Spike Jonze invites you to join James Murphy and filmmakers Will Lovelace & Dylan Southern at the LA Premiere of SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS THE VERY LOUD ENDING OF LCD SOUNDSYSTEM An Oscilloscope Laboratories' Release of a Pulse Films Production Produced by Lucas Ochoa Thomas Benski James Murphy Executive Produced by Christine Vachon Keith Wood The Creators Project Tuesday, July 17th 2012 7:30pm – Screening ArcLight Hollywood 6360 Sunset Blvd. (Parking structure entrance on Ivar Ave.) 9:30pm – Party Teddys at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel 7000 Hollywood Blvd. (Teddy’s entrance is off of the main lobby) On April 2nd 2011, LCD SOUNDSYSTEM played its final show at Madison Square Garden. LCD frontman James Murphy had made the conscious decision to disband one of the most celebrated and influential bands of its generation at the peak of its popularity, ensuring that the band would go out on top with the biggest and most ambitious concert of its career. The instantly sold out, near four-hour extravaganza did just that, moving the thousands in attendance to tears of joy and grief, with New York Magazine calling the event “a marvel of pure craft” and TIME magazine lamenting “we may never dance again.” SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS is both a narrative film documenting this once-in-a-lifetime performance and an intimate portrait of James Murphy as he navigates the lead-up to the show, the day after, and the personal and professional ramifications of his decision. Runtime is 105 minutes In theaters one night only/July 18th 2012 James Murphy Elijah Wood Moby Dylan Southern, Will Lovelace Thomas Benski, Lucas Ochoa David Laub, Todd Louiso Danny Masterson Justin Bartha Joe Manganiello Dominic Garcia-Lorido Paula Labaredas, Thomas Jane Michael Weston Josh Peck Ashley Bell Katia Winter John Hawkes Brian Geraghty Jenny Lewis Joe & Luke McGarry Lance Banks, Chris Holmes James Murphy, Spike Jonze Mini Anden, Taber Schroeder Elijah Wood, Moby, James Murphy Shut Up And Just Open The Coffee Shop By: Eddie Kim/Monday, July 23rd 2012 A diverse array of stars came out July 17 for the Los Angeles bow of Oscilloscope's "Shut Up and Play the Hits," which examines the end of dance-punk band LCD Soundsystem. Though it was a relaxed red carpet affair at Arclight Cinemas in Hollywood -- "Whoa, it's so mellow! Love it," chirped a pleased Elijah Wood -- the special screening hosted everyone from Wood to Moby to Spike Jonze, who left the screening grinning. The pic chronicles the band's very last, epic four-hour show at Madison Square Garden, but Danny Masterson, a "big fan" of the band, still has hope they'll return. "You know they're gonna play another show sometime," the thesp said. "Just seeing how much they love it." LCD bandleader James Murphy had other things in mind. He's moving out of his home soon, the stubbled singer said and focusing on "opening a store" with his girlfriend. And what exactly will this renaissance man be selling? "Stuff that we make and like. Luggage and furniture and things I'd like to have," Murphy said with a confident nod. Then, after a pause: "And coffee. Which we also make and like." ‘Hung’ Up On Her By: Mara Siegler/Monday, July 23rd 2012 Thomas Jane appears to have a new lady in his life. The “Hung,” star showed up barefoot for Peggy Siegal’s screening of “Shut Up and Play the Hits,” at the Hollywood Roosevelt with actress Paula Labaredas. “They were holding hands and looked close,” says a spy. Labaredas has been in films like “Showgirls 2: Penny’s From Heaven,” and keeps a Web site of bikini pics, and (thankfully) a section for poems and “thoughts.” Jane and Patricia Arquette’s divorce was finalized last year. By: Carson Griffith/Monday, July 23rd 2012 JUSTIN BARTHA has a new lady friend. A source at the Peggy Siegal Company screening of “Shut Up and Play the Hits” on Tuesday says “The Hangover 2" star “came arm-in-arm” with an unidentified pretty girl sporting “mousy hair” at ArcLight Hollywood. He and his pint-sized date arrived late to the after-party at Teddy’s at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. There, Elijah Wood was deejaying alongside Zach Cowie for a crowd that included James Murphy, Moby and Spike Jonze. We’d send our regards to Ashley Olsen, who dated Bartha until last spring, but a source close to the twin and fashion mogul tells us that “they don’t talk anymore.” Triple Threat By: Charles Thorp/Thursday, July 19th 2012 DJs Elijah Wood, Moby, and James Murphy talked music during The Peggy Siegal Company after party for the LCD Soundsystem doc Shut Up And Play The Hits at Teddy's at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in LA.
