volunteers
and supporters with service awards at
the 2015 Annual Dinner. Volunteer of
the Year Bill Mahler received the Joanne
Kooyers Award for compassion and
caring. St. Francis of Assisi Parish
received the Robert H. Burandt Award
for extraordinary commitment and
service to Friends In Deed and the
community. James S. Johnson
posthumously received the Stan
Harbison Award for sharing his “love,
time, resources, and skills” to help
people in need.
