Having been totally refurbished in 2007, it offers the opportunity to see the talented people of Gloucestershire at their best. If you have not visited us before, for your information, the lounge bar is open before and during the interval of the show; the Green Room bar is open before, in the interval and after the show; ice cream will usually be sold in the auditorium during the interval. The Playhouse, which first opened its doors in 1945, is a registered charity and we have a responsibility to repair and maintain the complex. Aside from a grant of £5,700 from the borough council we are totally self-funding and are always looking for financial and practical support. Future projects will include redecorating the facade of the building and improving the facilities throughout the rest of the complex. There are a variety of ways in which you may wish to be involved in some form or other, whether this is on stage, behind the scenes, front of house or as a supporter via our Partner, Friend or Membership schemes. For further information, please feel free to take one of our brochures, talk to one of our front of house volunteers or contact me personally through the box office. But right now, I would urge you to sit back and enjoy your time with us. John Roberts Chairman The Playhouse Theatre Registered Charity no.1088889 PARTNERS IN THE PLAYHOUSE T he Partners in the Playhouse Scheme offers our valued patrons a chance to help keep this lovely theatre alive while getting closer to the life of the theatre and the people who work in it. He appeared as Bernardo in West Side Story for another society before being ‘discovered’ by CODS while serving as a waiter at a CODS private party. He went on to appear in 84 Charing Cross Road and has been involved with – or in – every CODS' show since! The highlights for Stephen are Danny Champion Of The World, Calendar Girls, Gypsy and, of course, Beauty And The Beast. Stephen says “I've always loved directing and have been waiting for the right project to come along; I love Avenue Q deeply and knew that I had to do it. I love the show for its heart and integrity, the riskier stuff is fun but the moments I love most are the true to life stories and its ability to pull on your heart strings. This is my first directing project since college”. Stephen's right hand on the directing couch has been Anne Cambridge. Anne says she has loved working with such a dedicated and talented team. ••••• Vocal Coach Beverley Whitaker This is Beverley's 4th time as Musical Director/Vocal Coach for CODS, working on Kiss Me Kate, Billy and Chorus Line, but never before has she had the joy (or fun) of teaching puppets how to sing! Beverley started as a classically trained singer and has performed in many diverse roles from Mabel in Pirates of Penzance to the eccentric Wardrobe in Disney’s Beauty And The Beast. She is extremely proud of the cast of Avenue Q and is looking forward to sitting back and watching, although if you look carefully you may see her quietly conducting from her theatre chair. ••••• Choreographer Sophie Constantine Sophie trained in ballet, tap and modern dance throughout her childhood and went on to study a contemporary dance degree at Middlesex University. Sophie has performed many times as a professional dancer, won national awards and even had a cheeky appearance on Blue Peter. She went on to complete her PGCE and has now been a dance & drama teacher for over 10 years. Avenue Q is Sophie’s debut production choreographing for CODS. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Act 1 • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Scene 1 – Intro/Graduation/On the Avenue The Avenue Q Theme The Company Opening Princeton, Brian, Kate, Rod, Nicky, (What Do You Do With a BA in English/It Sucks To Be Me) Gary Coleman, Christmas Eve Scene 2 – Nicky and Rod’s Apartment If You Were Gay Nicky, Rod Scene 3 – Princeton’s Apartment Purpose Princeton Purpose Playoff Moving Boxes Scene 4 – On the Avenue Everyone’s A Little Bit Racist Princeton, Kate, Gary, Brian, Christmas Eve Scene 4a – Continuous Scene 5 – Kate’s Apartment/On the Avenue The Internet Is For Porn Trekkie, Kate, Brian, Gary, Rod, Princeton Scene 6 – On the Avenue Scene 7 – Kate’s Apartment A Mix Tape Kate, Princeton Scene 8 – Around the Clock Club I’m Not Wearing Underwear Today Brian Special Lucy Scene 9 – Kate’s Apartment/Entire Street You Can Be As Loud As The Hell You Want Gary, Kate, Princeton, Bad Idea Bears, Brian, (When You’re Makin’ Love) Christmas Eve, Trekkie Scene 10 – Nicky and Rod’s Apartment/Kate’s Apartment Fantasies Come True Rod, Kate, Princeton Scene 11 – Kate’s Apartment Scene 12 – On the Avenue (The Wedding) My Girlfriend, Who Lives In Canada Rod There’s A Fine, Fine Line Kate • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Act 2 • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Scene 1 – Princeton’s Apartment/New York City Entr’acte Princeton There Is Life Outside Your Apartment Christmas Eve, Gary, Brian, Trekkie, Lucy, Nicky, Princeton and the Company Life Outside Playoff Christmas Eve, Gary, Brian, Trekkie, Lucy, Nicky, Princeton and the Company Scene 2 – On the Avenue The More You Ruv Someone Christmas Eve, Kate Scene 3 – Kate’s Apartment Scene 4 – Princeton’s Apartment Scene 5 – The Avenue Schadenfreude Gary, Nicky Scene 6 – Empire State Building/Street Corner Scene 7 – The Hospital Scene 8 – On the Avenue Scene 9 – Empire State Building/A Corner/The Hospital I Wish I Could Go Back To College Kate, Nicky, Princeton Scene 10 – On Avenue The Money Song Princeton, Nicky, Gary, Christmas Eve, Brian The Money Song (Reprise) Trekkie, Gary, Princeton, Nicky, Christmas Eve, Brian Scene 11 – On the the Avenue There’s A Fine, Fine Line (Reprise) Kate, Princeton BA In English (Reprise) New Kid For Now The Company Prin Kate M on ceton ste r Michael Fay ky Nic Ro d Joy-Amy Wigman Matthew Crumpton kkie Tre Monster Nick Tobias Jamie Dewick Mrs Th i stle y Luc t twa ky Ne w c Ric er om Elizabeth Cox T he B ad Bears Idea Amy-Claire MULCAHY Matthew Cooke Joanne Alexander Christmas Eve David Morris William K V Browne Brian Gary Coleman Avenue Q – The Cast List Puppet characters Princeton, a fresh faced kid just out of college Michael Fay Kate Monster, a kindergarten teacher, a bit older than Princeton Joy-Amy Wigman Nicky, a bit of a slacker who lives with . . . I've had a lot of time to sit and think and find my purpose. (Princeton) I've visited some of the amazing schools you have here. I feel really inspired now to follow my dream of opening a school for monsters. (Kate Monster) We love the clock in Regent Arcade. When it strikes on the hour we like to dance underneath it and burst the bubbles. We also love running up and down the escalators shouting 'Yay!' (The Bad Idea Bears) Let me see, there's Subtone, Copa, All Bar One. I've just loved the nightlife and hanging out with cute, preppy, Cheltenham guys. (Lucy) I was worried about what people would think of me and whether I would enjoy life in an English spa town. Everyone has been so friendly and welcomed me with open arms. I've met likeminded people and feel loved. (Rod) CODS' Music & Memories Evening A ll members – past, present and future – are invited to join us for a fun social evening on Saturday 19th October. This is an opportunity for the CODS community to get together and share their experiences of CODS. There will be wine, nibbles and entertainment. During the evening the Committee will also be presenting some of its ideas for the Society’s future. We really want you to get involved with your society so please put the date in your diary and come along. If you could drop Lynsey a quick email at [email protected] to let us know that you are coming that would be great. You will be guaranteed a warm welcome. The Society has a membership of over 100, with an active core at any one time of around 60 members. Today, the Society performs at both the Everyman & Playhouse theatres, producing two musicals and one play each year. We are always on the lookout for new members to join our ranks in every and any capacity. Onstage and backstage you can be assured of a warm welcome and bags of fun. Please feel free to speak to one of our Front of House volunteers this evening or contact our Chairman, Jonathan Dyer – [email protected] or visit our website at: www.codsonline.co.uk. National Operatic & Dramatic Association CODS is affiliated to the National Operatic & Dramatic Association (NODA), which was formed in 1899 by amateur societies in the north-west of England for the purpose of bringing together members of amateur operatic and dramatic groups for their mutual assistance and combined benefit. Each year the Association holds national and regional conferences, together with competitions for poster and programme design. It runs a Summer School, with courses ranging from makeup design to stage management, giving NODA members the opportunity to improve their craft. The Association also awards long service medals to those members who have given active and unpaid service over many years. Today, the Association has around 2300 affiliated societies and over 2500 individual members throughout the UK and Northern Ireland. It is the only organisation of its kind devoted exclusively to the amateur stage and is entirely self-supporting.
