2009 Junior National Event Results Sacramento, California welcomed AIJCA members from far and wide. Although it may have been the first time to California for many, the group blended together quickly and headed straight for the show ring. Monday’s opening ceremonies got the crowd jazzed up and ready for the week’s activities. Motivational leaders and professional fitters brought on a great deal of experience and expertise to the Junior National Conference leaving each junior with something special to try inside and outside of the competition arena. Each participant was given the chance to sample the various fruits and foods from California ranging from artichokes to fresh grown peaches. As the sun set over the California Expo Center, trailers were loaded with awards and show-stopping show animals. The AIJCA would like to congratulate each and every exhibitor for a job well done! Dedicatees and Honorees 2009 Junior National Show Dedicatee Keystone Cattle Services was established by Cliff and Lynn Orley in April 1977. Located in Lebanon, PA, it is a multi-faceted purebred beef cattle service enterprise. Lynn Orley is a native of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where she grew up involved in the family cattle business. From her commercial cattle roots, she progressed into successfully fitting and showing steers and purebred heifers on a state and regional level. Cliff Orley is a native of Ohio and a graduate of the Ohio State University. While attending O.S.U., Cliff served as the assistant coach for the O.S.U. Collegiate Livestock Judging Team. Upon graduation, Cliff accepted a Animal Science teaching position at the University of Kentucky, as well as coaching the U.K. Livestock Judging Team. When Cliff decided to pursue graduate study, he chose Penn State University and served as the assistant coach of the Penn State Livestock Judging Team. Cliff’s passion for purebred cattle production soon drew him from academia into the private sector. He and Lynn took the management reins at Gran-Del Farms, in Crestwood, KY and proceeded to win the coveted Charolais National Challenge Trophy (National Premier Exhibitor Award) not once, but three times. After a successful management career, Cliff and Lynn decided to offer their fitting/showing services to multiple breeds. From the start, their criteria has been high quality, competitive cattle no matter the breed. Since it’s conception, Keystone Cattle Services has bred, Cliff Orley recieves the 2009 Conference Honoree award from Allison Jones, Miss Charolais USA. flushed, cared for, fit and shown numerous champions in the Angus, Charolais, Chianina, Gelbvieh, Hereford, Maine-Anjou, Simmental and Shorthorn breeds. Cliff has judged numerous livestock shows on regional, state, national and international levels. 2009 Junior National Conference Honorees Greg and Brenda Hubert, Oakley, Kan., are widely recognized in the Charolais industry for their sale management and consulting expertise. The two have been together since high school and were married in 1974. Just over ten years later, together they established Hubert Cattle Sales, managing their first sale at the Kansas Beef Expo on March 14, 1986. During the first year, they managed and consulted 13 other sales including M&M Charolais, Hubert Charolais Ranch, Bauman Ranch, Lindskov-Thiel Ranch, LK Ranch, Page Charolais Farms, Copeland Farms, Bayvue Farms and the Ferris Ranch. The new found success continued to develop from the first year growing to 17 sales in the second year, and later maturing to the current 25-30 sales per year. Hubert Cattle Sales has managed the last five National Charolais Sales, in which 108 lots have averaged $10,720 as well as six additional national sales from 1992-1997. Greg showed his first Charolaiscross steer in 1962. After graduating from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, he started working on his father’s Charolais ranch. In the early 1980’s, Greg also served on the AICA Board of Directors as well as the AICA Land & Building Committee during the move from Houston, Texas to Kansas City, Mo.
