John 20:1-9 Denise Kasischke Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!" So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus' head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen. Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) Anthem "When in Our Music God is Glorified" Anthem "Rejoice With Me!" Sunshine Singers and Sanctuary Choir Children’s Story Live again our glorious King, Alleluia! Where, O death, is now thy sing? Alleluia! Once He died, our souls to save, Alleluia! Where’s thy victory, boasting grave? Alleluia! Scripture Reading Scripture John 20:10-18 Cherise Gardner Then the disciples went back to their homes, but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. They asked her, "Woman, why are you crying?" "They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him." At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. "Woman," he said, "why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?" Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him." Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni!" Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' " Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: "I have seen the Lord!" And she told them that he had said these things to her. C.V. Stanford, arr. H. Hopson “Crown Him with Many Crowns” Crown Him with many crowns, The Lamb upon His throne; Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns All music but its own! Awake, my soul, and sing Of Him who died for thee; And hail Him as thy matchless King Through all eternity. Crown Him the Lord of love! Behold His hands and side, Those wounds, yet visible above, In beauty glorified; No angel in the sky Can fully bear that sight, But downward bends his wondering eye At mysteries so great. Crown Him the Lord of peace! Whose hand a scepter sways From pole to pole, that wars may cease, And all be prayer and praise; His reign shall know no end, And round His pierced feet Fair flowers of Paradise extend, Their fragrance ever sweet. Crown Him the Lord of years, The Potentate of time, Creator of the rolling spheres, Ineffably sublime! All hail! Redeemer, hail! For Thou hast died for me; Thy praise shall never, never fail Throughout eternity. V. Wright Denise Kasischke No. 223 Scripture John 20:19-22 Leif Lind On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Hymn of Adoration "Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven" No. 4 Jesus showed himself to these men after his death, and gave ample proof that he was alive: Over a period of forty days he appeared to them and taught them about the Kingdom of God. While he was in their company he told them not to leave Jerusalem. “You must wait,” he said, “for the promise made by my Father, about which you have heard me speak: “John, as you know, baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit, and within the next few days.” So, when they were all together, they asked him, “Lord, is this the time when you are to establish once again the sovereignty of Israel?” Praise Him for His grace and favor To our fathers in distress; Praise Him, still the same forever, Slow to chide and swift to bless; Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia Glorious in His faithfulness. When he had said this, as they watched, he was lifted up, and a cloud removed him from their sight. As he was going, and as they were gazing intently into the sky, all at once there stood beside them two men in white who said, Tenderly He shields and spares us; Well our feeble frame He knows; In His hands He gently bears us, Rescues us from all our foes: Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia Widely as His mercy flows. Anthem Blessing Call for Offering Michael Quishenberry Praise, my soul, the King of heaven; To His feet thy tribute bring; Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, Who like thee His praise should sing? Praise Him, praise Him, alleluia, Praise the everlasting King. He answered, “It is not for you to know the dates and times, which the Father has set within his own control. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will bear witness for me in Jerusalem, and all over Judea and Samaria, and away to the ends of the earth.” “Men of Galilee, why stand there looking up into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken away from you up to heaven, will com in the same way as you have seen him go.” Closing Hymn Angels, help us to adore Him: Ye behold Him face to face; Sun and moon bow down before Him: Dwellers all in time and space, Praise Him, Praise Him, alleluia, Praise with us the God of grace. Offertory Responsive Reading "Tuba Tune in D Major" Kemp Smeal, organ “O Clap Your Hands” J. All people that on earth do dwell, Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice; Him serve with mirth, His praise forth tell, Come ye before Him and rejoice. 4.
