Did you know that the Alberta Dress Tartan was designed by 12 year
old Ashley Stowkowy and her Highland Dancing teacher Gail Danysk
with help from Lochcarron of Scotland. It was approved by the Alberta
Legislature in 2000 (Bill No. 205) and was unveiled in Edmonton at
ScotDance 2000 - the ScotDance Canada Championship Series.
Ashley is a former Canadian Highland Dancing Champion and now a
member of the SOBHD Adjudicating Panel.

Call for Volunteers
As of June 15th, there were over 780 dancers registered to compete at the event. You may
be surprised to know that there are about 600 volunteer positions needed just to run this
event from July 11th to 15th.
We still need a lot of volunteers so we are asking for your help. Please volunteer for one
shift at the competition – either one morning or one afternoon on Thursday, July 12th, Friday, July 13th, Saturday, July 14th or Sunday, July 15th. If one parent for every dancer volunteered that would be a tremendous help. An event of this size is successful only with the
help of many volunteers.
This call for volunteers is for services including: marking room, marshalling for the competition and awards, running results, organizing awards for presentation, security and the admissions table.
If you can help us out by volunteering, please fill out a Volunteer Registration Form which
can be downloaded at www.sdccs.ca/volunteers and send it into the address or the email
address indicated on the form.
