The so-called Reproductive f{ealth and Access Act
HB 6205 iepresents a RADICAL departwe ftom curent Illinois law regarding abotion, public funding of
abotion, health careright of conscience,parental notifi.cation and "comprehensivd' sex education.
NO STATE OR IJOCAL CINTERFERENCE"T
Section 15 statesthat notv/ithstanding any other crrrcnt law (FlealthcareRight of ConscienceAct and
Parental Notification of Abortion Act) neither the statenor any political subdivision may "deny'' or
"interfere" with accessto abottion. This section is designedto set up legal challenges
to undetrrine the
Health Care Right of Conscienceand Parental Notification Acts. Section 40 doesnot offer teal protection
to the Patental Notice of Abortion Act.
PUBLIC FUNDING
OF ABORTION & EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION!
Section 20 requires the public funding of abotions via stateMedicaid and otler statemedical assistance
proga ns, pethaps even including state employee'shealth insutanceplans. In addition to abortion, this
section will require these ptogtams to pay for other 'teptoductive healthcale" - including contracept-ion,in
vifto fertilization, feffility taeatments,etc.

schools,meaning Catholic schools could not teach tlle subiect in a maffrer consistentwith Catholic values.
