Graduation Checklist: Class of 2012
 Date - Check your school calendar for major end-of-year school
functions that may interfere. Keep in mind that it is wedding season too.
 Location - Most graduation parties are hosted at the home of the
graduate and offer the greatest flexibility in planning
 Time - Open-house style allows your guests to come when they can
(a plus when they may have multiple parties to attend the same day).
Typical parties last 3 hours.
 Guests - The actual number will likely fluctuate, but have an idea on
how many you can handle
 Theme/Colors - You can select a theme based on the graduate’s likes
and interest, or keep it simple and use school colors and/or mascot
 Invitations - Be sure to include maps for distant guests
 Tent Rental - Book in advance to secure your date. Depending on
your guest list, you will need to provide shelter from rain (and hot
sun) if you don’t want your guests to remain inside your home.
 Seating - Tables & chairs can be rented or you can beg, borrow &
plead with your neighbors to borrow theirs
 Decorations - Banners, balloons, centerpieces, confetti, streamers
 Lighting - If party is outdoor and runs into the evening hours, you
will need some lighting. Candles & light strands provide atmosphere.
 Paper Products - Plates, napkins, cutlery, cups, tablecloths, & toiletries

 Photo Boards - Photos of graduate with friends/family over the years
 Gift Table - Cards with money are given most to provide a safe place
tor them. Consider decorating a box or even a bird cage where guests
can slide card in.
 Sign-In Board - Sign-in boards add a little fun and provide a keepsake
for the graduate similar to the signing of year books.
 Music - Band? DJ? Cousin Vinny’s CD collection? Just be sure to
provide a varied selection to appeal to the masses
 Party Favors - Custom candy bar wrappers, M& M’s or Jelly Belly jelly
beans in your school colors.
 Disposable Cameras - Place disposable cameras on the tables and
have guests take photos at the party. Remember to collect the
cameras & later enjoy moments you may have missed.
 Video - Remember to record important guests like grandparents,
teachers and coaches. Try a theme question like “What is your favorite
memory?” Create DVDs afterwards as keepsakes.
 Beverages - Pop, water, alcohol (age permitting). Don’t forget to set
up clearly marked containers for recycling. Borrow or rent tubs for ice
to keep drinks cold.
 Food - Dare to be different! Pizza is the most popular food item for
teenagers. Mix it up and add a specialty pizza like Papa’s Select, Papa’s
Premier or a Papa’s Classic, in addition to the cheese and pepperoni pizza.
 Dessert - Graduation cupcakes are popular, but sheet cakes
accommodate larger crowds. Set up a sweet station for all extras.

Give guests white t-shirts and provide permanent markers so they can
sign each other’s shirts
• Make a time capsule. Notify guests in advance to bring something
related to their high school years and place in a box to be re-opened at
10 year reunion.
