Disposing of Household Hazardous Waste Most people don’t realize how many hazardous waste products they have at home. Paint, batteries, used motor oil, pesticides and herbicides are among the most common items containing dangerous chemicals found in homes. Disposal of these items requires special handling, as burying them in the ground or pouring them down storm drains or sinks can result in groundwater pollution. And since most of Florida’s drinking water comes from groundwater, improper disposal of these chemicals poses a threat to our drinking water. The City does not collect these items as part of its curbside collection program so to dispose of them safely, please bring them to either of the following locations: • Orange County Landfill, 5901 Young Pine Rd., Orlando Monday through Sunday, 8 am - 5 pm • McLeod Road Transfer Station, 5000 L.B. McLeod Rd., Orlando Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8 am - 5 pm This location does not accept electronic waste You can also dispose of household hazardous waste at collection events organized by Orange County. Here’s the schedule for this year’s events: Saturday, April 21 8 am - 3 pm Valencia Community College (West Campus) 1800 S. Kirkman Rd., Orlando Saturday, July 14 8 am - 3 pm Hunter’s Creek Middle School 13400 Town Loop Blvd., Orlando Saturday, October 20 8 am - 3 pm Orange County Services Bldg. 1111 North Rock Springs Rd., Apopka For more information, please call the Orange County Utilities Solid Waste Hotline at 407.836.6601.
