Associate Lighting Designer
Ryan’s most recent collaboration with lighting designer
Howell Binkley was the much acclaimed New York production
of John Guare’s Landscape of the Body at the Signature
Theatre. He also was the Associate to Binkley on both the
Broadway and Las Vegas productions of Avenue Q, I Am My
Own Wife at the Cleveland Playhouse, which went on to play
the Coconut Grove and the Parker Playhouses, and Camille
Claudel at the Goodspeed Opera House. He has designed
extensively in the dance world for: Hubbard Street Dance,
Chicago; Hubbard Street 2, Cedar Lake Ensemble, Cedar
Lake 2, Gus Giordano Jazz Dance, Chicago; Luna Negra
Dance Theatre and the Nike Rockstar Workout at the Dia
Gallery with Jamie King. Further designs have been seen at
Bristol Riverside Theatre, NYU/Playwrights Horizons, Sonnet
Repertory Co, Westbeth Theatre Center and in David
Straussman’s Dummy. Ryan is a graduate of the North
Carolina School of the Arts School of Design and Production.

Television includes: Doctor Who
and the long-suffering Malcolm for
Vicks Sinex. Also, The Secret Life
of Toys, Alice in Wonderland,
Mopatop’s Shop, Combat Sheep,
Five Minutes More and the
Bafta Award-winning Roger and the
Rottentrolls and Ripley and Scuff.
He created characters and wrote for
the children’s programme Pipkins
and produced/directed two series
of Heggerty Haggerty. He was
principal performer on Spitting Image. Film includes: Spy
Story, Labyrinth, Little Shop of Horrors, The Muppet Christmas
Carol, The Muppet Treasure Island, Lost in Space and The
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. He voiced Captain Black and
Doctor Gold in Gerry Anderson’s New Captain Scarlet. He
assisted on the setting up of the international versions of
Sesame Street, Spitting Image and The Muppet Show. He
was Animation Director for Jim Henson’s Creature Shop on
the musical Doctor Dolittle and directed Louise Gold in her
one-woman show Louise Gold...by Appointment, Take Two
(Jermyn Street Theatre) and, with Richard Lewis, Peppa Pig’s
Party and Peppa Pig’s Treasure Hunt, currently touring the UK.
