The Trouble With Harry by Lachlan Philpott
MKA: Theatre of New Writing
Tagline: How far would you go to protect the world
you’d made?
Short Synopsis: Harry Crawford seems an ordinary,
decent bloke to the neighbours. He and wife Annie are
bringing up a boy and they all seem happy enough…
until a strange girl comes knocking. Then the trouble
begins. But how does it end in murder? And the
revelation of something even more shocking?
The Trouble with Harry written by Lachlan Philpott rips
back the curtains on the true case of Eugenia Falleni,
aka Harry Crawford, the notorious ‘Man-Woman’
murderer of 1920s Sydney. Challenging the notion of
the innocent woman duped, this new large-scale
production examines concepts of perversion and
complicity, of secret lives and secret deaths.
Short Review: ‘An eloquent example of what grown-up,
gender-conscious theatre is capable of achieving...’ ~
Irish Theatre Magazine ‘An unerring sense of
narrative...searingly poetic...’

Boy Out of the Country
Larrikin Theatre
Tagline: A witty ensemble drama about a pair of
country boys' feud over a girl, the family estate and
their ageing mother's independence.
Short Synopsis: Helmed by a veteran cast of five,
featuring Jane Clifton, regional Victoria's desperate
economic underbelly is sliced open for all to see. A
family homestead, worthless for generations, is
suddenly rezoned as part of a regional residential
estate to accommodate an ever increasing urban
sprawl. Written by award winning playwright Felix
Nobis, the play uses a combination of subtle humour
and wit to showcase country- town Australia in a highly
entertaining light.
Photo:Sarah Walker
Short Review: A play infused with the vitality of Aussie
idiom and melodrama that crackles with
understatement and wit (The Age); Touching, funny,
raw, bittersweet, the play is at once uniquely Australian
and thematically universal (Australian Book Review);
...really hits home. This is a must tour (Richard Mitchell,
6 PAC)

Death By Soprano
Isabel Hertaeg
Tagline: Sopranos must die, it's the rules of opera. An A-Z
cliff-notes to operatic demise, with props, costumes, an
impressive set of pipes and a higher death toll than a Jean
Claude Van Damme film. Catering to the Opera-Curious and
the seasoned Operaphile. Appreciation of opera not
required.
Short Synopsis: Death By Soprano satirically catalogues
operatic death scenes in an A-Z, cabaret romp through
Operatic Occupational Hazards.
Death By Soprano is a cabaret work and accompanying
photographic exhibition. The project is created with a great
love of opera, although it also embraces a loving
irreverence for her occasionally over-inflated ego.
Utilising slapstick, absurdism, dark-clowning and a healthy
dose of prop-humour, Death By Soprano portrays the final
moments in the lives of operatic heroines.
The show is created specifically for 'non-opera'
demographics, particularly comedy, cabaret and festival
audiences but also caters for lovers of classical music.
Short Review: "Looking for a good Melbourne Fringe
show? Try DEATH BY SOPRANO - opera's most morbid
moments celebrated with gusto, glee, great stagecraft and
an excellent voice." Richard Watts: RRR, Artshub.

Company History and Background:
Isabel Hertaeg (Actor/Soprano) is a cabaret artist of
international esteem. Isabel’s work has been described as
‘The Rarest of things... Theatre that mattered’ Arts Hub;
‘Radical, transgressive chic’ The Guardian, UK; ‘Gutsy and
Likeable’ Cameron Woodhead, The Age 2014.
As Soprano for Opera in the Air Isabel has performed opera
in regional Victoria on top of grain silos, on mountains,
cliffs, quarries and rooftops. Isabel’s cabaret work, La
Petite Mort presented several successful seasons in
Australia and overseas and was listed as 'Adelaide Fringe
Top 3 Shows' Adelaide Magazine, 'Best Bets of the
Melbourne Fringe' The Age, 'A truly original, delightful,
accomplished show' The Scotsman and 'Hot Pick' ABC
Classic FM's Limelight Magazine.
Death By Soprano enjoyed sell-out seasons at La Mama,
Nati Frinj, Perth Fringeworld and successful seasons at
Promethean, Adelaide Fringe and the Melba Spiegeltent,

Opera for regional, 'non-opera' audiences is a passion of
mine and features through my work; most notably in Opera
in the Air presented at Dookie Earthed 2014, Feeling the
Ceiling, Nati Frinj, 2011 and Death By Soprano, Nati Frinj
2013.

Aussie Aussie Aussie
Circus Trick Tease
Tagline: Circus, beer and tricks on the barbie.
Short Synopsis: Aussie Aussie Aussie is a tongue-in cheek
political satire concerning different ideas of the evolving
Australian identity. Told from the perspective of a 5th
generation Australian, an American expat and an Iranian
applying for citizinship. The show features awe inspiring
acrobatics, beer can juggling, aerial keg, 3 meter high
handstands and (of course) standing on heads.
The work is highly inspired from our previous RAV tour and
is targeted at a regional audience… both established and
new Australians.

Loose Ends
Jens Altheimer
Tagline: A kooky off the wall story, set in a wondrous and
unpredictable tinkering heaven
Short Synopsis: Loose Ends is a touring family show,
combining custom-built contraptions, puppetry, circus,
shadow projection, music and transformed objects to a
visual theatre extravaganza.
It is a story about friendship, fake values, loss and
perseverance, settled in a whimsical world of halfmechanised thingamabobs and headstrong puppets.
Built from hard rubbish or op-shop treasures, the set is a
celebration of the capricious: household items are
transformed and given new uses and contexts, thus
offering a humorous and surprising new look at things.
Cute puppets get heart-broken and turn into naughty
baddies, a model train creates magic moving shadows,
Elmo loses his fur and wacky contraptions appear: off-beat
rules!
The show will have an educational post-show component,
as well as offering the opportunity to be combined with
different workshops prior to or after the performance.
It can travel with its own technical equipment and can be
performed in all kind of (also remote) venues.

Wind in the Willows
La Boite
Tagline: A fresh new take on a classic tale of adventure and
fun featuring one of Australia’s most loved performers.
Short Synopsis: This is a charming, classic tale of
adventure and discovery, in a brand-new one-man
adaptation - starring Luke Carroll (Play School, Black
Diggers). Kenneth Grahame’s rollicking tale of four
woodland creatures is one of the true enduring classics of
children’s literature and writer/director team Maxine Mellor
and Kat Henry have given it a fresh coat of paint. Join
Ratty, Mole, Badger and the incorrigible Mr. Toad on their
journeys, trials and misadventures around the river, the
Wild Woods and beyond. Featuring a magical set with
plenty of surprises throughout, and playful costuming and
props,
The Wind in the Willows will take badgers (small and large)
on a heartfelt and humorous adventure that explores
humanity, time and the value of friendship these summer
school holidays. For children aged 4 - 12 and anyone who

Boredom Protection Policy
Rod Quantock
Tagline: Political Comedy by Australia’s “National Treasure”
Rod Quantock
Short Synopsis: Rod Quantock's stand-up comedy show
"Boredom Protection Policy" debuted in 2002 at Trades
Hall Melbourne to critical and popular acclaim. The 75
minute show (or 120 mins with an interval) is a solo show
about contemporary politics and society from Australia’s
longest serving comedian Rod Quantock. In this
incarantion, Rod revisits the issues that dominated self and
scoeity thirteen years ago and applies a 2015 lens. His
passion hasn’t waned a bit.
Short Review:
The Age, August 5 2002, Reviewer: Helen Thomson
“Of course, Rod Quantock and his audiences are anything
but bored by our border protection policy… His subjects are
many: Andrew Bolt, the World Economic Forum, George
Bush and his Axis of Evil, Warracknabeal's passionfruit
sponges, tram conductors and, of course, Tampa,
Woomera, Philip Ruddock and, saved for a wonderfully
comic act of revenge at the end, John
Howard…Occasionally brilliant observations only whet our
appetite for more, like the description of Ruddock's
"cryogenic charm". So he sends us off at interval, having
laughed mightily for nearly an hour but without a clue
where it might all be leading. In the second half, however,
he reveals a clever thread of connectedness in all the
muddle… Once again, Quantock delivers telling blows to
the right with disarming humour, cunningly disguised
intelligence and idiosyncratic charm.”

Boredom Protection Policy
Rod Quantock
Marketing Selling Points:
• Forty seven years on the stage
• A frequently described “national treasure”
• Accolades as long as his patience with his home
country is short
Key Audience and Marketing Notes:
Rod Quantock has a committed and loyal niche following of
people who are interested in politics, society and the
environment and, indeed, anyone who likes smart and
funny comedy. Despite stereotypes to the contrary, there is
an enormous audience of people who fit into those
categories in rural Australia. Issues like climate change,
refugee resettlement and reconciliation (to name a few of
Rod's favourites) are not theoretical considerations for
rural Australians - they represent lived experience. Rod
speaks to these issues.
Besides, whether people remember him from his "Captain
Snooze" days or just want to check out the "funny old
Pinko-Commie", when Rod arrives in town, audiences
come. Rod also gives very good press which makes him a
publicist’s dream.
Rod’s age makes him attractive to the 40+ demographic,
but his contemporary, cutting and anti-establishment
politics appeal to younger generations.
Marketing Package Included:
High res Images and press quotes are available and ready

pathological hoarder. How long can you hold onto
something, and to what end?
Short Synopsis: Faced with her own morality and
armed with a brave face, Elise welcomes the
volunteers to help pack down her hoard. As her world
shifts beneath her, life-defining moments are animated
with magical realism and memories take on new
meanings in her final stages of life.
Exploring themes of grief, guilt, gender-equality and
happiness, My Life in Boxes unfolds between the past
and the present, the ground and the air, in a unique

Company History and Background:
Gravity Dolls is a collaboration between Tim Rutty and
Tarah Carey. The pair was first introduced in 2012
when a mutual work and study place brought them
together. After developing respect and appreciation for
each other’s work, the pair investigated the possibility
of collaborating to blend their passions for theatre and
circus. This passion sparked a vision to create stories
that encompass the entire performance space,
challenging the laws of gravity and invoking a sense of
magical realism in their play, and thus, the name
Gravity Dolls was born.

Waking Up Dead
HeLD Productions
Tagline: How do you grieve for someone you shared a life
with, when that life was a lie?
Short Synopsis: Waking Up Dead explores the story of an
ordinary woman whose husband disappears and is then
found to have been murdered. Through the investigation of
his death, it becomes clear that he led an elaborate secret
life.
Following such shocking events, how does the woman go
on with her life? If so much of her life and identity was built
on secrets and half-truths, how does she know who she is?
With the use of a giant drawing-board, in a beautifully
rendered, intimate atmosphere, the woman recreates key
memories of her lost relationship, grappling with the
complex nature of love, identity and betrayal.
Short Review: ‘…an organic work that has been launched
with integrity by three consummate talented women for a
thinking audience. Beautiful acting and clever direction and
an extremely interesting story all come together strongly.’

Marketing Package Included:
3.5 minute video, Publicity Images, Flyer,

Community engagement activities:
Waking Up Dead is extremely flexible. It has two formats,
one large and one small, and thus can be performed in
traditional black box/studio theatres, in galleries, or in
other medium-sized or small spaces for example libraries,
halls, stately homes and also private homes.
We believe this offers an exciting possibility for the work to
go out into the community in new and interesting spaces
which makes the work very accessible and encourages
engagement with the work and with theatre in general.

The Ballad of Backbone Joe
The Suitcase Royale
Tagline: Junkyard theatre comedy
Short Synopsis: Bringing a suitcase full of Junkyard
theatre, visual trickery, dark humour and rag’n’bone
live music. The Ballad of Backbone Joe tells a
hilariously daft and gruesome tale of a murder set in a
small country town, in their unique, comedic, Mighty
Boosh-esque style.
Undefeated bare-knuckle boxer Backbone Joe has a
right hook “as quick as a spun tea-bag” but repeated
blows to the head have left him a bit slow to process
little details. Like, did he really kill his wife by throwing
her off a bridge? Abattoir owner and fight promoter
Messy Dimes Dan is only too happy to fill in the blanks.
Can Detective Von Trapp ease poor Joe's troubled
mind?
When they are not performing, operating their own
lights and triggering primitive visual effects, the actors
morph into musicians, pick up drums, guitar and
double bass and rattle off foot-stompin' street blues
from side of stage.
“Wallace and Grommet meet David Lynch, five
stars.” Montreal Gazette
“like an inspired collaboration between Nick Cave and
the League Of Gentlemen” The Guardian
“Every once in a while a show has the power to beguile
its audience with the sheer breadth of its originality.
They are superb, four stars.” The Scotsman

Slapdash Galaxy
Bunk Puppets
Tagline: Shadow puppets in space!
Short Synopsis: Slapdash Galaxy is the tale of Sam and
Junior: two brothers who flee their barren planet, and
embark on an epic journey across the galaxy. Using
the contents of your cleaning closet, the award winning
Bunk Puppets creates a unique shadow puppet
universe made from bits of rubbish, old toys and
household objects. The shadow puppetry is performed
in front of the screen, so the audience gets to watch
the transformation from household objects into
shadow silhouette characters. A delicious theatrical
journey full of imagination, odd-ball aliens and riveting
D.I.Y. special effects made. Come play in the dark!
Short Review: “Bunk Puppets brand of shadow
puppetry and storytelling is wonderfully impressive,
insanely inventive, madly loveable, and has the power
to transform an audience of mostly adults into
maniacally giggling children. For just under an hour,
you enter a magical realm where a cluttered stage full
of household items and puppets comes to life to tell
the story of ‘two brothers on a trip across the stars’ as
they flee their war-torn planet in search of a new home,
accompanied by special effects and epic soundtrack.”

the way in which the company gradually claims
ownership of a piece of the past that, before this show,
had slipped from memory.” – John McCullum, The

The Witches
Griffin Theatre Company
Tagline: The Witches By Roald Dahl based on the stage
play by David Wood
Short Synopsis: Brave boys and girls are in for a wicked
and wonderful time with this bubbling concoction,
based on David Wood’s adaptation of the Roald Dahl
classic.
When one little boy unwittingly stumbles into the
annual meeting of witches, he hears their nasty plan to
get rid of all the children in the world – by turning them
into mice! It’s going to take smarts and sneakiness to
stop them and not get squished in the process.
Think you can outwit a witch and outrun a mouse?
Then grab a seat in the front row for The Witches, as a
mind-boggling and madcap one-man show.
Short Review: “…really funny… I recommend this show
to Roald Dahl fans, and anyone over 5 years old.
..Older kids will love it.”

Town Folk
Damian Callinan
Short Description:
Town Folk tears up the Town Planners blueprints and
gets under the foundations to find out ‘who’ are the
bricks and mortar that make up your town. Comedian
Damian Callinan comes to town with film-maker John
Cherry to capture local identities on camera, work the
brave ones into the show and create a moving tapestry
from the human fabric of your community.
Picture - Gary from the grain silo changing jobs with
Gwen for the Tourist Info Centre; local Prep kids
discussing what they would change of they were the
Mayor; the amateur drama group making an advert for
the town or 87year old Nancy talking through all the
events she’s been to at the Town Hall.
With film and stills combined with live segments and
audience interaction the show will create more town
pride than a Category 2 Tidy Town Award.

TRACKSUIT
Rachel Leary
Tagline: A comedic exposé of Australia’s most
controversial clothing item.
Short Synopsis: Tracksuit. Trackie. Trackie Dacks.
Part homage, part trackiepedia, the show follows the
tracksuit through time from Olympic glory to Saturday
afternoon lawn mowing, gangster symbol and ‘I
wouldn’t be seen wearing one outside the house’. It
asks: ‘Can we celebrate our most comfy daks’, ‘Who
loves trackies, who hates them and why?’
‘Tracksuit’ is currently in the later stages of
development. It will undergo further development in
mid-2015 and will be tour ready by the end of 2015.
Audience Feedback:
‘I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your show...
really, it was great. I am in such a good mood this
morning. The show made me feel good!
Brilliant show! Still buzzing in my head about it.
‘Rachel Leary - you’ve done it again!
‘It explores the way we present ourselves to the world
and our concern about what other people think of us
and it got me thinking about that for days.’

Company History and Background:
Rachel Leary is an independent theatre maker,
character comedian, performer and writer. Her solo
show 'Everything Must Go' premiered at La Mama
Theatre in 2011. In April 2013 the show toured to thirty
regional Victorian venues. In April/May 2015 it will
tour for 7 weeks in Victoria and in QLD. Her new work,
‘Tracksuit’ was presented as part of La Mama’s
Explorations program in October 2014.
As a theatre maker Rachel has an interest in objects
that have been, and are, a part of our everyday lives
and our relationship to these things. Her work seeks to
find the remarkable in the apparently unremarkable, to
celebrate and to give voice to that which is considered
‘ordinary’.
Her writing has appeared in publications such as:
Island, Southerly and Forty Degrees South Short Story
Anthology. She has won awards in several literary
competitions and was commended in The Age Short
Story Competition 2011. In 2014 she received an

Intimacy
Ranters Theatre
Short Synopsis: Based on real life encounters with
strangers on a Melbourne street, Intimacy gives a
powerful and complex view of how simple interactions
can generate immense depth of human insight. How
much of ourselves are we prepared to show? Why is it
sometimes easier to be honest with a total stranger
than with someone we know? Is this really honesty or
just another performance? Through a series of intimate
and diverse conversations, Intimacy gives a candid and
sometimes disquieting portrait of contemporary life
where personal anxieties are never far from the
surface.
