About Cascades Academy
Cascades Academy is a non-profit, college preparatory, independent school located in Bend, Oregon.
The school was founded in 2003 in response to the need for an independent school option for the Central Oregon
community. We offer small classes from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, weaving together a curriculum of
challenging academics, creative arts, cultural experiences, outdoor education and service learning. Our talented and
dedicated faculty find the right balance of challenge and support for each student, and our intimate learning environment
allows each student to achieve his or her individual potential while developing a love of learning, critical thinking skills, and
an understanding of the importance of service to the community.
Our annual auction, formerly known as the “Pop Quiz”, has been an integral part of Cascades Academy’s fundraising
efforts since 2004. This event provides fundamental support for the operation of the school and allows us to offer our
Flexible Tuition Program to approximately one third of our families. Your contributions tonight will help us maintain and
grow our outstanding experiential learning program and offer an exceptional educational experience to our talented and
deserving students.

An auction within the auction, this fun game rewards the
top-bidding table with first pick of a dessert for their table to
share. All other tables (ranked highest to lowest bid) will follow
with their dessert choices.

General Auction Rules
All purchased services and experiences must be used within one year of the auction unless otherwise specified. It is the buyer’s
responsibility to give attention to the expiration dates of all purchases. All arrangements for services shall be mutually resolved
by donor and buyer, not by Cascades Academy. All items are sold as is, and all sales are final. There will be no refunds or
exchanges except where noted.
A bid number will be assigned to each registered individual or couple. Use of this bid number constitutes a legal contract to
purchase. The closing bid number written on the Silent Auction Bid Sheet and circled by the auction staff constitutes the winning
bid. Guests may bid on Live Auction items by raising their paddles showing their bid number and receiving recognition from the
auctioneer. The top bid recognized by the auctioneer constitutes a legal contract to purchase the item.
Cascades Academy reserves the right to add or withdraw, without notice, items to or from the auction.
Payment and Merchandise Claim
Payment in full is mandatory on the night of the auction. Payment by cash or check is preferred as it saves the school 3% in
banking fees. Cascades Academy accepts VISA and MasterCard. We respectfully request that you present your credit card to
the cashier when checking in and receiving your bid number as this will expedite the checkout process at the end of the evening.
If you presented your credit card at check in, you may take advantage of our Auto-Checkout and leave without checking out.
You can collect your items and receipt the following week at Cascades Academy. Otherwise, all items must be collected after
checking out with the cashiers. Please plan to take all items home with you at the end of the evening, unless you have made
specific arrangements with the cashiers.

Instructor Certification) certified. Spend a few hours with Lindsey
and take your riding to a whole new level. With a focus on teaching
riders how to master the skills required to tackle tricky maneuvers,
Lindsey will help you understand balance in an entirely new way.
Join her on July 8, 2014 from 2pm to 5pm at the Seventh Mountain
Resort for a private clinic to improve your mountain biking skills. All
levels welcome. 14 spots available.

416. 4 Peaks Music Festival
The 4 Peaks Music Festival was born as a musical vision of 4
friends who had a desire to bring great music and a festival vibe to
Bend. Each year they strive to bring great acts to Central Oregon
and create a community of artists and attendees. This year’s
festival will be held June 20 - 22, 2014. Included in this fun package
are a pair of weekend passes plus parking and camping along with
a swag bag. In addition you take home a one of a kind autographed
poster from all of the 2013 bands.

Bend Golf and Country Club features over 7000 yards of
spectacular signature holes and fairways lined with majestic
Ponderosa pines. This is the place to enjoy that perfect round of

10 lucky incoming 1st - 5th graders can experience the talents
of Dr. Eklund and Ms. Hart this summer as they host a Summer
Science Party at Cascades Academy. Spend 2.5 hours of fun
exploring the world of science! Date to be determined by all parties.
424. Steelhead Dreams
This is a dream package for the fly fisher. One day guided drift boat
fly-fishing trip for 2 by Orvis certified guide Brandon Bischof. Choose
to drift the Deschutes River for trout or steelhead and/or the John
Day River for smallmouth bass or steelhead. Brandon will provide all
equipment including waders if needed, gourmet lunch, flies, and car
shuttle. You can use your new Orvis graphite Access Freshwater 4
weight rod (eight and one half foot-4 piece) with a gold Access midarbor reel and floating line. Don’t forget to bring your new fly box

1. 2nd Grade Abstract Relief Collages
Inspired by the found object assemblage art of Louise Nevelson.
Each 2nd grade student has designed a black abstract relief collage
using cut cardboard and wood pieces, highlighted with a subtle
color they laid over the black to bring contrast to their piece. Sure
to be a showstopper piece in your home!
2. Live Alpaca
ou can have a well trained adorable alpaca of your very own.
Y
Alpacas are friendly, social, gentle, and curious herd animals that
produce one of the highest quality fibers in the world. They also make
great pets, are good for obstacle courses, and act as amazing lawn
mowers. Your new family member can stay on the Flying Dutchman
Alpaca Ranch, for a fee, if you do not have room for grazing.
3. UPPER SCHOOL Winter in Bend
The upper school students ventured out around Bend this winter
to take a variety of photos of landscapes, buildings, and distinctive
objects. Each student’s unique perspective is reflected in their
choice of subject. Combining their photos into this one of a kind
poster captures the cold, snowy feel of our beautiful city in winter.

5. 7TH & 8TH GRADE Tree Rings Art Wall
The painted rings in this wall art signify the 7th-8th graders’ journey
through school. As the tree shows age by rings in the wood,
the middle school took color and painted vibrant rings on wood
to represent their education and growth. Their finished work is
beautifully displayed in a natural wood frame.
6. Kihei, Maui
Enjoy 4 nights in Kihei, Maui at Hale Ho’Omaha. This fully furnished
1 bedroom, 1 bath suite includes a complete kitchen and a lovely
lanai with a barbecue for outdoor cooking. Beach chairs, towels,

7. 3rd grade Holiday Classics
The 3rd grade class designed and painted this unique Christmas
themed collection of 8 dinner and salad/dessert plates. Each child
painted their version of a Christmas tree - truly a one of a kind place
setting for the holidays.

Portland Trailblazer Tickets for the April 4th, 2014, game versus the
Phoenix Suns. Park yourself and a friend on the floor, center court,
to watch the Blazers beat the Suns! Enjoy free parking while you
cheer the Blazers to victory.
9. 4TH & 5TH GRADE Chihuly
This piece of art created by the 4th and 5th graders, takes it’s
inspiration from the artist, Dale Chihuly, who creates amazing
pieces of glass with glorious color, opacity and transparency. Using
geometric shapes of plastic, colored Sharpie pens, hot and cold
water, paper clips and their hands, the students created multiple
pieces of plastic that were then glued to create a three-dimensional
piece that is similar to Chihuly’s original art.

11. 1st Grade Knitted for Babies
Once again Mrs. Rice’s 1st grade class has created an amazing
work of art with their finger spiral knitted blanket. Knitted with love,
this blanket will be donated to Grandma’s House by the winner!
Included with the blanket is an inspirational video documenting the
1st graders’ process.

12. “Gleam” by artist whitney nye
Original art by Whitney Nye, a visual artist based in Portland,
Oregon. Her work is deeply affected by the texture, hues and
sensations of the world that surrounds her. Working in different
mediums, Nye’s thematic approach consistently examines patterns
of repetition. She explores the rhythms and pauses of our natural
world, becoming a conduit for their character. Travel of all kinds is a
key influence and source of inspiration. She is represented by the
Laura Russo Gallery in Oregon and exhibits nationally as well. Oil
and glass on wood; 24” x 24”.
13. Kindergarten Thumbprints
The kindergarteners used each of their thumb prints to create
this fun representation of Bend’s familiar landscapes including
the smokestacks at Old Mill, Mt. Bachelor, and the Three Sisters.
This masterpiece is finished off with a forest green mat border and
beautiful caramel colored frame.

Our very own Pre-K students have painted bright suns all over this
silver trimmed whitewashed trunk. Their adorable artwork makes
this a very happy piece. Fill this versatile trunk with gardening tools
for your garden, your child’s toys, or donate it back to Ms. Kris’s
Pre-K classroom.

19. 6TH GRADE Pinwheel Quilt
Through the practical application of geometry, the 6th grade
students used fractions to measure, cut, and sew this stunning
quilt. Students explored triangle relationships and attributes as they
worked with a triangle pattern to create the pinwheel effect. Each
student chose their fabric and cut and sewed at least one pattern
block of the quilt. Students participated in every step of the decision
making process, from the color scheme of the quilt (our school
colors!) to the final layout.
