ON THE COVER :
Children form a nearby village waiting for their Polio inoculation

RI PRESIDENT’S THEME
“In 2008-09, I will ask Rotarians
everywhere to focus on the most
precious resource of every community:
our children. “
Excerpts from the full text:
A hallmark of Rotary service has always been
Rotarians’ commitment to doing what needs
to be done. And the participation of our entire
network of clubs, along with the support of TRF,
has allowed us to commit to our primary and
most ambitious goal: the global eradication of
polio.
When choosing our service projects, we do
our best to work in ways that will have the
most positive, and most lasting, impact. But to
ensure a better world for many generations,
we must begin by taking care of our youngest
generation. This is why, in 2008-09, I will ask
Rotarians everywhere to focus on the most
precious resource of every community: our
children.
Every child deserves the chance at a healthy life.
Unfortunately, every day, some 30,000 children
under the age of five die from preventable
causes like pneumonia, measles, and malaria
while thousands die every day from lack of clean
water. And many more die from a combination
of factors, in which malnutrition and poverty
play major roles.
most work must be done. Even in the wealthiest
countries, there are children without access to
medical care. And in every part of the world,
children still face the threat of polio - and remain
at risk until we keep our promise of making the
world polio-free.
For the last few years, RI’s emphases are on
projects in health and hunger, water, and
literacy. I plan to keep these three emphases
but to ask the entire family of Rotary to make a
special effort to focus on projects that will make
a difference in the lives of children. Safe drinking
water, good nutrition and the ability to read and
write gives a child a better chance at raising the
next generation in prosperity and health.
Rotary is a truly global network of volunteers. Our
structure allows us to partner with clubs around
the world to tackle a goal as ambitious as a
reduction in the child mortality rate - but only
if we work together. If we take full advantage
of our own resources, and those available to us
through other clubs and our Rotary
Foundation, then we will have the potential to
make a real difference - and to Make Dreams
This is why the RI theme for 2008-09 is Make
Real for the world’s children.
Dreams Real. Food and water, health care and
schooling, the chance at a long and full life - this
is the unrealized dream of too many children.
Dong Kurn (D.K.) Lee

MESSAGE
Dong Kurn (D. K.) Lee
President RY 2008-09
Dear President-elect:
It is my pleasure to congratulate you on your installation to the office of
2008-09 President.
You are here because, like me, you believe in Rotary and the positive
changes it creates in our world. We know that by working together, we
can achieve greater good than by working alone. We know that united
in Rotary, we can Make Dreams Real for all of the world’s children by
reducing the rate of child mortality.
We must provide hope and a chance at a future for all children, both in
our local communities and in communities far away, because without
Rotary, every day children’s needs are going unmet. This is why I am
asking you to use the knowledge you have acquired in recent years
working with water, health and hunger, and literacy to do the most good
we can to improve the lives of children around the globe, and inspire
other Rotarians to do the same.
As you perform your duties throughout the year, remember that it is
our job to open all eyes to these needs. We must develop projects that
make sure children have clean water, improved overall health, and the
opportunity to go to school. We must work together, one club with
another, to do what is needed.
Please join me this year in Making Dreams Real by beginning to turn
safe and happy childhoods into long and healthy lives.
Sincerely,
Dong Kurn (D.K.) Lee

Distinguished Guests and Fellow Rotarians
Welcome to all who are gathered here today for this auspicious occasion,
the 18th Installation of the Board of Directors for the Rotary Club of
Kelana Jaya. My appreciation and thanks to all those involved in the
organization of this evening’s function.
From the beginning, a year’s journey seem to be very long but when responsibilities starts rolling, time just flies like a race. At last the
chequered flag was waved at the finishing line on 30 June. I have
benefited from the advice of our Past Presidents and the support given
by my members as well as its spouses and family in terms of words or
hands on support in all my endeavours and projects that are carried out
throughout my tenure as President.
Last but not least, I would like to thank our Sister clubs, the Rotary Clubs
of Bang Rak, Bangkok and Taipei Bak Hai for their support in our joint
projects. This has indirectly proven that we can work together to foster
international understanding and goodwill.
Without all these support whether mentally, morally, time, energy and
financially, I would not have been able to uphold this past year’s Rotary
theme “ROTARY SHARES”. Now let me past the baton to President David
Goh and his team in their endeavours to bring the club to greater heights
to “MAKE DREAMS REAL”.
Thank you.
Yours Sincerely,
Josephine Pang PHF

MESSAGE
David Goh PHF
President RY 2008-09
It is a indeed a special privilege for me to be installed as the 18th
President of the Rotary Club of Kelana Jaya. I am honored to be given
the opportunity by my fellow members to serve and hopefully together, we are able to “Make Dreams Real” for the under privileged and those
who are less fortunate in our community.
IPP Josephine has put in a tremendous job of ‘Sharing Rotary’ with her
fellow members as well as successfully implementing various projects
for the benefit of the community in needs. It will be a tough act to follow,
however, my Board of Directors and I will try our best to continue her
good work and hopefully to carry out new projects which will reflect the
aspirations of RI President D K Lee to “Make Dreams Real” especially for
children and to work with him towards the Rotary dream of a happier,
healthier and a more peaceful world.
With our limited resources, we can only dream of the Herculean task
of making any impact towards the millions who dream of food, good
health, clean water and schooling. However, if we can make a difference
in the lives of the few in the community within our means, it will be
suffice to make part of their dream real.
This year, with the help of our sponsors, we will continue with projects
such as the Free Outpatient Clinic and Medical Outreach that has been
faithfully followed through the years by Past Presidents and their
Board of Directors. At the same time, with the approval of the Board
and members of the club, we shall be implementing various projects
benefiting selected homes for the physically challenged and orphans.
Members, the pillar of any clubs or organization will be the main focus
during this Rotary year. Without them, no projects will be able to be
implemented successfully and we will have concerted effort to strengthen
fellowship as well as to induct new members. Our guest nights will be a
permanent feature in our regular meetings and members’ contributions
by inviting their friends is of utmost importance.
Lastly, I must thank my Directors who had agreed to serve on the Board
and I shall look forward to the support of the PPs and members of this
club to make my year as the President a successful and memorable one.
Yours in Rotary,

On behalf of all fellow members of Rotary Club of Taipei Bak Hai I would

We have successfully implemented several Community Services and

equip a poor and football loved team there in January 2008. It proves
again we, as members of The Rotary International Family, have worked
and served together in an attempt to achieve world peace and world
commonwealth as well.
IPP Josephine Pang has had great achievement in the Rotary year of
“Share Rotary”. We share our time, our talents, our expertise, our money
to successfully carry out project that tackle a vast range of Humanitarian

FOC Anniversary

and soft toys which we brought along.
Our FOC celebrated its 13th Anniversary this
Rotary year on 19 October, 2007. Rtn Shanti was
the organizing chairperson and had organized
for us a sumptuous selection of food, desserts
and drinks. Among the VIPs who attended was
PDG Ariff who officiated during the opening
ceremony 12 years ago. Our partners in service, Flood Relief in Temerloh
Pan Malaysian Pools were also represented.
December was a low point for many residents
in Pahang as torrential rain created massive
