We honor him each spring with a Grande Page pipe organ concert. This year, Nathan Avakian will be at the console. Renowned for his style of blending of twenty-first century virtual instrument technology with theater organ music, Nathan creates performances that satisfy contemporary musical tastes and pays tribute to the historical legacy of the theater organ. Tickets on sale Feb. 26 William “Steamboat Bill” Canfield is the owner and captain of a paddle steamer that has seen better days. He eagerly awaits the arrival of his collegestudent son to help him compete with businessman John James King and his brand-new, luxurious riverboat. Steamboat Bill is sorely disappointed with his son who shows up with a pencil moustache, a ukulele, a beret and girlfriend who is the daughter of John James King. Both business rivals are determined to break up the relationship. Embassy house organist Cletus Goens will provide accompaniment on the Grande Page pipe organ. Cletus plays regularly at the Embassy. With more than 30 years of professional experience playing and maintaining pianos, Cletus is the resident acoustic and digital piano expert at Sweetwater Sound. The story of corruption and redemption involves a rustic farmer in a romanticized rural town who falls prey to the seductive wiles of a city vamp in an illicit affair. He plots to murder his loving wife during a boat trip. His conscience is awakened during the attempted killing and he relents, and in the city the couple fall in love again. June 22 | 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. TICKETS: $6 PER PERSON Tickets on sale Feb. 26 This event is perfect for day cares, groups, families and summer camps. Kids enjoy two black and white movies, A Trip to the Moon and Backstage starring Buster Keaton with the Grande Page pipe organ creating the entertaining soundtrack to tell the story. After the movie, the kids get a peek “behind the screen” when stage hands disassemble and store the giant movie screen. The day continues with more than 16 different hands-on activities throughout the Embassy. Clark Wilson returns to the Embassy to provide the music to this love story. Wilson hails from Ohio and regularly plays at the Disney Hall of Music in Los Angeles and the Fox Theatre in Atlanta and has recorded seven albums in his career. Musical Theater Workshop for middle-school students June 27 | 7p.m. July 11 - 31 | 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. TICKETS: $8 ADULTS/ $5 CHILDREN (12 & under) Tickets on sale Feb. 26 REGISTRATION: $450 EARLY BIRD UNTIL APRIL 23/$550 AFTER Cecil B. DeMille’s famous silent epic film is divided into two parts. The Moses story takes up about the first third of the film. Then the story changes to a modern setting involving living by the lessons of the commandments. Two brothers make opposite decisions; One, John, to follow his mother’s teaching of the Ten Commandments and become a poor carpenter, and the other, Danny, to break every one of them and rise to the top. “It’s your story, we’ll help you tell it,” is how Embassy instructors describe this unique theater experience. Organist Mark Herman will be on the Grande Page pipe organ for this classic movie. Herman is a Fort Wayne native who got his start on the Embassy’s Grande Page. He is one of America’s busiest young theater organists, performing more than 30 concerts and silent film presentations each year across the U.S. and abroad. Registration begins January 2016 online at fwembassytheatre.org or contact Rebecca Reeder, education manager, at [email protected]. SCORE! is an intensive three-week workshop for students who have completed grades 6-8. In just three short weeks these students will develop, produce, and perform a piece of original musical theater. The students will work with a professional stage director and educators specially trained in musical theater. Only 25 students are accepted into this program. The Embassy Theatre Foundation continues its history of maintaining a strong financial position. The year ended August 31, 2015, with total revenue of $2,233,238 and marked the 10th consecutive year in the black. The Embassy retains strong cash reserves as well as an additional $1,533,951 in investments. Funds from the organ investment account for the Grande Page Organ were used for the console restoration project completed in June 2015. Operations revenue grew as revenue sources increased from the prior year. Another strong season and show schedule resulted in significant growth in box office revenue, rentals, higher attendance/restoration fees and concession/bar/ catering sales. More patrons are engaged in the Embassy and its mission as membership increased 12 percent from 2014. The Vision for the Embassy capital campaign winds down as contributions decreased from the record prior year. The project remains on schedule with a spring 2016 completion. Expenses increased approximately 4.5 percent from the prior year. In anticipation of the Vision project completion, additions to staffing began in the summer of 2015. Proactive upkeep of the historic building took place along with special projects such as the purchase of two new sewage pumps, the purchase of hearing assist devices and the restoration of the Grande Page pipe organ. The Embassy continues to maintain a diversified portfolio for investment accounts. During the fiscal year, a net realized gain on investments of $43,884 and a net unrealized loss on investments of $136,802 were realized. The Embassy also earned interest and dividend income of $85,084 this year. With continued strong leadership, generous patrons, growth opportunities and increased rentable venue space, the future of the Embassy shines bright. 2014-15 annual report EMBASSY FINANCIAL STATEMENT REVENUE 2015 2014 CHANGE Contributions $744,091 $4,129,820 ($3,385,729) Memberships $121,087 $108,082 $13,005 Special Events $247,221 $202,137 $45,084 Interest & Dividend $85,084 $46,110 $38,974 Net realized (loss)/ gain on investments $43,884 $38,047 $5,837 Net unrealized (loss)/ gain on investments ($136,802) $138,260 ($275,062) Rentals $457,406 $431,765 $25,641 Restoration Fees $180,971 $173,396 $7,575 Concessions & Merchandise $290,207 $264,505 $25,702 Box office and other revenue $146,579 $100,907 $45,672 Embassy-originated programming & underwriting $53,510 $71,102 ($17,592) Total Revenue $2,233,238 $5,704,131 ($3,470,893) Programs $1,379,184 $1,312,691 $66,493 General & Administration $408,132 $382,703 $25,429 Fundraising $124,205 $149,207 ($25,002) Special Events $103,282 $81,458 $21,824 Total Expenses $2,014,803 $1,926,059 $88,744 Net Assets $15,362,468 $15,144,033 $218,435 EXPENSES 2014-15 annual report 2014-15 annual report EMBASSY BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND STAFF CORPORATE MEMBERS BOARD OF DIRECTORS, 2014-15 Chris Gomez, president Gary Wasson, vice-president Rick Maples, treasurer Tim Durnell, secretary Kimberly Amick Ryan Bergdoll Tom Borne Carolyn P.
