AUCTION RULES
Again this year, we are requiring pre-registration in order
to guarantee your admission to the Auction. Last year’s
event sold out, so don’t wait to pre-register!!!
Every effort has been made to describe items completely
and correctly. All items are sold “as is” without warranty
or representation of any kind as to the correctness of
description, condition or quality.
Each successful bidder is responsible for paying the bid
amount. Cash, checks, Visa, Master Card and Discover are
all accepted. You may elect to make one payment to cover
multiple winning items.
In the event of a dispute, the auctioneer will act as the
final authority. Any sales or excise tax will be paid by the
purchaser. All items and services must be used within
the stated time limit and are subject to the terms and
conditions stipulated by the donors. The maximum time
limit for any item is one year from the date of the Auction.
All sales are final.
During pre-registration, we will swipe your credit card.
This pays for your admission and also allows you to pick
up your winning items at the end of the auction.
When you arrive at the Auction, you just pick up your
bidder paddle and proceed directly to the auction floor.
Several computer kiosks will be available on the auction
floor. As the various sections close and winning bids
are recorded, you can enter your paddle number and
see which items you’ve won. The end of the night, you
can verify your winning bids and print a receipt of your
purchases.

HWMC: WHO WE ARE
And Why Your Attendance Means a Lot to All of Us
T
he Huntington Woods Men’s Club was formed
in 1975 by 24 charter members as a community
service organization serving the city of Huntington
Woods. Over the years, the Club has grown to over 150
members and has lived up to its charter. Members have
volunteered countless time and energy in support of
community service activities.
Through the Club’s fundraising efforts, well over
$1,500,000 has been raised and donated back to the city
for special events and projects. The Club’s annual Service
Auction each spring is one of the highlights of the year
for the Club and the community. We also have three other
fundraisers throughout the year: a ticket raffle as part of
the July 4th celebration, cider & donut sale in the fall in
conjunction with the Women’s League and a golf outing
to raise money for the Past Presidents’ Scholarship Fund.
All money raised from Men’s Club fundraisers is returned
to the community through various projects.
In addition to service, the Men’s Club serves a social role
through monthly general membership meetings and
various family and adult events throughout the year. These
fun-filled events further strengthen the community spirit
that the Club seeks to promote.

HWMC SERVICE AUCTION MISSION
For the past 35 years, the HWMC Service Auction has
raised funds to support many significant projects within our
community. The project for 2016 is the Renovation of Scotia
Park. Of the thirteen parks within Huntington Woods, Scotia
Park is truly our “central” park, used by much of the community.
It is the destination of every July 4th parade and home to the
Concerts in the Park, Teddy Bear Picnic, as well as many other
community-wide programs, events and gatherings.
Scotia Park has numerous issues that can no longer be ignored.
The ground is very compacted and drains poorly. Events have
frequently been canceled or moved from the park due to
flooding as a result of even the most minor rainfall. Landscape
is overgrown and no longer represents our lovely city and
accessibility is minimally addressed in its current state.
The Scotia Park Project addresses both functional and aesthetic
improvements. The renovations incorporate water management
utilizing elevated surfaces and rain gardens; landscape removal
and plantings; and improvements in accessibility with the
addition of walkways, entrances, gathering spaces and bicycle
parking. The goal is to provide a more enjoyable park experience
for people of all abilities, while enhancing our traditional
community events.
Utilizing the Men’s Club’s donation and resources from within
our community, we will have a well-deserved destination park.
These substantial improvements to Scotia Park are scheduled to
be made during 2016 and should serve our community well for
many years to come.
ADDITIONAL PROJECTS & EVENTS
COMMUNITY SERVICE & INVOLVEMENT
Annually, the Men’s Club selects a large project as our Auction “theme,”
however, money raised from the Auction and other fundraisers is
also used to pay for a number of other smaller projects and activities
throughout the year.
The Men’s Club is also actively involved in the community where we live. Our
large membership allows us to be a great resource for volunteers.

Interested in Joining the Men’s Club?
The Huntington Woods Men’s Club meets in a social setting at 7:30 PM on the third Wednesday of
each month to discuss Club business.
During the winter months, we meet upstairs at ONYX in Royal Oak. During the summer months
we meet in the backyard of various members’ homes. Food and refreshments are provided.
Our annual membership dues are $75.

What’s New in the 2016 Auction
O
nce again club members have raised the bar, soliciting nearly 400 gifts listed in this year’s
catalogue. Our congratulations go out to every club member. We have everything from
a hot air balloon ride, custom jewelry, complete kitchen remodels, Broadway show
tickets (including air fare!), our customary, jaw-dropping martini and surf and turf parties,
ultimate Tiger suite tickets (up to 12 persons with $500 in food and beverages) to beer tours.
This year’s marquee live auction item is a guitar signed by Sir Paul McCartney, OBE.
There are some features this year we feel everyone will want to know about. As you know, all changes
in credit cards can be made either the week before the event, or beginning on Sunday morning, the day
following the auction. We will not be able to make any changes the day of the event.
“Capture the Flag” will again fly high this auction. For those unaware of the event, tickets are sold [3 for
$10] the night of the auction – blue tickets supporting U of M and green tickets supporting MSU. The
school with the most tickets sold will have their flag flown at the Huntington Woods City Hall the week
before the fall football match-up. See page 11. And item #172.
This year you’ll notice a new site, The President’s Table.
PRESIDENTS TABLE
Many items on this table were received after our catalogue
went to press and others represent a diverse mix of gifts offered
by some of our generous donors. The President’s Table will be
in last group of tables to close just before the Live Auction so make sure you save time to get over there
and bid on these wonderful items!
Again at the back of the book we have included a “My Auction Wish List” for your
convenience. Simply tear out this page and list the items you want to bid on, their
catalogue number (which will match their number on their respective table or
auction type) and when that table closes, take it with you the night of the auction.
This way you’ll be able to see the items you’re most interested in right away. Have a
wonderful time, enjoy the food, drink and conversation that night and thank you for
your support!

The Silent Auction is split into six sections or “roads”.
Our Live Auction will immediately follow the Silent
and Almost Live Auctions. Live Auction items will be
displayed or described by the Auctioneer. Each item is
assigned a number. Simply raise your bidder paddle to bid
on an item. You may bid on as many items as you wish and
you may bid on an item more than once.

The items have been grouped into these five sections. Refer
to this catalog to find the section for the items you desire.
Each item in the Silent Auction will have a bid sheet that
indicates the minimum bid amount and a bid increment.
Each line on the bid sheet indicates a different bid
according to the minimum bid amount. Write your paddle
number next to the bid amount you wish to place. You
may bid on as many items as you wish and you may bid on
an item more than once.
ALMOST LIVE
Almost Live is a special section. Due to the generosity of
our donors, there are many gifts that could be considered
for inclusion in the Live Auction. Unfortunately, time for
the Live Auction is limited. So, we created the Almost
Live. Again this year we will have two Almost Live events
during the evening, beginning at 7:45 and 8:15 PM.
To increase the excitement around these gifts, bidders call
out their bids instead of using bid sheets. Our Almost Live
auctioneers display the bids on flip charts for all to see.
All items will be displayed and bid on at the same time,
keeping the auctioneers quite busy. You don’t want to miss
these items and the entertainment that accompanies it.

fall and on auction night you’ll
decide whose flag it will be: a
Spartan flag or a Wolverine flag.
The week before the Michigan
State - Michigan football game, a
flag from one of these schools will
sit atop the pole in front of the
offices.
Here’s how you’ll decide which
one it is: a table will be set up at
the Gillham Rec Center with two
buckets, one for the Wolverines
and one for the Spartans. Men’s
Club members will be circulating
throughout the evening selling
tickets: green ones and blue ones.
Tickets can be purchased 3 for $10.
You’ll place the tickets you buy in
the bucket of your choice and retain
the matching half. The tickets will
be counted shortly before the Live
Auction. The bucket with the most
tickets representing MSU or U of M
wins! The winning school flag will
fly the week of the game.
One ticket will also be drawn
from each bucket and the winners
will receive the flags from the
respective universities.

your gardens and complete a landscape restoration. Castle Rock will provide
consultation followed by a complete yard design for either the front yard or
backyard of your property. Included in the design and consultation process,
Castle Rock will accompany you to a nursery to guide you in selecting the

kitchen improvement project. Because this package may not cover everything

The Marina by Alex Pauker
Pauker paints in acrylic with both a brush and a palette knife, building up
the surfaces of the works to a thick texture known as ìImpasto.î Although his
subjects are varied and taken from locales all over the world, they are united
with a sense of peace, natural beauty and tranquility. Pauker’s motivation
comes from his passion to capture the essence of the places he visits. To
an extent, his work can be said to be influenced by the Fauvist movement
of late nineteenth century Paris. Inspired by the late Impressionist works of
Gauguin and van Gogh, this group of artists pushed the boundaries with
their bold color choices and simplified design. As with the Fauves, Pauker’s
aim is to express emotion through color choice. His style could also be said
to be reminiscent of the Impressionists, yet his colors are contemporary.
Similar to the Impressionists, Pauker enjoys capturing the moment plein aire,
as the scene unfoldsóthe beauty of the countryside in the early morning, a
coastal scene at mid-day or the waters of Venice at Dusk. “I mostly like to
do paintings that play with light and shade,” he says. “Beautiful scenery, the
ocean, the sun, nature, and flowers always give me new thoughts and ideas

drew influences from his childhood heroes, great thinkers, and media of the time to

David Najar is an emerging international artist. His works (oils and acrylic on canvas)
present energetic movements of color and shapes, projecting scenes from nature. David
describes nature as a large subject, something that is simultaneously in perfect harmony, near God, and full of beauty. While he doesn’t consider himself a philosopher, he
is pulled to the subject and feels passionate about the natural world. He once explained
that, to become an artist, you don’t need to attend a formal art school but to just look
around you and let nature be your instructor. He says that the modern world is so
busy that everyone should slow down. You don’t need to travel far to see something
worthwhile. Drawing from previous styles, especially Impressionism, Najar uses color
and texture to define the relationship between light and shadow in his paintings. Often
focusing on landscapes, his compositions dance around themes of reflection. Utilizing
water sources, the setting sun, and shadows, David splits images into their reflections ñ
almost an optical illusion. He also paints figures and still lifes, focusing on very bright
colors that are deepened with heavily contrasting shadow. One can describe his work as
Contemporary Expressionism. David’s paintings are sold worldwide, which have been
shown in group exhibits and one-man shows in Israel, the United States, and Canada.

Everyone Loves a Parade!
Everyone in Huntington Woods loves the Fourth of July! But don’t you just wish sometimes that you lived on the parade route and could have a great party for the Fourth of
July? With the help of HWWL and homeowner Jaimie Powell your wish will become a
reality! You don’t need to come early to set up blankets and chairs, you don’t need to
worry about the mimosas. Bid on this item and a group of 6-12 people can enjoy an
excellent view the parade from 26419 York. The parade leaves the bank at 10 AM, so
come over and enjoy the pre-parade crowd and festivities from as early as 9:00 am,
and collect all the candy that you can! We will handle the cleanup from hosting the
party. Two tables with patriotic decor, two blankets and 4-6 folding/camp chairs are
yours for the duration of the parade. At noon, a quick walk through our beautiful city
will take you to Scotia park to watch the awards and taste the treats that are part of
the annual dessert competition. This auction item includes: Seating for the parade as
described above, 2 bottles of champagne, 1 Gallon of orange juice, 1/2 dozen bagels,
