Dear Community Member,
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the 4th Annual PACA Gala,
a fundraising event on November 9, 2013 at Zoofari Conference Center.
The Pan -African Community Association (PACA) is a nonprofit organization
that has been serving immigrant and refugee communities for more than ten
years. The fundraising theme for this year is “UBUNTU” a Bantu word which
means “I am because we are” a collective sense of belonging with an individual
responsibility. Ubuntu is an African cultural value system that expresses the
desires and aspirations of immigrants and refugees striving to achieve the
American dream.
PACA’s relentless effort of advocacy is raising awareness in our immigrant and
refugee communities, and helping them attain their full potential as productive
members of our society. The Gala highlights their stories and achievements.
PACA has more than a dozen programs; the refugee resettlement being central
to all of its programs and services. For example, since 2010 PACA has resettled
more than 450 refugees from African and Asian countries, namely Burma, Bhutan,
D. R. Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iraq, Somalia and Sudan. Other programs include
education and skills training such as afterschool program for ESL students; family
literacy, health promotion, job placement.
The PACA fundraiser is also an opportunity to showcase African culture by
serving authentic and tasty African cuisine, the display of fashionable traditional
attire representing several of the 54 African countries, African music/dance,
and a silent auction. Our event program aims to reflect our theme for this year UBUNTU. Please, mark your calendar and save the date for an enjoyable evening
and support a worthy cause.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate contacting PACA at the address
provided.
Sincerely,
O. Peter Akubeze PACA Board Chair Fessahaye Mebrahtu
