Come Home to the Arts!
Dusk at Kodai, JOSEPH RAFFAEL
Art is an all-encompassing experience at the
Tulsa Performing Arts Center. It is found not only
on our stages, but also on our walls, overhead,
and enlivening the corridors and exterior of our
building. The PAC’s collection has created a
special niche that sets it apart from any other in
Oklahoma. Much of our art is a product of the
1970s and complements the PAC’s architecture.
The Center, which opened in 1977, is the work
of Minoru Yamasaki, who also designed Tulsa’s
BOK building and the World Trade Center
towers in New York City.
The PAC’s permanent collection is the result of
the City of Tulsa’s “one percent for art”
ordinance stipulating that one percent of all
construction costs for a public facility be
dedicated to the purchase of art for that building.
Our original collection, established during the
period from 1974 to 1976, was chosen to
highlight local and statewide talent, including
Oklahoma’s Native American art. The works of
nationally known artists as well as international
art world luminaries such as Barbara Hepworth,
Karel Appel and Louise Nevelson were also
acquired during that time. Numerous works have
been added under the guidance of the Tulsa
Performing Arts Center Trust, which has been
a caretaker of the PAC’s art throughout its
30-plus-year history. The collection currently
numbers 76 pieces.
We invite you to explore the magnificent
art that is part of every PAC visit.
