NOVEMBER 2012 / VOL 5 / ISSUE 11 2935 Lincoln Avenue Ogden, Utah 84401 THE WORD AT Choosing to be “We are servants of the wise and unwise indebted to worship, educate, proclaim and minister this fellowship of Christian faith until it covers the earth.” You’re warmly welcomed to our church, we will love to see you here, we want you to know the love of God, and feel His presence near. For you are so special to the Lord and special to us too; for your life has significance and there's purpose in what you do. ~ M.S. Kelly Mickles, Publicity Coordinator, for your article to be published in the Ogden Standard Examiner. All submissions are subject to editing for clarity and grammatical correctness. Disclaimer Please except our sincere apologies in advance for any error(s) found in this publication. Contact Sis. Betty Smauldon, Publisher, with any questions or comments at the above E-mail address. Thank You! We live in a world today where many believe whatever material possessions they have, the good health they walk in, the freedom of speech they enjoy, the liberty to go when ever or where ever they desire, the ability to worship whomever or whatever they believe and even their choice to receive salvation are all somehow owed to them without regard of the efforts and sometimes overwhelming sacrifices made by others for them to enjoy all of the aforementioned and so much more. The idea or concept of “choosing to be thankful” eludes them. They pose the question, “Why should I be thankful … I have a right to all of these things!” If they would only take the time to delve into the who, what, how and when of the innumerable blessings they enjoy, they would be clearly enlightened of how such came to be. It is a subtle snare of the enemy to keep us so busy with the activities of life that we lulled into not wanting to know or understand the liberating power, blessing and joy of “choosing to be thankful.” “Choosing to be thankful” simply means understanding the true source of all that we possess and enjoy. That source is God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit. When we come into the knowledge that our God, the divine creator of man, the universe and all it encompasses, we begin a lifelong journey of what it means to humble ourselves and be truly thankful for all we possess and experience. As we continue to receive the truth of knowing New Zion Thankful… we have been chosen by God to be good stewards of what He, the creator, has entrusted to us, then thankfulness begins to take root in our hearts. It’s oftentimes easier to choose to be thankful when we’re walking in the “mountain top” seasons of our lives. However, the true test of choosing to be thankful is when we are walking through those challenging “valley” seasons of our lives. It’s during these times that we see with our spiritual eyes, hold fast to the hope and promises of the Lord, and experience His divine faithfulness. “Choosing to be thankful” enables us to see the awesome character of God as the Holy Spirit ushers us into a deeper level of intimacy with Him. Choosing to be thankful transforms our lives motivating us to share the goodness and love of God among ourselves and with others. The calendar lets us know that November is the month to celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving. We, as Christians, should know and live each day with a thankful heart. We have so much to “choose to be thankful” for! Our salvation, the most precious gift we will ever enjoy, is one reason for our choice of thankfulness. The blood of Jesus Christ shed at Calvary, His glorious resurrection with all power, and His intercession for us at the right hand of our Heavenly Father are, indeed, cause for thankfulness. The privilege of spending eternity in the presence of the Lord should invoke an expression of thankfulness, joy and praise daily. King David assures us in Psalm 140:13 that, “Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto Thy name: the upright shall dwell in Thy presence.” What a wonderful promise for believers, those who have been made righteous through Jesus Christ, to anchor our faith now and in eternity. And for those of us who have been subtly snared with life’s busyness, be reminded of the words of the Apostle Paul, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Finally, one of the most meaningful things we can do this Thanksgiving holiday is to share with someone who has not yet accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior your reason for “choosing to be thankful” and let them know how, they too, can make the same choice. ▪ WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP LUNCHEON ▪ MISSION THANKSGIVING FOOD BOXES ▪ FALL REVIVAL/LOYALTY DAY & HARVEST FESTIVAL PHOTOS ▪ YOUNG ADULT, YOUTH & CHILDREN ▪ HAPPENINGS THIS MONTH Thanksgiving HAPPY New Zion partners with Northern Utah Coalition, Inc.
