Last March 8th 2014, SOMOS International
School welcomed Mr. Valentino Cabansag ,
the attaché of the Tourism Department of
the Philippines and Ms Jennifer Yamamoto,
as the honored guests from the Embassy.
Mao Murayama, our SOMOS students was
emcee of the day along with SOMOS staff.
To start things up, “Ocho Ocho”, which is a
popular novelty dance song in the Philippines
was introduced, and everybody enjoyed the
up-beat rhythm and danced to the music!
The SOMOS teachers introduced the
different art projects created by all
the SOMOS students, which were
beautifully decorated around the
room to give the atmosphere a special
touch of Filipino taste. For everyone
to experience the local arts,
headdresses in the theme of the “Atiatihan Festival ” were made using
feathers from the Philippines.
.They also danced the “ itik-itik ” -a traditional
Philippine folk dance inspired by ducks. And for
the main event, “ Halo-halo ” , a Philippine-style
shaved-ice dessert made with different toppings
(jackfruits, nata de coco, bean paste) added with
evaporated milk and ice cream was made.
Before saying goodbye,
Mao interviewed the guestsof-honor on behalf of the
SOMOS students and learned
so many precious things that
no book can sharel!!
