Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome
Steven was born with only the right side of his heart. He
underwent his first open heart surgery when he was only 2
days old. He spent one month in cardiac intensive care and he
had his third open heart surgery at the age of 5 months. He
underwent yet another surgery in the spring of 2009. Steven is
on four heart medications twice a day and has to maintain
regular visits to his pediatric cardiologist. The Prayer Child
Foundation assisted the family with the cost of medications
and doctors’ visits.
Pulmonary Atresia with VSD and MAPCAs
Riley was born with Pulmonary Atresia with VSD and MAPCAs.
This is a rare heart defect in which there is no pulmonary valve
connected to the pulmonary arteries. He also has a large hole
in his heart which mixes his red blood and blue blood together.
This is what is keeping 9-month-old Riley alive right now, as it is
the only way to get oxygen to the lungs. At 2 ½ months Riley
had a heart catheter and three weeks later had his first open
heart surgery. Riley had his next heart catheter in January 2009
and will need additional surgeries in the future. With the help
of the Prayer Child Foundation, his parents received assistance
with the cost of surgeries.
Brandon
Stage IV Hepatoblastoma (liver cancer)
Brandon was diagnosed with stage IV Hepatoblastoma on his 2nd
birthday. It started with just an ear infection and then every
parent’s nightmare became a reality. This rare form of cancer only
occurs in about one in every million children in the U.S. Brandon
has been in the hospital for four weeks now as he goes through
chemotherapy treatments. The Prayer Child Foundation donated
funds to supplement Brandon’s father’s income as he took time
off work to be with his son in the hospital.

money to fund our spring field trips. During a
meeting, a Demonstrator approached us about
doing a fundraiser with Gold Canyon candles.
She assured us she would do all the work …
Much to my surprise a representative that kept
their word! Our Demonstrator sent home all
the fundraising materials with an information
letter attached. She kept the faculty informed
so they would know what was going on. She
collected all the forms, money and sent home
reminder flyers. When the candles came in to
be picked up, they were in nice gift bags with
coordinating tissue paper. The candles were
labeled and put in order of grade level and
teachers. The PTO offered to assist, however,
our Demonstrator did all the work. This was
by far the easiest fundraiser we have done.”

The Making of “The World’s Finest”®
A
chieving a dream takes courage, humility and
passion, which are considered to be the true
original ingredients behind Curt and Karen Waisath’s
dream in launching Gold Canyon®. It began in the
Waisaths’ kitchen, where Karen began developing
a candle that would permeate her home with a rich
fragrance and ambience.
Late in 1997, they developed the perfect candle
creation that quickly found a loyal and passionate
following. Karen not only created the candle she
was seeking through her passionate intuition and
innovation, she also found a way to have a career
that would allow her to be at home with her
children. Soon they discovered people not only loved
their richly fragrant candle, but also the opportunity
that came with it—the flexibility of a home-based
business selling a quality product they could believe
in. One year later, Gold Canyon grew from one
candle to over 26 fragrances in four different sizes.
Today, thousands have fulfilled their own dreams
thanks to the opportunity founded by Curt and
Karen. The formula for success is the same as it
was in the beginning. A formula that includes
the dynamic and passionate community of
