The inns along the cycle path offer a range of special services for cyclists including a large selection of cycling tours that combine culture, nature, wellness, and culinary delights – staying at an inn along the Drauradweg is therefore the ideal „base camp“ for your cycling holiday. No. 32 - 4-hut tour (Map G7, H5, I7, H7) The trail starts in Lienz and leads via the Drauradweg cycle path towards Dölsacher railway station, then turn left and ride along the old horse cart track towards the local swimming pool in Dölsach. Continue along the municipal road towards Gödnach and Görtschach, then uphill to Anna Schutzhaus (tavern), the first stop on the tour (overnight stay). Descend via the saddle between the mountains towards Stronach and Iselsberg. Then continue back uphill for about 300 m along the federal highway, before crossing the highway at the old Iselsbergstraße exit. From here turn into Debanttal valley. Follow this section of the trail to Lienzer Hütte tavern, the second stop on the tour. On the third day of the tour set out from Lienzer Hütte towards the end of the valley. Shortly before Nußdorfer Bridge head uphill to Faschingalm and then onto Zettersfeld village centre. Follow the trail downhill via Thurnerstraße towards Lienz. The path will eventually lead back uphill to your goal for the third day, Hochsteinhütte tavern. You will spend the night lower down on the mountain in Sternalm (500 altitude difference). The fourth day begins with a picturesque descent via Hochsteinstraße into the valley and along the Drauradweg cycle path. Follow the trail towards Amlach and then turn off towards Tristach. On arriving at Tristach sports centre leave the main road and follow the toboggan track uphill until Kreithof, then continue along the toll road to Dolomitenhütte tavern, the last stop on the tour. Return via the same route downhill to the sports centre, then cross the main road and continue along the Drauradweg cylce path, which takes you back to Lienz. It’s easy to assume that cycling was invented in East Tyrol: nowhere else can you find such a diverse range of terrain in such a small area as in this region of the Alps. Therefore it’s no surprise that many of Europe’s major cycling events are held in East Tyrol: the Giro d‘Italia includes a stage that runs through the region’s picturesque mountains and the most challenging part of the Tour of Austria (Internationale Österreich Radrundfahrt) runs through the village of Prägraten – famous for mountaineering – in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park.
