October 23rd – October 29th VS Fall time in the upstate is a magical place! 1 Employee Appreciation Fund TO: All independent Living Residents FROM: Your Resident Advisory Council As you know there is a “no tipping” policy here at The Cascades. The staff does so much to make our lives pleasant, and we do have a way to acknowledge and thank them. Once a year we can show our appreciation by making a pre-Christmas gift to the Employee Appreciation Fund. Your Resident Council will divide the funds received among only hourly employees such as housekeeping, dining services, drivers, concierge, maintenance and activities staff. The amount they receive is based upon how many hours each employee worked during the year. Funds will be divided 75% to Independent Living hourly employees and 25% to Linville hourly employees. You may designate where you want your gift to go if you desire a different contribution. We are often asked, “How much should I give?” After careful consideration, your Council suggests an appropriate gift of $500.00 or more per person. This equates to $1.37 per day for the services we receive. We ask that you place your check in a sealed envelope marked “Employee Appreciation Fund” and place it in the mailbox on the wall by the Administrative office (near the Concierge.) Your gift can be made any time before November 15th, 2016. Individual checks will be prepared and distributed to all qualifying employees at our Employee and Member meeting on December 2nd, 2016, at 3:30pm. We hope you will mark your calendars and come to experience the gratitude of our employees as they receive their checks and express their thanks. This photo is an exception that illustrates an old adage; “if you look closely, there is some good to be found in everything”. This is poison ivy, one of the early and brighter reds in the fall pallet. Although I have never seen the stream run dry, the current drought, if it persists, will certainly challenge the minnows in their pools. While the water level is down, we are offered an opportunity to observe the depth of its carved path cutting through the woods. I’m sure it was here long before us and its springs along the way offered many uses for the natives and settlers. The trail surface is currently very nice. We hope that when the rains come, they will be gentle. Just a reminder that if you are not sure where to get help for ANYTHING, please call or email me. I am here to help you and guide you to the right source and can help you figure out needs. Some things you may need to ask about are: help with running errands, need for a Nurse, a shot someone should give you, wound care, help with showering, laundry etc. Also, please keep in mind that I bring several health providers here on site for your convenience, they are: *Audiologist *Podiatrist *Dietitian AND we have onsite outpatient therapy services here at the Cascades. You can call me with questions about these services anytime. Many are prescheduled and I can tell you when that will take place. ***If you are newer to our campus and you feel ready to initiate some wellness/fitness activity, please call me directly and we will agree on a day to meet for an assessment. This entails filling out health-related paperwork, which usually is handed out to folks by marketing upon moving. I don’t know when some of you are settled and “unboxed”, it’s best for you to let me know.*** Wellness seminar: I will be announcing our November wellness seminar over the next couple weeks. New topic, new interest, great education for all Please look out for a flyer from me over the next few weeks. Aleksandra #528-5526 [email protected] IMPORTANT!!! Please read. If you are new you may not know this; if you’ve been here a while, it will remind you that you can plan postoperative dressing changes and nursing care at your residence ahead of time. I have met with a representative of a local homecare agency who can provide you with nursing assistance, dressing changes etc. This requires a little bit of foresight pre-operatively. Speak with me directly as soon as you find out that you will require these services and I will go over the form with you. Most insurance plans cover this home care service, I will provide you with contact information if you’d like to call ahead. If you’ve had an emergency procedure and were sent home after and you require dressing changes, it’s not too late to get this process started. Have your family or a friend stop by and I’ll pass the application form along. If I’m not here, have the concierge email me and I’ll pass necessary information on to them. Most importantly, keep in mind that when you live in Independent living, Linville nursing staff cannot provide this service by standard regulation. Reach out to me when you are not sure what you need to do next and I’ll help best I can Aleksandra #528-5526
