Victor J. Andrew Legacy Lounge
Despite the weather, TBolt man and the rest of the runners were ready to race in the 6th annual Ludwig 5K Race. Proceeds from the race
went to the Dr. Kelly Ludwig Foundation and Andrew Wellness events/student scholarship.
After nearly a year of raising funds, working with designers, and partnering with the
Andrew family themselves, the Victor J. Andrew Legacy Lounge (south main entrance)
is finally complete. The final piece is a bust donated by the Andrew family that our own
maintenance crew installed in a premier spot on the wall. This was financed through
the D230 Foundation, Andrew family donations, and Class of 2014 contributions.
Thanks to all – it is a great honor to our namesake.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Co-Curricular Updates
Dear Andrew High School Community,
The Green Team
It was a great year for VJA! We are proud of what we achieved as a school and how we were
able to come together to continue to build a school our community can be proud to claim as
their own. We are particularly proud of our VJA Graduates. Their theme of “Be Bold, Be Gold”
really resonated with our entire school and inspired many to set outstanding goals and support
each other to reach these goals.
The Green Team participated in May’s Outdoor Learning Center
Workshop. The Green Team presented "Gold For Your Garden" by
showing guests how they can use recyclable and reusable materials
and food scraps for gardening. The children were invited to "dig in
the dirt" to fill their flower pots, made from paper towel rolls, with dirt
and seeds. The Green Team also showed guests how to make flower
decorations from magazine pages.
A few of the highlights are:
● Three National Merit Scholars placing them in the Top 1% academically of students
throughout the nation!
● The Class of 2015 accumulated over 44,000 hours of Community Service. That represents an
average of 88 hours of community service for each graduate!
● The Class of 2015 had 74 Illinois State Scholars (16% of the total graduating class). Illinois
State Scholars represent the top 10% of students in the State of Illinois based on GPA. This
class also had 26 PSAE Scholars which places these students as the best in the state due to
their performance on the Prairie State Achievement Exam in its final year.
● The Class of 2015 qualified for over $6.3 million in scholarship dollars, $1.1 million greater than

Accounting Students Gain Real World
Knowledge Beyond the Classroom
Members of the Andrew Accounting class were invited to the CPA
Society in the South Loop to listen to a presentation from current
students who are planning to take the CPA exam. Students learned
about the role of the organization and gained valuable insight into the
career of a certified public accountant. The Andrew students were
able to ask questions not only about studying accounting, but about
college life as well. Mr. Kulasa stated, “One of the most important
parts of the accounting curriculum at Andrew is to give the students
the ability to see outside the school and outside the curriculum. For
some students, this field trip is a realization of their career path. In the
past, I have had students tell me that these trips were the clincher.”
The three CPA students, who were from DePaul, St. Xavier, and
Roosevelt Universities, offered advice about the importance of networking and getting involved as leaders in college. The conclusion of
the trip was a stop at Mario’s Italian Ice on Taylor Street, where the
students heard the story of Mario’s stand and enjoyed a refreshing
cup of ice.
one year ago. This is a testament to the students and counselors for working their hardest to
seek out and qualify for these important dollars.
● Cocurricular programs continued to impress when it came to fundraising for charitable organi-
zations. As a school, we raised well over $150,000 for multiple charities. This is highlighted by
raising $30,000 for St. Baldrick’s (an all-time high) and contributing to the overall $325,000
raised for Relay for Life. We also had an amazing 91% of students participate in at least one
activity or sport.
● Of the 31 IHSA team sports Andrew offers, 22 of them qualified as IHSA All-State Academic
Teams for the 2014-15 school year. That means their combined GPA was over 3.0, unweighted.
● We had several individual and team successes, including individual state champions in
Business Professionals of America, Skills USA, and Worldwide Youth In Science and
Engineering. Boys’ Bowling, Girls’ Bowling, Boys’ Soccer, and Competitive Dance all took
trophies or qualified for the state tournament during the IHSA State Series. We also had a
number of athlete championships in Gymnastics, Swim and Dive, Badminton, and Tennis.
● In the Fine Arts, our production of Next To Normal qualified to perform at Illinois’ Theaterfest
and was the most attended event of the festival. This is the first of its kind in Andrew history.
We also had three students make the All-State Cast & Crew at Theaterfest. Our Marching Band
finished the season ranked 8th in the State of Illinois. Wind Symphony took the prestigious
Midwest Tournament title as well as qualified for Illinois’ Super-State Festival, also a first in
school history. And, of course, our Winter Percussion continued its success by taking 7th at
the WGI World Championships in April!
● Academically, we are proud to maintain our distinction as a Top 10% school in the State of
Illinois as a result of our student performance on the Prairie State Achievement Exam. For the
second year in a row we are especially proud to add the distinction as one of “America’s Most
Challenging Schools” by the Washington Post due to our student participation in Advanced
Placement courses. Finally, we were named one of “America’s Distinguished Schools” by
Newsweek Magazine
We will continue to reflect on what we’ve accomplished, with an eye on setting even more
challenging goals for our students. We can balance pride in what we’ve accomplished, coupled
with a desire to achieve more. I know that this summer will be a great opportunity to put together
plans to achieve even more for the entire student body and, specifically, for the leaders of the
school next year – the Class of 2016.
As I embark on my 7th year as Principal of the best school in the universe, I embrace the
challenges ahead and continue to express pride in our accomplishments. It takes our entire
community – students, parents, staff, and administration – to make Andrew the best place for
kids to learn and grow. Enjoy your summer and I look forward to seeing you all this August!

Deans’ Office
Andrew Athletics Update
As summer break begins, the Deans’ Office
at Andrew High School is actively preparing
for the 2015-2016 school year. Through our
preparations, we wanted to stress two key
items that will help with the start of the new
school year in August.
As summer approaches, this seems like
a perfect time to reflect on our spring
season, and athletic years as a whole!
What an amazing journey for our senior
athletes, as well as the rest of our
student/athletes, coaches, parents, and
fans. The memories and the stories of
practices and games will live on as we
say goodbye to an outstanding group of
young men and women. The positive
impact these young people had, not only
on their teammates and peers, but also
on the school and coaching staff, is truly
everlasting. Experiences of joy, pain, elation, and sacrifice throughout our programs are what truly make the athletic
voyage memorable.
Parking Lot Changes
As discussed in prior newsletters, Andrew
High School and the Tinley Park Police
Department have worked together to develop a plan that will help create a safer, more
organized parking lot for our students, staff,
and visitors. Key elements of this plan
include making the left entry lane a “left turn
only” lane that will filter towards the building
for curbside drop off and pickup. The right
entry lane must continue around the back of
the parking lot where limited drop off and
pickup opportunities may occur. Additionally,
cars will no longer be able to pull down the
parking aisles from the west in the west
parking lot. As always, visitors or parents
who may be waiting extended periods of
time for students to come out of the building
are encouraged to use our visitor
parking spaces located along the outfield of
the softball field in the south parking lot.
These changes and additional information
including detailed maps will be provided
prior to the start of the 2015-2016 school
year. As always, please continue to drive
safely and considerately in the parking lot
at Andrew High School.
While we had much success this spring
and throughout the entire school year
with big wins from Boys’ Volleyball, a
number one seeded Boys’ Water Polo
team, 1st time ever Boys’ Gymnastic
conference champs, state qualifiers in
Badminton, Gymnastics, and Tennis, the
true impact was the relationships we
Welcome to the 2015-16 School Year
developed and fostered. Even through
adversity, our Girls’ Soccer team never
gave up and took the regional championship game to PK’s, our Baseball team
was a play away from a regional championship themselves, Softball worked hard
and played hard but fell just short of a
regional win. The Track teams peaked at
the right time and ran personal bests at
sectionals, and the Girls’ Water Polo
team came together throughout the season to keep improving. These are the
stories that measure true success.
Positive experiences through winning or
losing that is what we are truly proud of.
This year was a whirlwind and a roller
coaster for our athletic family and myself,
but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The
imprint these young men and women
had will be seen for years to come, and
that is the true measure of success.
Thank you seniors and senior parents for
your love, passion, and dedication to
Andrew High School!
St. Baldrick’s Shavees and Volunteers
All incoming Freshmen will
receive their IDs in a packet
that will be distributed on
Freshmen Orientation Day.
As always, we encourage
our students to always take
personal responsibility for
their actions, solve any
problems peacefully, and
make positive choices in
every decision that is made.
We look forward to a great
start to the 2015-2016 school
year, but until then, enjoy the
rest of the summer.

Helping Students
Make Healthy Choices
District 230 is committed to working closely
with students, families, community resources
and law enforcement to help students make
healthy choices. Over the years we have utilized a number of strategies including health
class curriculum, peer education, dean’s
office meetings, the Snowball retreats and
the Athletic and Co-Curricular Honor Code of
Conduct to educate students about the consequences of their actions and provide
opportunities for them to choose healthy
activities. As part of our ongoing efforts, we
partner with local police departments and
conduct canine searches in our schools. We
hope that such unannounced searched serve
as a method to deter students from brining
drugs or illegal substances onto campus.
The addition of the Advisory curriculum also
assists in educating students about these
important topics.

PE Department
Recently, Consolidated High School District 230 received guidance
from the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) regarding single gender courses.
After discussion with legal counsel, we were notified of the change in
the law regarding single gender physical education. Therefore, we
have modified our Freshman and Sophomore Physical Education
programs to be coed starting with the 2015-16 school year. Based

Helping Students
Make Healthy Choices
District 230 is committed to working closely
with students, families, community resources
and law enforcement to help students make
healthy choices. Over the years we have utilized a number of strategies including health
class curriculum, peer education, dean’s
office meetings, the Snowball retreats and
the Athletic and Co-Curricular Honor Code of
Conduct to educate students about the consequences of their actions and provide
opportunities for them to choose healthy
activities. As part of our ongoing efforts, we
partner with local police departments and
conduct canine searches in our schools. We
hope that such unannounced searched serve
as a method to deter students from brining
drugs or illegal substances onto campus.
The addition of the Advisory curriculum also

Deans’ Office
Andrew Athletics Update
As summer break begins, the Deans’ Office
at Andrew High School is actively preparing
for the 2015-2016 school year. Through our
preparations, we wanted to stress two key
items that will help with the start of the new
school year in August.
As summer approaches, this seems like
a perfect time to reflect on our spring
season, and athletic years as a whole!
What an amazing journey for our senior
athletes, as well as the rest of our
student/athletes, coaches, parents, and
fans. The memories and the stories of
practices and games will live on as we
say goodbye to an outstanding group of
young men and women. The positive
impact these young people had, not only
on their teammates and peers, but also
on the school and coaching staff, is truly
everlasting. Experiences of joy, pain, elation, and sacrifice throughout our programs are what truly make the athletic
voyage memorable.
Parking Lot Changes
As discussed in prior newsletters, Andrew
High School and the Tinley Park Police
Department have worked together to develop a plan that will help create a safer, more
organized parking lot for our students, staff,
and visitors. Key elements of this plan
include making the left entry lane a “left turn
only” lane that will filter towards the building
for curbside drop off and pickup. The right
entry lane must continue around the back of
the parking lot where limited drop off and
pickup opportunities may occur. Additionally,
cars will no longer be able to pull down the
parking aisles from the west in the west
parking lot. As always, visitors or parents
who may be waiting extended periods of
time for students to come out of the building
are encouraged to use our visitor
parking spaces located along the outfield of
the softball field in the south parking lot.
These changes and additional information
including detailed maps will be provided
prior to the start of the 2015-2016 school
year. As always, please continue to drive
safely and considerately in the parking lot
at Andrew High School.
While we had much success this spring
and throughout the entire school year
with big wins from Boys’ Volleyball, a
number one seeded Boys’ Water Polo
team, 1st time ever Boys’ Gymnastic
conference champs, state qualifiers in
Badminton, Gymnastics, and Tennis, the
true impact was the relationships we
Welcome to the 2015-16 School Year
developed and fostered. Even through
adversity, our Girls’ Soccer team never
gave up and took the regional championship game to PK’s, our Baseball team
was a play away from a regional championship themselves, Softball worked hard
and played hard but fell just short of a
regional win. The Track teams peaked at
the right time and ran personal bests at
sectionals, and the Girls’ Water Polo
team came together throughout the season to keep improving. These are the
stories that measure true success.
Positive experiences through winning or
losing that is what we are truly proud of.
This year was a whirlwind and a roller
coaster for our athletic family and myself,
but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The
imprint these young men and women
had will be seen for years to come, and
that is the true measure of success.
Thank you seniors and senior parents for
your love, passion, and dedication to
Andrew High School!
St. Baldrick’s Shavees and Volunteers
All incoming Freshmen will
receive their IDs in a packet
that will be distributed on
Freshmen Orientation Day.
As always, we encourage
our students to always take
personal responsibility for
their actions, solve any
problems peacefully, and
make positive choices in
every decision that is made.
We look forward to a great
start to the 2015-2016 school
year, but until then, enjoy the
rest of the summer.
