Message from GRW President Yolanda Waters
The Texas GOP has targeted seven areas in Texas which need our
attention as Republican movers and shakers. The areas include Dallas
County, Harris County, Beaumont, Corpus Christi, El Paso, The Rio
Grande Valley and parts of San Antonio. The “Mighty Texas Strike Force”
(MTSF) is a group of devoted Texas volunteers, who, at their own
expense, agree to be deployed to national battleground swing states or areas in Texas. The
group will travel to the targeted areas a month before Election Day, and 7 to 10 days prior
to the General Election Day, to support Republican candidates by block walking,
participating in phone bank operations, and political rallies (TRW, 2016).
The group originated during Governor George W. Bush’s campaign for presidency, when it
deployed over 2500 Texans in 2004 to various targeted areas. The MTSF experienced a
downturn in popularity and in 2012 was resurrected by 600 Republicans, only five weeks
before election to support the Romney/Ryan ticket. In January, 2016, the Mighty Texas
Strike Force renewed interest to become the “Mighty American Strike Force.” The
organization has recruited volunteers from across the nation to target 13 swing states
(Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico,
North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin) in the GOP’s endeavor to elect a
Republican President and return our nation to conservative values (TFRW, 2016). If you are

In a similar movement, Republicans in Galveston County will target specific neighborhoods
in September and October, to get the vote out in November. To volunteer at the Galveston

Around the State:
State Representative Wayne Faircloth:
“Given federal failures to secure the border, the Texas
Legislature allocated $800 million in the Texas state
budget for border security during the 84th Legislative
session. By using the additional air, water and ground
assets that the Legislature funded, the Department of
Public Safety (DPS) moved out interdiction efforts and is
optimizing their resources in order to fight the Gulf and
Los Zetas cartels. DPS Steven McGraw stated that our goal
is to displace (smugglers) as we go, one zone at a time,
and by doing that we force them into each other’s
territories where they can’t go.”
DPS is working closely with federal and local partners
along the border to disrupt border activities and keep
Texas safe. It is a long slog, but Texas is slowly winning the
fight. In this case, state action is succeeding where the
federal government is failing. “Securing the border was a
major concern of many constituents prior to the last
session. I am pleased that several of my colleges in the
Legislature and I kept our promise to secure the border.”

Texas State Representative Dr. Greg Bonnen:
Despite the recent downturn in oil and gas prices, the
House Committee on Appropriations confirmed that the
state will avoid a revenue shortfall in the 2017 Legislative
Session due to the fiscal restraints shown in crafting the
current state budget. Comptroller Glen Hegar updated
the Committee on the state of the economy and its effect
on tax collections, informing us that the price of oil could
continue at the $30 per barrel price through the end of
2017 and our budget would still remain balanced and in
the black.

We are no longer as reliant on oil and gas to the
same degree as in the 1980’s and Texas has
grown commerce for all economic sectors since
we began lowering taxes and promoting a
friendly business environment decades ago.
Trade, health care, technology and all other 21st
century ventures have chosen Texas as their
home, even half of Silicone Valley has made the
move to the Lone Star State. The result being a
diverse and resilient economy that keeps Texans
working.
United States Senator John Cornyn:
Senator Cornyn issued the following statements
after President Obama nominated Jude Merrick
Garland to fill the vacancy on the United States
Supreme Court: “While the President has the
constitutional authority to make a nomination to
the fill this vacancy, the Senate also has the
authority and responsibility to determine how to
move forward with it.” “The next justice could
change the ideological makeup of the court for a
generation, and fundamentally reshape
American society in the process.
Instead of putting Americans first, the President
once again continues to weaken our national
security by pursuing decisions geared toward
solidifying his legacy. Fortunately, Congress took
preventative measures by including language in
the recent National Defense Authorization Act
(NDAA) that would bar detainees from
Guantanamo from being transferred to the U.S.
The President signed this legislation into law. For
the President to close Gitmo, current law must be
changed, new legislation must be written,
approved by Congress, and sent to the
President’s desk. I will not support any measure
that will allow these dangerous terrorist to be
transferred to the U.S.”

a say in the selection of the next lifetime
appointment to the Supreme Court. “The only
way to empower the American people and
ensure they have a choice is for the next
President to make the nomination to fill this
vacancy.”
U. S. Representative Randy Weber:
Rep. Weber recently joined 50 other members of
Congress as a signer to a letter to the United
Nations stating that abortion should not be the
answer to controlling the Zieka Virus.
Congressman Weber released the following
statement on the President’s proposal to close
the Guantanamo Bay detention Facility: “Closing
Gitmo and transferring dangerous terrorist to
United States soil is a terrible and illogical idea.
Senator Larry Taylor accepting the Silver Spur Award
from the Texas Travel Industry for support of tourism
in Texas.
