Here’s an idea: why don’t you host a B.Y.O.B party? No, not that
kind of B.Y.O.B. party. We’re talking about a Bring Your Own Blowdryer Party!
Many stylists shy away from the retailing aspect of the salon, saying,
“I’m not a sales person. I’m a hairdresser.” But B.Y.O.B parties are
a winning way to bond with clients and show them how to perfect
the style created for them. At the same time, clients will be educated
on what products are best-suited for their hair, thereby upping their
follicle IQ while sitting pretty.
Here’s how it’s done
Timing: An evening event is always best. Clients can unwind with a
glass of wine and truly relax.
Promote! Promote! Promote! Discuss the event with your clients
and distribute a simple handmade flyer to advertise the event.
Money Matters: Charge a small fee (no more than $25) to ensure
a solid commitment. The money raised to attend the event can be
donated to a charity of the clients’ choice.
Mood Magic: Make your evening a real social event. Go tried-andtrue with a selection of classic wines, cheese, fruit, and crackers, or
go dark and exotic with gourmet-chocolate. A merry atmosphere
will take the pressure off of selling and shift the focus onto looking
and feeling fabulous!
Ready, Set-up, Go! Pre-select items that you and your staff will
focus on for the night. Have as many stations as you have staff
members. Each stylist can be an expert in a category, like Sleek ’n’
Shiny, Curly Girl, and Pump Up the Volume. Stylists can
demonstrate and assist clients in product selection and achieving
their dream hair.
Make the Sale: At the end of every station session, the stylist can
subtly recommend the products needed for at-home styling. To up
the ante, offer products at a tax-free rate for the evening.
Before They Leave: Make sure each client leaves with soft, sexy
hair, at least one product they’re excited about, and the flyer for your
next event.
These evening events will not only help you develop stronger
relationships and loyalty with your clients but will also help you
sell lots of retail!
