Here are just a few of the new programs to look for in the Fall Catalog: • Line Dancing for the 55+ Crowd • Cardio Tennis for 16 & Over…High-energy fitness activity that combines features of the sport of tennis with cardiovascular exercises. • Club Kiddie Kampus…Extra care for participants while concentrating on large motor skills. This is just a small sample of the full spectrum of recreational programs to choose from. So don’t delay, sign up now! Turning our attention to your park system, on June 25 we held the Official Grand Opening of your newest park, Walker Country Estates Park. This park is located on the north side of town, next to Liberty Jr. High School. After four attempts to get a 50% matching grant and two fiscal years of budgeting, this park was finally constructed, but the wait was well worth it. This park features a splash pad for our younger kids, playground equipment, walking trail, a 3-goal basketball shoot around and a fully-stocked ADA-accessible, 6-acre pond. PRESIDENT’S LETTER As your Park District wraps up another summer of fun-filled activities, we look to see what fall programs will be offered. Your Park District Recreation Department is always thinking “outside the box” to come up with new and improved programs to peak your interest and this fall season is no different. As I mentioned, this park was built with a 50% matching grant from the Illinois Department of Resources OSLAD Grant Program. As I am sure you have heard in the news, all grant programs out of Springfield have been frozen while our legislators grapple with getting our State’s finances in order. Your Park District Commissioners and Staff are going to take this time to update our current “Parks and Recreational Master Plan”, so that when they reinstate the OSLAD Grant Program, we will be better prepared in our application process for the 50% match in funding. Your Park Board and Staff realize the impact the State’s finances have on our operation. As information and decisions are made down in Springfield, we will respond accordingly. We will continue to provide the best recreational programs possible, while being financially prudent as we go about meeting the needs of today, while planning for the future. Remember…Be Active and Stay Healthy! Sincerely. Commemorative Tree and Bench Program What is the S.T.O.P. PROGRAM? Are you looking for a special way in which to honor a loved one or to commemorate a Special Event? S.T.O.P. stands for Stop Trashing Our Parks and will be represented by a Beaver dressed as a park ranger, holding a STOP sign in one paw and cash in the other paw. Cash rewards will be paid for information leading to the apprehension of park vandals. Individuals providing information are not required to identify themselves. Hopefully, kids of all ages can relate to this “friendly mascot” and understand that he is trying to protect the parks. The New Lenox Community Park District’s Commemorative Tree and Bench Program is dedicated to the planting of a tree or placement of a bench in honor of a loved one, organization, or to celebrate your special occasion. There is a variety of trees that can be purchased and planted. Please keep in mind that trees may be purchased at any time, but are only planted in the spring and fall and benches would be installed weather permitting. Please note that these trees and/or benches may be placed within a park site or at our Sanctuary Golf Course but restrictions do apply. Each commemorative donation will be designated with a plaque honoring your request. For further information, please call 815.485.3584.
