Ceremony Honors Leadership Grads
More than 20 Petaluma area
citizens will graduate this June 17
from the 10-month long Petaluma
Area Chamber of Commerce (PACC)
Leadership Petaluma program.
The ceremony will take place from
5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Springfield Place,
101 Ely Blvd. Graduation program
emcees Elece Hempel and Don Bennett
will award completion certificates.
The event is the culmination of the
commitment from each participant
to devote one day a month to learning
about the Petaluma community in the
areas of business, government, nonprofits and more.
Leadership program participants
spend time educating themselves
and gaining first-hand experience in
specific subject areas that include
business, agriculture, education and
the arts. Program participants spend
time behind the scenes at community
businesses, organizations and
institutions to gain further knowledge
about community specifics. Service
to the community is also a large
component of the Leadership
Petaluma program.
This year, the class will follow
in the tradition of more than 240
Leadership alums. The program,
which begins its twelfth year in 2016
has graduated more than 240 men
and women — many of whom hold
leadership positions in the region.

operate in their authentic self; using
their own style of power.
The discussion takes place on June

Area Chamber of Commerce office at

The discussion will also center on
questions about whether tapping
into passion helps women be more
powerful and effective. It will address
the questions of whether there is
a connection between power and
effectiveness; what is power; and
what is passion?
The We3 discussions are meant
to provide a venue for women to
network, share their experiences and
learn from each other. This month’s
participants will explore the specific
styles of power in each woman
including the notion that some

Telemedicine a Valuable Tool for Employees
By Andrew McNeil, Principal Arrow
Benefits Group. Since relocating
the Arrow Benefits Group office to
Petaluma, McNeil has served on the
HeartSafe Community Advisory
Committee. In 2015, McNeil created
the Arrow Community Wellness
Series and was given the HeartSafe
Community Golden Heart Award by
The Petaluma Health Care District.
With an ever-increasing appeal for
on-demand services and resources,
telemedicine fits perfectly in this
fast-paced world. Telemedicine is
the latest in technology that brings
individuals immediate, on-the-spot
access to state-licensed physicians. By using ICT (information and
communication technology), telemedicine brings patients and doctors
together for consults and visits,
anytime and anywhere in the world,
using video-based resources.
By funding services such as
telemedicine, fully-insured employers may not see a financial return on
investment. Costs can be anywhere
from $5 - $15 per employee, per
month, but there is a benefit to
employers that is often overlooked.
The number one benefit to the
fully insured employer is that by
putting a highly valuable tool in
the employee’s toolbox, employees
display a stronger sense of loyalty
toward the company. A study done
by the Society for Human Resource
Management shows that when valueadded services focused on specific
areas of an employee’s life are offered
by the employer, the likelihood of that
employee staying with the company
increases exponentially. Telemedicine can also include
at-home monitoring (through the
use of medical devices collecting
vital signs, etc.), collaboration
between primary care physicians and
specialists, and even online support
groups among patients. With a
growing interest and demand for this
service, health insurance companies
are starting to offer similar services. It would be advisable to check with
your insurance advisor to see if your
carrier offers any such service and
whether or not it is offered without
a copay. Noted Local Executive to
