Dear Parent/Caregiver,
The Middle School students were challenged to take part in next year’s City2Surf in a
mass run for charity. Korrin, a quadruple amputee, who gave an incredibly motivating
address to the assembly on Friday is the ambassador for You Move Me, a charity which
provides prosthetic limbs for disadvantaged amputees in Bolivia.
Ms. Boulstridge introduced founder of the charity, Mike Britton, who also provided a
‘workout’ session for students on Tuesday. The 22 students who braved the rainy
weather enjoyed the training and are committed to continue the theme of You Move Me
by being active.

Well done to all the Reddam students and staff who got involved in City2Surf this year.
Victoria Richards (Year 8) entered for the first
time and did the 14 km run in a fantastic time of 1
hour 48 minutes and 35 seconds. Congratulations Victoria!

Markus Zusak, author of The Book Thief attended
the Senior School assembly. The Year 8 students
who are currently reading his book as a set work also
enjoyed the privilege of being in this fantastic assembly.
Chelsea Slender performed her monologue crafted
from his book and both were enjoyed immensely by all
the students.
On Monday evening the Music Department held its annual Composition Evening. We were joined
by Dr Matthew Orlovich as the adjudicator. Matthew had some very encouraging and informative
comments to make about our students' compositions and was very impressed with the standard of
works performed.
In the Year 5 to Year 8 Section a Highly Commended was awarded to Liam Wright for his trumpet
work; 3rd Place was awarded to Kai Mashimo for his Jazz Piano composition; 2nd Place went to
Sacha Styles for his composition on Electric Bass and the top prize was awarded to Joseph Newton for his Piano work, 'Rovina'.
In the Senior Section the range of music was very broad, with works for piano, film scores, vocal
works and chamber compositions, including string quartets and a trio. Highly Commended awards
went to Jono Karney for his song 'Annoying Neighbours'; Jamie Riesin for his Jazz Piano work 'A
Conversation' and Olivia Mair's HSC Core String Quartet composition, 'Memoir Pastoral'.
The places were a difficult decision for the adjudicator as the standard was incredibly high - he
awarded 3rd Place to Tamon Mashimo for his film score to the open credits of the Japanese animation film, 'Kaze No Tani No Nausicaa'; 2nd Place went to Alan Tsibulya for his HSC Core String

English Ext. 2
The eight Extension 2 students who presented their major works on Wednesday
evening astounded their parents and teachers alike with the maturity and quality of
their work.
A movie, a number of short stories, a play script, an anthology of poetry, a number
of critical essays and a piece of performance poetry made up the evening.
We congratulate the students on their outstanding effort and thank their mentors
from the English department for a job very well done.

You Move Me
On Tuesday 12th August, 24 students from Years 7 and 9 and several brave teachers attended the fitness session organised in aid of You Move Me, one of the charities Middle
School students are raising funds for this term. Cameron Gerrie, from Evolution to Wellbeing, generously gave his time for free in order to instruct the motley crew and ensure everyone got a great workout, had lots of fun and learnt about or improved on technique and
form. There were some sore legs on Wednesday!
A total of $331.15 was raised and every penny will go straight to You Move Me, to help an
amputee in Bolivia get a prosthetic limb fitted. More fundraising for this worthy cause will
continue throughout the term so please keep checking the newsletter for details and be
ready to give generously.

role science plays in the world around us.
All questions are aligned with the Australian Curriculum: Science. The competition

Students interested in US college admission
Students wishing to complete undergraduate study in the USA must, as part of their
application, supply results from an ACT or SAT exam. The PSAT is a practice test
which allows students an opportunity to prepare for these American exams. The
PSAT is designed for students in Year 10 and Year 11 and gives students the chance
to receive feedback about their strengths and weaknesses. The results are not reported to US schools. The PSAT is only given once a year and registration is now
open. This year it will be held on Saturday, October 18th at 8am at St Vincent’s College, Potts Point.
The PSAT lasts approximately three hours. It consists of three areas: Critical Reading (two 25 minute sections), Maths (two 25 minute sections, and Writing (30 minutes)
and gives students the chance to sit the test under controlled conditions. A full score
report is sent to each student with a breakdown of his/her results.
To register for the PSAT, please log on to http://www.trybooking.com/EHNE. Registration will close on 14 October or when the test seating is full. The demand for the
test has been above capacity for the last several years so I encourage you to sign up
early to avoid disappointment.
