About Herb Hartso
Herb was born and raised in Tacoma and
graduated from the University of Washington.
Although basketball is Herb’s first love, he
played football for the Washington Huskies.
He was also a founder and President of
Keepin’ it Real for Christ, a campus ministry
that served minority students.
As a licensed minister, Herb loves preaching
and sharing the gospel message of Jesus
Christ. Herb has been a member at Christ the
King Bible Fellowship in Federal Way for the past nine years. Herb
also travels with the Strength Team as an athlete and motivational
speaker to students and adults.
Herb is happily married to Lela and they have one son, Herbie
Hartso, IV. Lela loves the Lord, is a full-time mom, and a part-time
Registered Nurse. Herbie is a joyful kindergarten student who loves
playing with kids and going to any restaurant.
Herbie was diagnosed with Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) II when
he was three years old. MPS II is a rare, genetic disease that affects
approximately 300 boys in the United States. Management of the
disease includes weekly
treatments at Seattle
Children’s Hospital and
monthly trips to the
University of North Carolina.

The Hartso family looks forward to their annual vacation to Seaside,
Oregon. They have also enjoyed recent vacations to California and
Disneyworld. Herb and Lela share the love of sports, especially
college basketball, and always root for their UW Huskies! The family
also enjoys going to the gym where Herbie loves playing with the kids!
