FATIMA LETTER GOES HERE!!!!!!!!!!
Now in our 28th year, Pride Week has grown bigger and better yet again this year. With the addition of our
first ticketed event - featuring none other than Sandra Bernhard - to the multitude of new official events and
programs, Pride Week is more spectacular than ever.
We are grateful to our dedicated community partners and corporate sponsors and who truly embody the spirit
of “Unified!” Your support speaks to the increasing celebration of queer life in Canada and of Pride Week as
one of Ontario’s premiere arts and culture festivals.
Pride Week could not happen without the remarkable dedication and passion of our staff and volunteers.
Thank you to these incredibly hard working and talented people for making our organization and festival so
dynamic and unique, for generating respect and admiration both at home and around the world and enabling
Pride to be a unifying force in our communities. You are simply amazing.
Have a happy and safe Pride Week 2008!

For one night only, Sandra Bernhardt,
the Queer Diva herself, and her ban, the
Rebellious Jezebels, come to Toronto for a
special appearance for Pride Week 2008. An
electrifying fusion of lethal satire and sizzling
rock n’ roll, Sandra’s brilliant unity of hilarious
diatribes on the state of modern culture and
her classic rock attitude burns smart. And
for a lucky 100 fans, limited tickets are available for a post show champagne and desert
meet and greet reception with Sandra.

Enza Anderson, a writer,
activist and media
personality, is a transwoman who works and lives
in Toronto. Best known for
her public persona as Enza
Supermodel, and author of
The Hot Ticket social column
for Metro Toronto, she has been activist in the
LGBTTIQQ2S community, dedicating many volunteer
hours working for various organizations. However,
it’s her political ambitions have put her front and
centre. She garnered headlines in 2000 with a bid
for the city’s mayoralty using the slogan: “A Super
City Deserves A Supermodel”, and surprised many
by finishing a respectable third. In 2010, Anderson
again will campaign to seek office for Toronto
city council. In whatever capacity she is involved
in, Enza “Supermodel” Anderson exemplifies the
courage of what it’s like to be a trans-woman who
works hard to make a difference.
Motivated by his

Gareth is the recipient of the 2006 Human Rights

As long as there’s a reason… there’s a ride.
Each July, hundreds of cyclists and crew take to the
road in The Toronto People With AIDS Foundation Annual
Friends For Life Bike Rally. This volunteer run event raises
critical awareness and funds to support men, women and
children living with HIV and AIDS in Toronto. Averaging
100KM a day for six days between Toronto and Montreal,
the Friends For Life Bike Rally is the second-largest
fundraiser benefiting an HIV/AIDS organization in Canada.
Going into its 10th year, our goal in 2008 is to raise over $1
million dollars for people living with HIV and AIDS.

DEAD LEE
Deadlee has garnered much press from Rolling Stone, CNN,
and The Advocate, with his groundbreaking, genre-screwing
approach. A key player in gay rap/hip hop, he’s played at
music festivals including the Peace Out Festival (Homohop)
in Oakland, Peace Out East in NYC, HomoAGoGo in Olympia,
L.A. Latin Gay Pride festival, Christopher Street West/L.A.
Pride Festival, and the San Francisco GLBT Pride Main Stage
three times. He also lead the HomoRevolution Tour 2007.
Says Gay.com’s Josh Tager: “Like many of his rap peers,
Deadlee’s albums are intense, writhing outbursts of anger.
The notable distinction here is that when Deadlee bashes,
he’s bashing back. He is a vigilante for social justice,
committed to confronting homophobia wherever he sees it.”

she draws attention to society’s domestication of notions of
sexuality, race, and gender.
Using theatre, dance, humor and cultural history, Dred plays
with gender roles and social/racial stereotypes to inspire all
audiences to think about race, gender, identites. Her shows
are not just about imitating the “opposite” sex, they are about
freedom of self-expression and crossing/breaking boundaries

Spotlight Artist: Duchess Says
Duchess Says was created in 2003 by four
members of the Church of Budgerigars,
whose goal was to ensure a faithful representation of the message of the Duchess (or
spiritual budgie, naturally) through a precise
artistic dialog. Comprised of A-Claude (vox,
keytar, guit, programmations), Ismael (keyboard, guitar, programmations), Phil (guitar,
bass, feedbacks) and Simon Says (lo-fi
beats, drums and doubtful noises), Duchess
Says serves up a repertory of “moog rock”
songs influenced by no wave, new wave, and
punk, cinema and visual arts. Duchess Says’
mandate is to decontextualize rock and to
promote their Church on the way.

Cohene’s found footage exploring capitalism,
immigration, and the body politic; and the
poignancy and wit of Steve Reinke’s ostensibly simple videos.
Participating Artists: Steve Reinke, Nina
Levitt, Robert Lee, Deanna Bowen, JeanPaul Kelly, Oliver Husain, Krys McGuire,

Toronto-based artist Aleesa Cohene
produces videos and video installations that
seek to explore the polarity between ideas
and emotion, cultural belief and personal integrity, addressing themes of political unrest,
immigration policy, and domestic anxieties.
The work of Montréal-based artist Benny
Nemerofsky Ramsay brings together song,
self-reflexive performance and lyrics from
pop music as vehicles for examining ways in
which emotional expression changes shape
when mediated by technology and popular
culture. Ramsay and Cohene currently work
together in creative partnership.
Spotlight Artist (2): Include Picture
Steve Reinke is an artist and writer best
known for his videos. His work is screened
widely and is in several collections, including
the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the
Pompidou (Paris), and the National Gallery
(Ottawa). With his videos, he is typically a
diarist, creating collages of autobiographical voiceovers offering his desires and pop
culture appraisals with endearing wit. Born
in Northern Ontario, Reinke is currently as-
