Words from our president
“By the time you read this, I pray that all
of you will have had a safe and enjoyable
Holiday! My 8-month term as your DWC
President is quickly coming to an end and
I trust that it has been productive. I eagerly look forward to working with the new
Executive Board and continuing to work
together towards the democratic principles
that we all believe in for all levels of government.
We have all been blessed in numerous
ways throughout 2009 and now we must
by Nancy Simms
prepare to do BIGGER and GREATER
things in 2010. With all of the political
contests “up for grabs” we will once again
have our work cut-out for us and I’m sure
that our hard-working DWC members will
be up to the challenge.
As we approach the New Year, let me
leave you with these words of advice from
Margaret Mead: “Never doubt that a small
group of thoughtful, committed citizens
can change the world; indeed, it is the only
thing that ever has!”

The DWC December 12th auction was
again led by Joe Guardiano’s inimitable
self and much fun was had by all. Our
members are to be thanked and congratulated for their donations of so many saleable items and of cash to purchase almost
every item donated.
As is often the case, eager buyers competed for simple items while some of the
more valuable ones sold at real bargains. To
our amazement two complete sets of golf
clubs, bags and head covers went for only
$20! There were items such as a blender,
a coffee urn, electric tea kettle, a handheld

interest was a framed photo of the Chicago National Convention and a box of mementos from
the 1992 National Convention. There were fresh oranges and avocados, homemade mango
jam and shortbread made with love by Marj Lowell. Lori Spencer brought several calendars
containing a prize-winning photo of hers and a photo of the Bradford Building. Judy Allen
generously shared many items she recently inherited from her mother’s home.
With so many items, the auction was termed a success, netting $786 for the DWC fund.
