Marti’s Message
Dear Club Members & Friends:
February was packed with so much to do! Our annual reports
were completed and sent to GFWC. Bett provided us with a terrific program that was the highlight of our club Birthday Celebration. Congratulations to Dorothy Dunn, as she was named District 13 Volunteer of the Year. She and Sou Peng will represent
our District at the April GFWC Florida Annual Convention.
The sun shone on our Founders' Days Parade. We had a good
time decorating our two cars, riding and waving to all the people.
Our cars were dynamite! Umbrellas of the special things in Deerfield Beach, Our Paradise, were colorfully displayed along with
flip-flops that showed our Journey Through Paradise. Colorful
balloons floated from the windshields and danced up and down to
the music. Thanks so much to everyone who participated in the
parade: Debbie Rollo, Arts Chair, her granddaughter, Mattie, and
friend rode in the yellow Mustang with my friend Bettina Bachman, who volunteered to drive. Dorothy Dunn, Mickey
Rosenkranz , and Pauline DiNoto rode with me.. Cross Fabrizio,
Liam McGeary, & Bryce Kurek proudly carried our banner.
Thanks, Sally Coleren, for your Mini. Others who helped with
decorations were, Susie Mustafa, Mary
McKenna, and Maureen Kenny. Next year
don't miss this fun activity!
Busy days are ahead of us, so please read
your newsletter carefully, & mark your calendars so you don't miss out on anything.
See you March 12! Thanks for all you do!

TOXIC HANDBAGS
Microbiologist Amy Karen of Nelson Labs says nearly all of the handbags tested were not only high in
bacteria, but high in harmful kinds of bacteria.
Pseudomonas can cause eye infections, staphylococcus aurous can cause serious skin infections,
and salmonella and e-coli found on the handbags could
make people very sick.
In one sampling, four out of five handbags tested
positive for salmonella, and that's not the worst of it.
'There is fecal contamination on the handbags' says Amy.
Leather or vinyl handbags tended to be cleaner than cloth
handbags, and lifestyle seemed to play a role. People with children tended to have dirtier handbags
than those without. Experts say you should think of
your handbag the same way you would a pair of shoes.
"If you think about putting a pair of shoes on your countertops, that's the same thing you're doing when you put
your handbag on the countertop.
Bottom Line: Wash cloth handbags frequently, clean
leather & plastic with recommended cleaners often.
