Trillium Dell Timberworks, in
conjunction with Crystal River
Construction & Timber Framing,
designed and installed timber
elements to a 82’ x 50’ log worship
center for the Native American
Fellowship in East Peoria, Illinois.
Harvested timbers, including mixed
oak, walnut and sassafrass from
the church’s property were
trucked to our shop for milling and
planing. Our crew assisted Kent
Streitmatter, owner of Crystal
River, with the on site cutting and
raising of front and rear porches.

Turning your ideas into reality - the Dietrich’s 3D CAD software
Ever wonder how hand drawn floor
plans or an architectural schematic
might turn into your finished timber
frame? At Trillium Dell Timberworks, the
transition is made by utilizing a talented
design staff and using specialized
Building Information Model (BIM)
software called Dietrich’s. Dietrich's
allows you to create a full 3-D building
model that contains not only floor plans
and timber elements, material lists, and
the other take-offs required, but also
the very shop drawings and joinery
details required to accurately cut the
timbers, all in one spot. The model even
integrates easily with other drafting and
structural engineering softwares,
allowing for a single shared source of
information between everyone
involved. In short, Trillium Dell employs
the best components to ensure an
efficient transition from paper to
timber.

What’s in a Name?
Trillium Dell Timberworks took its
name from the forest flower that
blooms every spring. Trillium is a
genus of about 40-50 species of
perennial flowering plants native to
North America, our local bloom is of
the dark red variety. Sometimes called
"Wake Robin" because they appear
about the same time as Robins return
from their winter migration, trillium
have three petals, sepals and green
leaves.
Featured Trillium Dell Timberworks Employee ~ Brandee Pickle-Stowe
Many people have come to learn the
friendly voice on the end of the line at
Trillium Dell Timberworks. Brandee
Pickle-Stowe, Office Manager for
TDTW, has been with the us since
2002. Initially working in our shop,
Brandee learned first hand the
precision crafting involved with
Trillium Dell timber frames. We soon
realized Brandee’s organizational
strengths and promoted her to Office
Manager. In her role, Brandee not only
answers phones, but helps customers
with many of the questions involved in
planning for and purchasing a timber
frame. In addition to her managerial
strengths, Brandee has an artistic eye
for home design and floor plan layout.
Look for Brandee at timber frame
home shows and other Trillium Dell
events; she’ll be sure your project
receives the attention to detail and
follow-through it deserves.

University of Illinois Beef Barn Dismantle ~ Champaign, Illinois
Trillium Dell Timberworks and several
talented subcontractors spent much
of May and June dismantling the
historic University of Illinois Beef
Barn, pictured above. Purchased by
the Piatt County Museum, this barn
will be re-erected to serve as a
museum
in
Monticello,
IL.
(see: www.piattmuseum.org).
In the photo at the right our expert
dismantlers are using a specially
designed “lifting plate” to remove
sections of the floor at the Beef Barn.
The Beef Barn flooring was
constructed with Douglas Fir 2 x 4’s
laid on edge and gang nailed together.
The floor was removed in manageable
sections, which had been cut with a
specialty demolition blade. The
bottom photo shows the crew loading
sections of the barn in preparation for
semis to haul it to storage. The barn
will be reassembled using the same
method.

building is going

Integrating a Timber Frame with Your “Not So Big House” Design
What is the overall look and
feel you want to achieve with
your finished home? People
are often drawn to the
expanse that timber frames
offer, however its important
not to lose ourselves in all of
that space.
As discussed by architect Sarah
Susanka in her “Not So Big
House” series, people crave
psychologically comforting
spaces. Pick up any one of
Sarah’s books, you’ll notice a
recurring theme: the importance
of creating a home that
expresses your “values and
personalities...filled with special
details and designed to
accommodate (your) lifestyles.”
Susanka advises homeowners to
design their floor plans with
quality versus quantity in mind,
noting that many homebuilders
seek a design that incorporates
beauty and substance, and at the
same time utilizes sustainable
building materials and
techniques.

Susanka’s books offer us
refreshing input on creating a
sense of comfort in our homes,
often in a smaller and more
useable floor plan than
originally anticipated.
